In my old neighborhood in the BX, they built a baseball field, right before Covid- that not one resident asked for ,lobbied for etc. Of course the baseball field has entire went unused in the years since and I often wondered who got their pockets lined to make this happen because he never serviced the community.

Lobbying places the smartest people for any interest right next to the people with power. That's pretty valuable since, in a democracy, power is allocated by popularity rather than brains. If you think this is automatically equivalent to corruption, you severely underestimate the ability to earn money straight up in this country and also the capability and integrity of the FBI.

Why isnt NYCHA procurement handled by a central body. How crazy is it to put procurement decisions in the hands of low level employees who can bury or limit competing bids or worse yet are given award authority over certain contracts. The investigation probaly cost more than the 2mill in kickbacks paid. Change the procurement policies and randomly audit how they have been applied. It will cost taxpayers a lot less.
