LIVE: CFD battles fire in Hyde Park

We routinely pull crews out if interior is hording conditions and having trouble getting to the seat of the fire. Will go defensive until we feel we can transition back to offensive posture. That is completely acceptable and a learned strategy after losing way to many firefighters who press on and on and when it hits the fan they are unable to extract themselves in a timely manner! Smart strategy in my book! The only thing they need to learn is perception people form when they see on camera a building burning and what appears to them all the firefighters but one doing nothing but standing around talking laughing and joking with one another. I betcha there is another 50-75 firefighters working their ar...ses off but no one sees them! Perception to the ignorant is reality!

That may be the case, but this video shows one guy working, and others standing around laughing. At the very least this makes for bad "optics". Couldn't there be at least one more window breaker?????

@@FloridaCatholicGuy, Um I kinda think he is right. I mean they are breaking the windows to put water on the fire. But as the firemen are breaking the windows they should have already started putting water on the fire. But they didn't. Everyone has the right to post comments whether they are right or wrong. As a 8 year veteran of the fire service I can tell you right now Obviously know nothing about the way this job is done they evacuated the building because one apartment had hoarding conditions in it. Hoarding conditions are hard to navigate and it gives the fire more fuel to burn hotter and faster and longer I live in the City of Chicago and I can guarantee you these firefighters did everything in their power before they finally backed out of this building

So my mom is friends with the sister of the woman who owns this building And also lives in this building unfortunately they pulled the plug on her yesterday She was the woman that was found unresponsive in her apartment she was also the hoarder. I've been a firefighter for 8 and a 1/2 years and for months I have been telling my mom to tell her that she needs to get that apartment cleaned out because if a fire breaks would not be able to get to her in time And unfortunately my words became a reality
