@@johnmourer5747 I live just south of Elk Grove in a 1700 sq ft. house built in 1980 with poor insulation. My highest SMUD bill this year (July) is $233. I contribute this to my 24k BTU mini split I installed instead of using my heat pump for AC. Also, my house is full electric, no gas or propane, so the $233 also covers my cooking, well, and water heater needs. I can only imagine how low my bill would be if my house was properly insulated. If my electric bill is anywhere close to $1k, I would really consider moving.

For comparison, I live in NorCal valley, just as hot as Fresno. 2200sf house. A/C set usually 77 to 80'. Appliances loke everyone else. Also have a 7000btu and a 10000btu wall A/C units. June 15 to July 15 bill was $545. And it was pretty hot, many days 110+.

I tried solar panels. Bought a separated battery set up i can save enough for the house without connecting to the grid. Well California's government doesn't like people getting stuff for free. We got sued and we have to connect back to the grid. Because you cannot save money by disconnecting from the grid. But C.A says Hell No!!!!

Your other choice is to get solar installed and limit your business with PGE. Check Tesla and IRS websites for price and tax deductions. PGE should be broken into smaller utility companies that are better managed.

Gas procurement costs for PG&E went from $0.14/therm last week of May to $0.55/them in August in my area of CA. The actual usage charges are of course astronomically higher. Have electric too, solar not option. Sit in hot house in summer, cold in winter, while I pay for wildfires, subsidizing others.
