This left me emotionally destroyed. She lets him go because she thinks she deserves to be haunted for the rest of her life, that her ghosts will have to forever be her companions. Her voice betrays her. She looks at her younger self, the insecure, broken, suicidal Meredith, and even that Meredith is disapproving of her. I strongly hope Nick is not gone. Wherever they go, they can and absolutely must rebuild.

@@melissakurzbard2061 Since the accident Hayes left for Ireland, Meredith and the Minnesota team healed Hamilton, Meredith was offered a job at the Clinic and decided to take it but first she and Nick thought they’d help saving the residency program from being shut down because the Webber method failed and got a patient killed. Meanwhile everyone in Seattle was blaming Meredith for wanting to leave. Meredith screwed up with a risky operation on a patient here, Webber blamed her, she got hurt and mad, the program was STILL shut down and Bailey quit leaving her as chief. Owen almost got away with what he did with Noah but now somebody reported him to Bailey who gave him permission to run away with his family. I think it’s more or less everything.

I think this has been the cruelest thing that has happened to Meredith on Grey's. To be trapped, with all those ghosts, all that pressure, being held accountable for it all. I'd have rather she died, because then she would have been free. Instead it's another series of watching her struggle. Bailey is allowed to look after her mental health, but not Mer? It's just incredibly unfair.

True but when has Bailey ever been given the time to take care of herself. In all the years of greys her character is one of the most overlooked characters. The show never covers how much lost she has suffered and how everything she’s witness has affected her.

In fact the emotional and physical consequences on her have regularly been storylines, most recently when she almost collapsed talking to Meredith and Nick about Mer's job offer. The emotional consequences were also covered extensively as far back as season 10 as a long running story-arc. And frequently referred to since then. Pretty much every Chief of Surgery has stopped at some point dur to the huge pressure it puts on a person. But somehow Meredith, who has been through more than everyone else, is expected to be able to do it. When in reality her extensive traumatic experiences would likely preclude her from ever being a suitable candidate. And CoS is an administrative job. It's a leadership role. Meredith has always shown her greatest skills are research and surgery, not following rules (let alone setting them).

It really pains me as nobody who was in that job seemed to thoroughly enjoy it. Derek wanted it purely out of ambition and hated it. Bailey missed surgeries. Owen got trouble and anguish out of it. Somebody called this a bittersweet ending for Meredith and I don’t see what the sweet part should be. She’s destroyed and now she also lost Nick, hopefully not for good.

It's only been a few minutes, it's not like he could leave the state already. He probably even signed something saying he'd be there a month. And anyway he knows she's very upset and this is the first big fight they've ever had. And even though he was angry too he also had sympathy for how difficult it was for her - it's not like he suddenly stopped caring about her. I think he will wait a little to see if she comes after him or follows him vs if she still tells him to leave once she's calmer, and I think if she apologises or makes a gesture towards him he will listen.

@@junbh2 He knows Meredith and knows what she needs. I think he understands that she's pushing him away and not because she actually wants him to leave but because this is her default. He's just respecting her wishes. It seemed like it was less than a minute between him leaving and her chasing after him. My guess is he was barely down the hall when she yelled after him. Nick isn't going anywhere. He's in this with her. And I'm excited for her to have a solid, mature partner that understands that.

it’s so sad that mer is finally chief of surgery, which was coming for a long time, but now it’s not the huge accomplishment it’s supposed to be but rather a burden she has to take on because of other peoples’ decisions.. it’s not fair that everybody gets to be happy and go wherever they want and she has to stay in seattle where everything reminds her of the trauma she’s endured.. really tragic but truly fantastic!!

I’m heartbroken for Meredith, everything seemed to be going so well for her this season and now she’s spiralled into this impossibly dark place. Webber got to her and now she feels like she’s her mother. She’s haunted on all sides and she feels like she can’t escape, like she will never know anything better than her blood or her trauma. Nick was absolutely right, he was in fact more right than Richard, who’s known her for decades. I feel that this isn’t the end of them, that Nick is the one who will free her from her ghosts. I will hate everything if he doesn’t come back.

This would be the perfect time for all the doctors from previous seasons who have left to find out Grey Sloan Hospital is in trouble and all of them just begin to show up to help and support Meredith. Bring back Addison, Callie, Arizona, Alex, Izzie, Christina, Jackson, April, Megan Hunt, Nathan Riggs, bring them all back for the 19th and final season, end it with the hospital getting the residency program back and everything in tip top shape and Meredith finally able to move on after saving the hospital that built her mom, her sister and her. That’s how it should end.

This time, it’ll be them taking the reins and teaching everyone else what they learned and passing the torch to them. Plus, it’ll all come full circle with the residency program teaching MAGIC; now Mer and everyone else teaching the next generation of the hospital’s leadership and then end with everyone leaving and moving on with Grey-Sloan in capable hands and them finally being able to live happier lives without all the drama and painful memories.

It’s not fair what Richard said to her. It’s not fair that’s she’s being given no choice. The whole situation just sucks with the timing of the storylines. I want her to be happy and not be stuck somewhere that isn’t fulfilling her. And I hope her and Nick make up. It’s her defense mechanism to push people away when she’s feeling overwhelmed. Also it does seem though when she wants Richard to agree with her and he doesn’t, she rebels in a way and then she realizes her consequences after. She definitely sees that’s it’s been a pattern of hers. Hopefully she’ll maybe either learn her lesson or they let her finally be at peace and let her leave that hospital to be happy.

Agreed completely. I also feel like people took so much out on Bailey when Richard is the real bully with both of them. It feels even worse for Jackson to be the one to put her in that position when he's the only one in their friend group who truly got what it meant to be a legacy doctor. Loved it. The flashbacks, but also that moment when she looks at herself. That looked amazing. The music behind it made it even more perfect. I kind of expect a time jump next season. All of the actors who ''left'' the hospital (Teddy, Owen, the residents, Bailey, Richard, Nick) have signed on for next season iirc, so it will be tough to get them all back within just one episode. At least with a time jump Richard has had enough time to travel, Bailey has had enough time to improve her mental health/focus on the family, Mer will have forged a new foundation with her sisters + Jo + Link + other actors who still work there, and Teddy/Owen will have had time to solve any issues with the cops. Starting to think next season will be its last; at least for Ellen. A season to rebuild the hospital; after which she leaves. The question is if the show will end when she leaves, or if they will try to move on without her. Always thought they would end the show if Ellen left (they always said that), but lately Ellen has indicated that there could be a future for the show without her.

The double standard made me so angry! Everyone else is allowed to leave and grow but when Meredith tries, it is a problem. Whenever the woman from the council said Meredith is leaving, I kept saying "she is allowed to go". To trap her like this, making her feel like she is a traitor, a sell out, is cruel.

Meredith did leave when Derek died for a few years but she came back so it's not exactly true that she was stuck there forever .

I'm very happy for Kai and Amelia, it was a beautiful reunion. I'm also gutted for Meredith and Nick. I knew something would happen but it's borderline cruel to leave us with the doubt like this. I hope he stays. She loves him and the hospital needs him.

This is the Greys Anatomy I know and Love. These last 2 episodes where so amazing! I love the effort they made to make these last 2 episodes so great! I wish this is the beginning of the Greys we know and Love coming back. This is Great TV. Thank you shonda for letting us know that there is still hope for this amazing show. I love this show endlessly. I love every single character both the past and the present ones. I can’t wait to see what is in-store for Mernick and the fate of Grey Sloan! The 400th episode brings back the chill and the feel I get from GA in the past. Thank you!

It is not fair to Meredith. She was so happy this season and I think it's because she was half of the time in Minnesota, where there's no ghosts or things that remainded her of all the tragedies she had to live through. And she found Nick, with whom she is able to be herself without any expectations and to feel safe, comfortable and happy. (I love Derek, but I think that even with him Mer at some points couldn't be truly herself) And she is allowed to leave Grey Sloan and she should. But now, when everything is falling apart, Bailey decides it is OK to leave without notice (even though she is mad with everyone about leaving or not giving it), Richard decides to travel with Catherine and Owen and Teddy run away and the hospital is left on Meredith's shoulders and NO ONE asked her if she wants it or if she is okay with it. And AGAIN everyone left except for Meredith who had decided it is best for her to leave long before. In this season only Nick, Amelia, Zola and Addison really supported Mer, everyone else just judged her and told her she is disloyal and doesn't care about the hospital just because she wants to leave and start over, which is understandable and, I would say, even necessary for her. Anyway, I hope and believe that Mer and Nick will get back together and will be an endgame.

I lost it during that montage. it's not fair. Meredith has given her entire career to Seatle Grace/Seattle Grace-Mercy West/Grey Sloan Memorial. She's made a bigger impact there, than Ellis, Richard, and Bailey put together. And because she wants to move on (like every single one of her colleagues did,) she's called "disloyal," and is subjected to a barrage of gaslighting and emotional manipulation and blackmail. NO ONE is more loyal than Meredith Grey. She better get her happy ending.

I love that the flashback is backwards which leads us to the beginning of everything and we see all the important moments of Mers life with christina, the 007 on her hand, the heartbreaking scenes and all important and heartmelting MerDer moments😍 As a really big fan, you just know every episode of these moments... i miss the old times😭

Richard is being selfish. He did it when Bailey was pregnant when he thought she was leaving. Mer deserves to have freedom after all she's done for that hospital. That programme was destroyed by Schmidt and his mom. And Richard has a tendency of not fulfilling things or starting something and making it someone else's responsibility

But with Richards position in the Fox Foundation and Meredith being world renowned she couldn't do anything. But after it flopped Bailey was forced to fix the mess they started. And this isn't the first time Richard and Meredith do something like this and expect Bailey to fix it

damn this season finale was heartbreaking. almost everyone left i don’t even know who will we see next season. teddy and owen are pretty much gone, bailey quit and who knows if she’ll come back, schmitt and the other residents don’t work and GSM anymore either and richard is traveling now. I hope they bring back Callie, Arizona, Cristina (maybe??), Alex, Izzie, April, Jackson or literally any other old character to support Mer :(

This is such an amazing continuation of Meredith’s story. We have seen her from intern to chief of surgery at the same hospital, go through so much all in one place. And this scene just builds on that. We see this character that has endured so much and who goes from living up to the place she is to being held back by it. To see Meredith Grey and Ellen Pompeo leave for what else the world has in store for them, I say fair well and God bless. Neither of them owe us a thing ❤❤

I am a ride or die Grey's Anatomy fan...and that last episode had me in tears!! I have been wishing they would just end things b/c let's face it, it really is time. But God Lord, those last scenes, with the flood of flashbacks, hit me like a Mack truck (and I can literally name each and every episode shown, evidence I need a Grey's support group LOL). I hate Mer being put in this place, but we shall see what comes next season. I feel like the memories/flashbacks are what got her to run after Nick in the moment...our old Meredith would not have done that. She deserves to move on from there, as everyone else has; let's hope she finally can!!!
