Smokey Robibson is a singer, writer, and record producer. He led the Miracles from 1955-1972 with his amazing vocals producing hit after hit. I found Smokey's reaction from an LA Times article: "And what does Smokey--who plays the Celebrity Theatre tonight--think about “When Smokey Sings”? “Well, of course, that’s a form of flattery, and I really appreciate it,” Robinson said this week from Sacramento before a performance. “Earlier this year, I was in Europe when the song first came out, and I went on a TV show in Holland. It turns out the producer had booked them on the show too but didn’t tell either one of us that the other was going to be there. He sort of threw us together, and it was a great meeting, man. They’re nice guys, we enjoyed each other and, like I said, I really appreciate their writing the song.”

I like the way ABC have the "Tears Of A Clown" riff in the background. In 1982 I had gone and bought The Lexicon Of Love album by ABC. Having played it and enjoyed it, I had asked a local DJ to play either The Look Of Love or Tears Are Not Enough" by ABC, He said "Who?". Next week he had caught up, and was playing ABC songs :). The rest is history.

I like to play ABC's "Be Near Me (Munich Disco Mix)" extended. Had a work friend who would play songs and I try to guess what the song title and band was. He played "When Smokey Sings". I guessed ABC. I asked him if he ever heard Be Near Me. He never heard it. I played it and he liked it. He played it every day. He died of cancer a few years ago. Never got to retire and enjoy retirement and spoil his young grandson full time. He was 62.

The Lexicon of Love is a fantastic album with some well known hits songs. However it's the lesser known tunes l love the most, Many Happy Returns, Show me and favourite of all Date Stamp.
