I hope they make a movie about him someday. He was the first black anchorman to do a nationwide broadcast.

Two things I would like to know about that: 1. Who do you think could play Max Robinson? 2. Would they recreate the ABC News Chicago bureau (as it was then) for that film (as presented in this 1978 News Brief)?

@3bhui They were called...Teletype machines. And there were actual times where the teletype machines were behind the news anchor. So they sometimes couldn't be helped but to be heard over the mics. My Dad had several sitting behind him when he worked for a local TV station..he said it drove him nuts cause it never stopped ticking.

@tarmale Typewriters? That's what one would think but they were actually teletype machines. That was basically "the wire" and fastest news could travel. Kind of a prehistoric Internet. The Announcers would use the terms after someone whispered in their ear: "this just in" or "breaking now." "I've just been made aware of.."

Looks like Max is pretty angry after seeing himself in the upper box from the monitor he must've been glancing at. It's like he was about to go off on someone after the newsbrief was over. Though, barely remembering WNT 3 anchor format on my own, it does fascinate me how ABC did this for 5 years and was very successful. I can't get over why ABC went and dropped this format whether Frank Reynolds would've died or not.
