There was one report last summer that a family left their boat dock and went out for the day. When they came back they could no longer reach their dock. The neighbor had a contractor on standby for when the families boat went out so he could modify his dock. He had told one of the neighbors that he could not put the cover over his boat until his neighbor went out on their boat. That incident had the police involved. The neighbors attacked one another over the structure. The police made it clear that they could not make anybody take down a structure. They had to turn it over to the permit department. When I first saw this video I thought it was this case that I'm speaking of and that perhaps a verdict from permits had came through.

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Contractors don’t sit on “standby” and why would they wait till the boat left making sure they would be stuck in the canal and have nowhere to go. You got fed a line of bs and bought it.

It's obstructing a waterway. Just like having someone's garage block part of a street. There's a good reason for that regulation. Doesn't make sense to allow these structures to remain in place and the owners not be cited.

@Bonniemish3 жыл бұрын
This boat has navigated past the structure multiple times. Not like you just threw it up and they were just suddenly blocked. Because of lack of control of their boat and the Outriggers, is what's bringing attention to the subject of these roof structures. The story kind of misrepresents what's going on here.

I don't see a problem with using the covers unless the actual roof goes past the dock and into the navigable water. I believe there are rules as to how far you can go out with a dock and the roofline should be limited to that setback as well. Would be a better solution than a lengthy legal battle that ends up costing the taxpayers.
@dcgo44r3 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Just keeping the cover frame bound to the boat's measurements will be a solution. But I know it won't be enough to the owner of who the sun comes at a different angle of what the cover/lift is positioned before of after noon! Well, well..they can pay the sun if they really care! That's what money is for! Lol.
@blaster-zy7xx3 жыл бұрын
The cover installer is just lying. The canvas part can be take down by bungies, but not the frame. It is the frame that is keeping other boats from getting through. You can't build a structure that interferes with water right of ways. This isn't even a hard problem to figure out. 1 second ago
