For ABC's 1966-67 season, Thursday night was "Ladies' Night," with "Bewitched," "Love on a Rooftop," and "That Girl" airing back-to-back. Elizabeth Montgomery, Judy Carne, and Marlo Thomas filmed this cute promo for it on the "Bewitched" livingroom set. From www.harpiesbiza...

When ABC talked about its "Second Season" in the mid-'60s, they meant mid-season replacements and time changes. These changes in the Thursday night schedule began in January 1967, so this promo originally aired during the last week of Decemeber 1966. The announcer asking about "changes" was veteran actor Gerald Mohr, who delivered voice-overs for ABC promos at the time.

I've never heard that about Elizabeth, but she died young and painfully so she suffered hardships as well. I like how for Ladies Night back then it was meant to be for the whole family, as Liz puts it here. If only things were still so warm!

DesiluTrek, sorry to inform you that we were both wrong. :P Yes, the first season of Star Trek did air 29 episodes on Thursday. In Seasons Two and Three, NBC aired ALL episodes (except for the final episode "Turnabout Intruder," #79, which aired on Tuesday, 6/3/1969) from #30 to #78 aired on FRIDAY. 9/15/1967- 3/14/1969. Look THAT up in your Funk and Wagnall's and smoke it. ;-{)

@fgldnglbs, I suspect because "Love on a Rooftop" only aired for one season there weren't enough episodes for it to be sold into syndication, which is why, other than those who saw it during its network run in 1966-67, few people have ever seen it.

@cuteycindyhoney Very short-lived, cute sitcom about newlyweds. Peter Duel (before he went on to greater fame in Alias Smith and Jones and then killed himself a year later) played the husband to Judy Carne. I barely remember it at all, would love to see some clips of it though.

There's also Antenna TV that shows retro classic like MeTV. They are not cable networks in the true sense. They're programming available to local stations. Most are on the new digital subchannels .2, .3 etc. If there is an affiliate in your area your cable carries it like any other local channel.

As other posts have likely addressed here, the "Second Season" was for ABC's January programming changes in 1967, not for Love on a Rooftop. ABC had originated the "Second Season" in January 1966 as a way to promote the replacements of its many flops back then. ABC had one of its biggest "Second Season" hits ever in January 1966 with Batman, which was a huge cult hit for ABC then but flamed out quickly and was cancelled just over two years later in March 1968.

Mr. Immortal, the point I had to correct from your original posting calling me "wrong" was that Star Trek aired only on Fridays, as if it never aired opposite Bewitched. My original point, as it related to this video, was that Trek was on at the same time as Bewitched, Thursdays at 8:30 ET in this 1966-67 season. Trek's 2nd season was Fridays at 8:30 and its 3rd was Fridays at 10. I can skip my Funk & Wagnall's and verify it in my vintage '66-67 TV Guides, plus many other Trek references.

@arfies I am soooo late in replying to your comment here, but I have to say I completely agree--and I'm (just) old enough to remember when these shows were still in original run. I miss this kind of programming and I'm so disappointed especially in TV Land, which began with such promise. TV Land's promo launch had me swooning--a full night of Room 222, The FBI, I Spy, Mannix, Love American Style--even My Mother The Car (a show that as a kid I found too silly for words). What the heck happened??!

BTW, all the Rosie the Riveters never wore their work clothes on the street. You couldn't get stockings during WWII. My mom told me she had to put make-up on her legs to create the effect. Her date, who showed up wearing white pants, picked mom up to take her dancing. Mom still gets embarrassed telling the story how his pants were ruined, while dancing at the night club he took her to, from her faux stockings. ;-{)

Another (unlikely) reason for "Star Trek"s not being canceled early on, despite mediocre ratings, was Lucille Ball, who owned Desilu, which produced the show, and was, according to many sources, savvy enough to see the show's potential, if not during its network run, then certainly in syndication (and it was indeed in syndication that "Star Trek" finally exploded into the phenomenon it became). Ball and Desilu had considerable clout back then, and that certainly helped.

Well, color transmission came in during the 1965-66 season. It wasn't new technology. I remember watching color tv in 1960 on my grandfather's 1954 RCA. Color tv's were very expensive and not popular in the 1950's.

Wasn't Batman, with Adam West, on at 7:30? I remember watching Batman when I was five years old and listening to announcements for That Girl and Bewitched over the closing credits. Season ending rankings per Nielsen: Bewitched was # 7, ABC's highest rated sitcom and show by far; That Girl was # 56, but ABC had faith in the show and renewed it despite the ranking below some shows that were canceled; and Love on a Rooftop ranked # 68 and was canceled with a 26 share (usually a show had to have a 30 share to be renewed at that time). F Troop, which was ABC's second highest rated comedy behind Bewitched (and 8th highest rated show overall) at # 40 out of the 113 shows for the season, was discontinued by its studio, Warner Brothers, due to a power struggle (VP Ben Kalmenson cited the show being $3,000 over budget!) despite a 31.3 share. ABC wanted it back for 1967-68. The other ABC entry on Thursdays in 66-67, Batman, was # 37 with a 33 share and was renewed (with the # 58 Wed. Batman canceled). All rankings are in Television Magazine, Vol 24, Number 8.

Not really, as three of her four husbands were older than she was, two of them especially so (Gig Young: 20 years her senior; William Asher: 12 years). She was older than Robert Foxworth by 8 years, but there comes a point in life where age difference doesn't really matter as much as it would have earlier.

that's cool ... Star Trek might not have even survived one season except for being a great show for helping NBC's parent company RCA sell color TVs. I believe it never finished higher than 56th in the overall Nielsen ratings. It was only after Trek was cancelled that NBC discovered how well it did in the ideal 18-34 demographic.

That doesn't really explain why fashion was big in the '20s, '30s, and '50s though. As far as '40s glamour goes, I thought they had to conserve fabric for the war effort, the "military shoulders" look was in for women, and many ads were for women to dress in "Rosie the Riveter"-type overalls and/or WAC/WAVE/USO outfits, but always with lipstick.
