Greed is human nature. Our modern economy is founded on human greed and it's an incredible motivator. The issue is that for finite resources like land, unlike any other thing you can accumulate (like money or material goods) you can't make more of it and thus it's ripe for the situation where people buy the land and then charge people for its use despite doing nothing except being there first to buy the land. To fix this we need the government to impose a land value tax so that they actually use land for useful things instead of collecting rents from people who actually need it.

Person from Germany here who has been paying close attention to America ever since 2016 ... and this is by far the most distraught and dystopic thing I've seen so far. To me it seems like something revolutionary would need to happen. It is good to see that there are still people around who care and try to better things but they seem overpowered and outgunned by money and the established system. It is like America is eating itself up, like a cancer. I would not have survived my illness in the U.S. And now things will become even more cruel and insane than ever before ... too much for me to bare. Watching this tragedy unfold is heartbreaking and ultimately it could mess up Europe in serious ways, too. (It kind of already does ... it is only a matter of how far it will go)
@Puschit117 күн бұрын
Yeah, me too. And they still vote for Trump and scoff at Sanders ... the american dream has always been a lie but I thought that was very obvious for at least 20 years now. The financial/housing crisis of 2007/8 should have been the final wake up call for EVERYONE. Personally I could see the US eating itself as early as the 90s and that the foundations had been laid with Reagan, ending the gold standard and all of that. Since then it's rampant predatory capitalism which always have multiple losers for a single winner which can't be sustainable in the long run. It's a gigantic pyramid scheme. But they have enough people praising continuos exponential growth and enough people believing that. Most US citizens are fine people at heart, even Trump supporters, but once you leave the lower classes, there just is no shame whatsoever and the system is so unbelievably rigged and rotten ... so much so that the biggest swamp king of them all was able to become president by promising to drain the swamp.

troubling times now adays i hear the german coalition collapsed too right? idk what the means for the german people tho
@Puschit117 күн бұрын
@@fjfjfjfjffhdndnrnd2652 It collapsed for the better. One of the coalition partners was a traitor and guess that party won't play any role in the foreseeable future. Unlike the US we have more than 2 parties and it probably just means we'll have the "big coaliton" again where the two major parties (compareable to dems and old school republicans) will go together. And because they aren't as big any more as they were in the past they'll most likely include the environmental party as well, which is good. The "big coalition" usually doesn't get much done but it also doesn't get much worse and right now it's imperative that we don't become more populist and don't move further to the right. So, as long as that coalition doesn't include the AFD (compareable to Trump's maga-republicans) we should be ok. It won't solve the real problems of course but apparently nobody wants that anyway.
@Shadow-729517 күн бұрын
@@fjfjfjfjffhdndnrnd2652 I think the coalition in Germany was unsustainable. Too much conflict between the green party and the central left on one side vs. the so called "Free Democratic Party". If you can't buy premium, you're screwed.

I’m in Ohio and the housing market here over the last 7-8 years is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Homes that were bought for $130K in 2015 are now being sold for $590k. I’m talking about tiny, disgusting, poorly built 950 square foot shit boxes in quiet mediocre neighbourhoods. Then you’ve got Better, average sized homes in nicer neighbourhoods that were $300K+ 10 years ago selling for $750k+ now. Wild times.

Home prices will come down eventually, but for now; get your money (as much as you can) out of the housing market and get into the financial markets or gold. The new mortgage rates are crazy, add to that the recession and the fact that mortgage guidelines are getting more difficult. Home prices will need to fall by a minimum of 40% (more like 50%) before the market normalizes.If you are in cross roads or need sincere advise on the best moves to take now its best you seek an independent advisor who knows about the financial markets.

To my own research In USA, individuals living in cars due to partial homelessness result from a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income, stagnant wages, and income inequality drive this issue. Job loss, weak social support, medical expenses, evictions, and lack of affordable housing also contribute, while systemic problems and inadequate policies further perpetuate the phenomenon.

Considering the present situation, diversifying by shifting investments from real estate to financial markets or gold is recommended, despite potential future home price drops. Given prevailing mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, this move is prudent, particularly due to stricter mortgage regulations. I don't live in the US, but in Australia. How is lobbying politicians any different from paying off politicians? we laugh at countries like Russia and other dictatorships who pay off the rulers to be in power, but lobbying seems to be just a very "nice, white collar" way of businesses buying their way into politics, and often people suffer. What a shame.
@nathanielmohr9622Ай бұрын
The difference is that lobbying generally refers to spending money on the election campaign to promote your preferred candidate, while paying off a politician is a much more direct pay-for-play. In practice, there's no difference. If a handful of wealthy people got you elected, and you want to be elected again, you'll act the same as a politician that's taking bribes from those wealthy people.
@nathanielmohr9622Ай бұрын
Theoretically, the existence of Super PACs is supposed to be a "stabilizing force," since the money flows to the PAC which then finances the campaign of their preferred candidate, but then the PAC just finances the campaign of the politician most aligned with the interests of the biggest political donors anyway. So, again, no real difference.
@nathanielmohr9622Ай бұрын
Politics is just another business here. Big businesses invest in politicians or parties that will give them a return on their money, and that return has to come from somewhere. There's only really 3 places to get that return from: The competition of that business (usually via regulatory capture), the working class (via keeping wages low, leaving exploitative practices legal, etc), and by taking from other countries.

Because so many people overpaid for homes even while loan rates were low, I believe there will be a housing catastrophe because these people are in debt. If housing costs continue to drop and, for whatever reason, they can no longer afford the property and it goes into foreclosure, they have no equity since, even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. Not just for housing...look what Private Equity Firms have done to once beloved companies like Sears, Toys R Us, etc. The come in, saddle the company with debt that they can never repay and then pick apart it's carcass bit by bit!

Right on. And the bankers give them the money to do it as well.

@beachdweller3378 and our govement bailed out all of these shitty companies during the pandemic. Not even the govement cares.

No, K-Mart killed Sears through mismanagement, that wasn't private equity.

Sear was for sh*t. Dumpy clothes, nasty sales people. They did it to themselves, and took a long time.

Evidently my comment got deleted. My park in Tampa was purchased a year ago. They doubled my rent from $580 to $1300. The owners never fixed anything, and neither do they. And now we can’t move because the cost of living here is so high, we can’t save money to.

You may have to sell and get an apartment.

They're slumlords. Isn't withholding rent legal until repairs are addressed? This is really sickening. Also, if you can move, it's possible the same thing will happen someplace else. It seems like they're buying up all the mobile home parks.

S1300 as per Canadian standards is suddenly considered cheap. Imagine how horrible canada is...

TY for drawing attention to this issue. Profit over people in this country has to stop. The corporations have no intention of stopping so government must step in to protect the most vulnerable. ❤
