Fun Fact; Ray and John told me years ago the reason you throw the larger ones back is those are the breeders. Boundary Bay along the Canada/USA border is the 2nd. largest producer in North America. As long as you put the breeders back it's a renewable resource.

Last year bought at local farmers market for $3.99 per pound after crab season starts. Hope this year will get a similar deal. Will check out next weekend.

For such a limited quantity item, the farther you get from the source the more you'll end up paying. $4/lbs is a crazy low price, I doubt you see prices that low unless the guy is just trying to get rid of things before the spoil.

Catching is at 25-30% vs. last year volume on the opener. Price will never be the same as last year. Whatever you see now is the lowest of the year. It will only go up from here.

They sell them right next to Scomas restaurant. We didn't go early in the morning, but got there around 2pm. We probably waited about 10 minutes.

85% of the seafood Americans consume is caught by foreign nations. Unfortunately state and federal government have regulated our fishing industry to death. State should cut regulations and make it as easy as possible for these fishermen.

Canada might be included in that "foreign" group, especially fresh caught, live, and specialty arctic seafood. Boundary Bay in BC all the crab are sold into Blaine, Wa. but half the bay is in Canada. I knew that last two white guys!!, john and ray, that had licenses there. Now it's all Vietnamese with aluminum boats.

​​@@hsuehhs1 It's a whole different thing. They are both delicious. With the blue crabs,you sit down and eat a bushel with your family or friends. With the dungeoness, it's about half a crab per person. And there's nothing sweeter than Dungeness.

@@thang1742 When this crab hits the market it will be more expensive than that very few crabs this year all along the west coast .Price to the fisher man may be over 10 a pound before the end of the season was 11.50lb recently in Washington st. These crabs are the cheapest you will see all year .

I've been watching fishing boats slip into Drake's Bay at Sunset and leave at Sunrise for over a week. I guess there's an 'official' and an 'unofficial' start to crab season. I saw the same thing last year when the season open was delayed.

Don't tell anybody but the best place to get crab in the SF Bay Area is at the many bait shops on the shoreline. Some carry live crab -- most of which comes from further north -- when slow seasons plague the local catch.
