Thank you to the first responders everywhere in WNC. This is something that will never leave the minds of those who live in disaster areas and the first responders risked their lives for people stuck in areas that were isolated. None of us thought it could be this bad and so many still do not realize how bad it was. I live 50 miles from here up further in the mountains and it was really bad here also. It was worse the more south you go. Apocolyptic to Biblical. Thank you again to those who were in the storm saving people and to everyone who stepped up to help when we all were not sure where to start.

Someone who doesn't live here can never understand what it was like in those first few days... It looked like the end of the world, the end of hope, the end of everything. Like nothing would ever be good again. The weight on my heart has been almost unbearable. Some days I see nothing but the good, then I'll revert back to seeing nothing but the bad for a few days. It'll be years before our hearts can heal enough for us to be "ok" again. I still see certain things when I close my eyes. Just taking this one day at a time, but I will never, ever, ever, forget.

Daughter of a retired firefighter and paramedic here and Mother of my 🇺🇸Marine. Floridan here and resident of WNC for over 20 years. The whole entire family serves. On the behalf of our first responders and our 🇺🇸 USA Military, thank you so very much for your support and prayers of faith. This is our 9/11 on the stage of the Appalachian Mountains. This is our ground zero. Millions of people have been exposed to radioactive poisoning especially in the Asheville region. There’s a steep price to be paid in people’s bodies years down the road from now. Not to mention, all of first responders and victims going through PTSD. Over 100k lost their homes. Over 20,000 bodies are decaying and not to mention some of the wildlife bodies decaying. Multiple body parts have been found in radom places in the Chimney Rock region. Many innocent people have already died from volunteering because of the radioactive poison and including K-9 units. Furthermore, FEMA has set up camp to host 700 first responders that includes RED TORNADO SHELTERS. FEMA LAND GRAB. GOD IS SO MUCH BIGGER THAN ALL OF THIS. THE GREATER THE STORM, THE GREATER THE BREAKTHROUGH. THE BEST IS YET TO COME IN JESUS. GOD BLESS Y’ALL WITH ACTS 3:21, EPHESIANS 3:20-21. 🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱

So I know how and what happened here (been researching for 15 years because of a random day laying in the sun and watching a plane,). Anyway everything that you said I truly believe I am questioning the radioactive waste because there's other saying it's not true that that's part of a rumor that they want people to believe so that people will leave their lands so that people will walk away or so. I live here in Asheville. I just want to say Thank You to everyone who has helped us. We ain't out of the woods yet, but we're getting there. And we're getting there thanks to all the love, support and hard work everyone has put forth. Thank you to all my neighbors and all the communities up here in WNC. Ya'll have restored my faith in humanity. I have never experienced the deep sense of truly pulling together as a community as I have witnessed here. No one cared where you were from, what religion you were, what color you were, no politics, it was just all of us, together. We didn't have power or water or cell service. It's still wonky. We're showering in chlorinated lake water, driving to the FEMA/Red Cross sites to get drinking water. Winters coming and a lot of folks up in the hills still don't have power. But, we're getting through. God willin and the creek don....you know what I mean.

Very few FEMA is more concerned with illegals housing. A few and I mean a few tiny homes were donated by some tony home companies but when I say few I have yet to here the number pass5😢 though a bombshlter company out of Ashville red dog or something close to that is very interesting being brought in. Why, because sadly they're not going to stop until they get what's in chimney mountain and run these people out. This was no natural storm. As a Floridian it's so heartbreaking every year down here and to watch when other areas go through it it really puts the u kynifffeee through ya. (KZbin censorship got get clever) if you look at the history of the progress from Katrina that's exactly what will happen here as they rebuild and keep taking hits. And it will be decades if not longer to see this area restored or close to what is going to be the design until another one. It's going to be so difficult but God is watching and he will provide. The problem the state refuses to admit they need to put plans on place for these storms thinking they'd never reach these areas until some politician got pay big money to work with the tech companies who what that ore. 😢😢😢@@Turk_2023

So sad for our beautiful mountains and citizens. I hope this event does not get forgotten in these news cycles. And please - we'd like to hear from the governor or some one about MORE help to haul debris in ALL these mountain communities. How is this getting done? Will we ever know the actual count of missing people even? I'd be boots on the ground to help if I could. It is great to see a lot of local heroes and volunteers from all over the country. God bless all who are helping so tremendously and prayers for all those going through recovery and healing their lives. To see devastation at such a magnitude as this, but, at the same time, see love & compassion for total strangers is not something experienced often. Americans are usually sending support to other countries. It’s amazing to see how truly good the majority are & their willingness to help. I’m so proud of everyone’s effort, big & small. It all contributes to the goal. Bad things happen. But it’s those that step-up that make a difference. Seeing the response has impacted the whole country when we really needed it. It’s shown our true strength & reminded people of life’s basic values & appreciation of our fellow citizens. God allows things in life to open our eyes & hearts. Mine are much wider now. It also proves we can take care of things much better than those paid to sit in DC. Honestly, if ‘they’ had done their jobs like they should have, nothing close to the current recovery-level would’ve been achieved. Too much red tape. Now the truth about WHY & what’s gonna be done about it needs to be revealed. Where’s the money to help them? Why aren’t insurance companies paying? Many questions.

The best video I've seen so far, and I've viewed many. But this one really tells the story of our people helping each other and also receiving wonderful help from those who live outside our mountains. The devastation is simply non descriptive. As I heard early on from one of the residents of our great mountains -- "We don't wait for someone else to come help us, we help each other"! And there is no way on this earth that so much would have been achieved by FEMA alone if you had not done it yourselves. God bless each one of you -- and I can see that HE has already!
@TeasLouise

FEMA is there to provide immediate emergency checks, supplies and then the funds for rebuilding of homes and properties- especially when insurance won't come through. Those warehouses and pallets of supplies is FEMA, besides donations by other orgs. They aren't a rescue operation. Rescue is done by the national guard, National and State forest and mountain rescue people (who came all the way from Montana, Oregon, Washington State and California) other registered rescue organizations and all branches of the military. The rebuilding of many roads and dams will be handled by branches of the military, local contractors and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I feel bad for the CA rescue forest operations- they are going back to hellacious fires right now.

We were there for the storm, visiting my daughter and her family who had just moved to Ashville a month before the storm. Luckly, she lived in a home up the side of a hill so we only had to deal with a lot of down trees. The local people immediately started cutting up the trees after the storm let up. Ashville has a strong population and you will get through this.

Happy to say that when I went down to Black Mountain this past weekend with a group of cleanup volunteers, I was pleasantly surprised by how up-and-running most of what I saw was. The shops and eateries downtown were just about all open and doing business. I was told most of the county has power and water back, though some of that water wasn't drinkable. Made it tough to find a good cup of coffee but I did get to enjoy a cherry stout at the Grange.

Yea, it’s been real dry here in our state, too, making it ideal for fires. Woke up this morning to lots of smoke all over our valley area here in Appalachia, enough to make your eyes water and throat burn if one is sensitive to smoke. Some idiots have been intentionally setting fires within the areas, and the wind we’ve had has carried it far ... luckily some of the rain we got here has helped contain a lot of them, but it’s created more smoke.

I have footage that Friday morning too. From Fletcher all the way into downtown Asheville there was no response at all except by the state police. The only video evidence I actually have of APD and Buncombe deputies were two guys standing in front the flood near the mall watching the water go by, presumably with people in it. I never even saw the fire dept. I didn't get into the Black Mountain area. All I can really describe in detail is the non-response by the Asheville city government and both counties. I am so very tired of the media trying to re-write a history that was so traumatizing I will never be able to forget it. I was born and raised in Florida. There was nothing about this response that acceptable. Government officials from the city government all the way to the White House belong on trial. The state police, though, were on all over I-26 dealing with the problem. I can't say enough about them.
@noosphericaltarzan
@noosphericaltarzan 2 ай бұрын
I realize you are taking this personally, and I am sorry, but you need to understand even what you just typed belies an entirely unacceptable response to a hurricane. I get that this is Asheville and the people running this place aren't exactly well-educated or experienced at managing storms, but they could have asked literally anybody who did grow up in such regions for advice. Just about everybody needs to show up BEFORE the storm arrives, not at 5:25 AM the next day. You pre-position resources and personnel. None of that was done. 5:25 AM was TOO LATE. It was too late. And because the federal government abandoned us for four days, American citizens died waiting for rescue that never came. Those who were rescued were mostly rescued by veterans in private helicopters. I should not have had to see what I saw that morning foraging for medical supplies. There was no leadership anywhere. Except state police. Who are mostly veterans and know damned well what this government is.

@@marlenepollitt1340 It is very sad. The lengths that they go to try and make a climate change narrative as they destroy. Many people have been sacrificed.

I didnt appreciate the Bee Tree/North Fork dam false alarm a couple days after the storm, nor did my crew of electrical workers. Biltmore Village got too much press compared to the devastation in Yancey County.

@ I live in one of the hardest hit areas and worked 16 hour shifts for 14 days straight before I was able to assess my own damage and get supplies for my wife and kids. I have dumped my 401k and vacation to try and get our situation figured out.

@ I know, my crew and I were on the receiving end of that radio call. Only 5 minutes later they completely cancelled it and changed which dam was about to fail, and then 5 more minutes later cancelled that alert. We were told the Black Mountain PD Facebook got hacked but never heard any follow up.
