I know Derek was the love of her life, and I loved Derek for her, but with Patrick leaving the show all those years ago (glad he could come back 2 seasons ago for beach scenes though), its nice to see Meredith happy. She tried with others, but this seems real. He gets her, and it makes sense. She has her kids, they're around the same age, I think? And they work well against each other. She's damaged for sure, but he has his baggage too. I hope the writers give her a happy ending honestly, but this is Greys after all...

She has many times risked her own life or her career to help another person - sometimes someone she loved, sometimes even a stranger. She does stand up for herself when people try to push her around, which is wonderful. It seems odd to watch a show where you hate the main character but I guess we all like different things.

Yes, even though he saw bits and pieces of how people were talking to her I don't think he entirely realised just how under attack she was from all sides at the time, and how much she really needed to feel like she at least had one person to be on her side... I have actually never met a parent who would be fine with their kid taking a year off university to go to south america and do psychedelic workshops. That just seems completely utterly normal and standard as a first reaction to me. I can't imagine any parent not freaking out, at least initially. And it took him just one conversation to accept it that same weekend... waaaaaaay more easily than any other parent I've known.

He is not. I love Derek and I always will, but Nick is super different from him. I can't say exactly what, but I think it's his humility and sensibility that make the difference. He's a person who, despite his problems, doesn't blow up when he gets angry, or blame it on others. He loves Meredith, he fought for her a lot, but he also knows his worth and respects himself without being arrogant.
