California license plate numbers are running out!

I remember 5 digit plates, then the move to 6 and 7, so just go to 8 or even 10 -- the have the ability to do stacked super and sub script (the DP plates) so why not do that?

They'll just flip the sequence. They'll go from 9ZZZ999 to 000AAA0 They already did this with this "commercial " pickup truck plates

Yes, I believe that will likely be the next format for the California plates (9ZZZ999 to 001AAA1).

It always irritated me when I had a truck and it was classified as "commercial." They also charge a weight fee for trucks. Not really fair when SUVs are built on the same frames and weigh more.

Years ago. The paint on the license plates weren't lasting very long. They were fading and peeling. It turns out the guy that was taking of the painting of the license plate had finally finished his time in prison and he left. The next prisoner who took over was as good. They eventually fixed the problem.

I live in oregon and thankfully we are still a decade away before we hit 999 ZZZ, but I do occasionally see license plates from Texas and they are running out as well.

GTA V ( a game released in 2013 ) already fixed this problem. Check out the license plates in the game. They have an extra number on the left.

Adding another digit would seem the easiest, but there's little space left. Each digit would need to be smaller. As others have said, easier to flip the format around. Reusing numbers is another option, but fraught with problems, especially for a large state like California.

No wonder my tags are $500 for my 20-year-old vehicle It is absolutely ridiculous how much tags are in California And come on just because I have a little tiny pick up doesn’t mean you need to commercial tag it

I didn't know that license fees in California were based on purchase price. In Illinois, it's $151 a year, no matter what the car costs. Are your plates, $500 a year??

They go by vehicle weight and make and model of the vehicle but yeah my tags are 500 Pretty much any pick up it’s going to be commercial plates and if you have a 1500 2500 3500 it goes up $100 each stage

@@sootyvoo100 In Illinois, if you buy a beat up used car for $1500, you pay $151 a year for a license sticker. If you buy a New $80,000 car, you pay $151 a year for a license sticker.

Doubt it, they'll flip the sequence first. 8 digit plates require smaller digits, making it harder to read by drivers, cops and toll roads.
