A former New York State Assemblyman from Brooklyn has released a video of a driver purportedly using the sidewalk to go around parked school buses, coming within inches of young children.
Dov Hikind says the video was recorded at the Vizhnitz Cheder on 53rd Street in Borough Park, where the buses were dropping off children.

Amazing how people would rather spend the rest of their lives in jail than be Inconvenienced for 2-3 mins. (Priorities)

Since he did not actually hit anyone he will of course not spend much time if any in jail. Perhaps just pay a fine which I hope it is hefty. Yes school buses set you back 30 minutes but then there are tons of streets that detour around the school with perhaps only a ten minute delay where you can drive also. Or simply wake up earlier next time so as not to be caught during morning school bus drop offs. No excuse to do what this idiot did period!

@reallyitsme1980 you don't know much about kids do you? I work for a local school district and I've seen kids run away from the school bus after being dropped off. They run away from the school and for obvious reasons this usually means crossing the street opposite the school. Now if any person would want an extra lane just so they can pass buses well this situation I've seen can make it complicated. Also nobody's life is more important than any one else's. This means that regardless of the emergency a person thinks they might have there is absolutely NO reason to endanger other lives specially kids to take someone to a hospital like you mentioned. Go around the school if you have to or simply wait for an ambulance. They might have permissions to go around school buses. Simply don't ever drive on a sidewalk full of children exiting school buses.
@davidescobar5366
@davidescobar5366 3 жыл бұрын
@reallyitsme1980Yes stop all traffic because kids are getting off a school bus. That is why school buses have stop signals and it is against the law in most states to disobey this signal. Now what I meant by kids running away is not skipping school or truancy cas you called it. I mean kids and specially the younger ones sometimes feel the need to run away for the moment or get scared and run away for whatever reasons and run opposite the schools. Now you may think adults lives of schedules are worth more than kids but you are wrong. Kids and schools are here to stay and adults have to deal with this. Not nagg and cry like babies simply because they don't want to wake up early or go around the schools where kids are being dropped off End of discussion.

Unfortunately, this isn't the only incident of people with too little patience. I was at a school in a cab (the school doesn't have an official bus and hires cabs along with bus drivers). The cab driver was all the way in the back of the line. Both of the people he was picking up was already in his car. Instead of waiting, he literally did a U-turn onto the grassy hill, onto the sidewalk with kids still being let out through, and out the other way. Needless to say, his boss got a call immediately and he was fired and arrested.

Something like this happened in my elementary school. I was in the eighth grade. My school closes off the street in front of the school because there are over a thousand people waiting outside for school to begin, they won’t all fit on the sidewalk. Some dude had parked inside the street the day before, and that morning he tried to take his car out. Remember, a near 900 students. He kept inching forward like this guy. Me and my friends stared in disbelief. Eventually a security guard saw it and told him he can’t do it.

there was an ADULT THERE! What did he do, NOTHING!! I would stand in the way of this reckless motor vehicle and would have been punching the hood if they tried to move. Call 9-1-1 while blocking this guy. It's sad he wasn't willing to do anything as the only adult around outside of the buses/bus drivers. I see that driver WAS CHARGED. for this, but didn't see what the sentencing would be. This should have included public safety work around schools (if the perp isn't a perv/SO) and loss of privilege to drive, FOREVER. There is no world where this man should ever be able to legally drive again. But likely after fines are paid, this guy was able to get back into his car and endanger the lives of others once again. Our laws around cars, and the willingness for judges to take away such privilege need a lot of work.

@jbom26 quick in a sense that decision making isn’t always at peak performance. How often do we make eye contact as a pedestrian to a driver and trust that they’ll stay where they are? @jbom26 correct. Yet it happens all the time sadly. Especially in cases where you can't afforded or not willing to pay for maximum safety. For example, this man might be a volunteer parent. Can't fire a volunteer. You can send angry parents and KZbin's to them, but I doubt they'll get real punishment. That's not the priority anyway. It should be ensuring the future safety of the children. More training? Block the sidewalk? Better drop off system? I'm not saying there shouldn't be justice. But let's not lose sight about safety and prevention.

As for not giving any crap he once got onto another bus parked along side his for pick up. And berated a student for throwing trash at students on his bus (mainly mad at them for throw trash at his bus).. And had this been my dad dropping off these kids.
