Smartest thing that young man could have done was to ignore the knocking at the door and quietly go into a back room immediately call 911 and give them your address and ask them if they sent the police to your home . Ask them the name of the officer or officers and have the phone with you in your hand when you go to answer the door but do not have a gun in your hand when you go to the door . You're calling 911 to make sure the person at the door is really a cop and not someone pretending to be one .

If the airman was indeed alone the employee needs to be charged with murder and making a false statement. He put his hand up, its not illegal to answer your door with a gun in your hand. I do it all the time because of so many break-ins and many criminals claim to be police. He never even attempted to point the gun at the officer. He should have commanded him to drop it before he started shooting, inexperienced officers are dangerous. All police should go through basic training like military personnel so they can handle situations better instead of letting their emotions take hold. The officer needs to be held accountable.

Say you got into a dispute with a fellow tenant, you go to their door and they answer holding a gun...you now know this is a behavior pattern and that if you make a fake call to police, he'll likely answer the door the same way. You also know that certain folks are not likely to be given the benefit of a doubt...just saying the caller and apartment worker should be looked into.

Apartment complexes tend to ignore or downplay noise complaints nowadays as extra work. Obviously there have been problems in his neighborhood or he never would have answered the door with a gun. Law enforcement is supposed to be smart. They should called the airmans phone before knocking on the door giving the airman a heads up. It is the responsibility of law enforcement to protect the citizen by taking the risk the person opening the door doesn't shoot.

When someone comes banging on your door like that you don't have to answer right away because it could be someone pretending to be a cop wearing a cop uniform . Smartest thing a person can do is get real quiet go in the back room and quietly call 911 give him your address and ask them if they sent the police to your home and if they say yes ask them the name of the officer they sent and then talk through the door stand back but don't open it and asked the officer to give his name and say that you have the police on the phone and if he gives the name that the police department gave well then you should open the door but without a gun

Our thoughts and prayers go out to U.S. senior airman and his family. The shooting was undoubtedly a homicide. The question is, was it a justifiable homicide? Did the officer feel that his life was in imminent peril at the time of the shooting? The victim had a firearm in his hand at the time of the shooting; but it was pointed down, and apparently not in harm’s way of the officer. In order for it to be a justifiable homicide, resulting in self-defense, there must be ‘means,’ ‘opportunity’ and ‘intent.’ If there was no ‘intent’ on the part of the victim, it could be argued that it was not a justifiable shooting. The victim had the ‘means’ and it could be even argued the ‘opportunity’; but more important, did the airman have the ‘intent’ to shoot the officer as the victim’s weapon was pointed down? All three elements must be present to be a justified shooting. That will be up to a jury of the deputy sheriff’s peers to decide beyond a reasonable doubt. There’s an old saying in law enforcement, “I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six.”

I lost my Aunt 7years ago to Pancreatic Cancer. She was Diagnosed in January and gone in three weeks. I Have never seen someone go from well to dead so quickly. It felt like murder. This man will go on to do amazing things with his angel dad there with him.

Satellite images show days before the strike military vehicles picked up material at that very shopping center. If they were providing materials used in the war then technically it makes it a legitimate target. You can argue the specifics if you want but any and all aid to military fortifications or production are legit targets. Just like you can take out a storage facility or a factory making items used for the war. Its a touchy subject and its not one I would approve of or endorse but I don't make the rules. Tell the UN to change the rules and make it a war crime.
