I live a few miles away from this airport. I don’t think this has ever happened here before. So sad. Hugs and prayers to the families and friends.

Very sad. RIP. Your dedicated services are rendered to the aeronautical field, which is remarkable and never fades away. Real tragedy on the father's day.

Leanne Suter must have been at this airport the entire afternoon! She did the interview and a report around 4pm. This report is clearly at night.

RIP🙏 to the pilots, I am truly sorry for their families loss,especially, on Father's day weekend. These pilots were very special due to their dedication towards WW2 aviation.✈️ Not trying to be insensitive, but I guarantee that this accident will be a future Mayday episode.

In 2018 one of the Condor squadrons WW2 era AT-6’s crashed on the 101 freeway near Calabasas. The Condor squadron is based at Van Nuys Airport.

Flaps in wrong setting, and wheels up too quickly retracted on takeoff. Pilot induced spin stall. Entirely preventable. Rushed checklist or no checklist followed.
@scotabot78264 ай бұрын
Right. Flaps were left extended, and the airplane will not fly with the flaps fully extended on takeoff!!
@sandbridgekid41214 ай бұрын
@scotabot7826 @blancolirio has flown that aircraft. He explained why it crashed in his latest video. He can figure why both pilots would make such a basic fatal mistake. It's like not removing Rudder, Stabilizer locks before takeoff.

Classic stall/spin scenario at low altitude, with no possibility of recovery. Condolences to the families of the two pilots.

They took off with flaps extended fully. That aircraft required Flaps up for take off Very sad.

Actually, this was a 'triple tragedy;' two aviators & a rare, vintage plane were lost. My condolences to all concerned. "Park `em, don`t fly `em !"
