The ride no longer exists. But b4 the accident everyone just assumed "well it must be safe because it's open" You would have had no idea it was a death trap b4 the accident, it's not like crazy big rides kill people with any regularly. Riding an amusement attraction is one of the safest things you can do. You are more likely to be killed in a car crash driving to the park than being killed by one of it's rides.

I've done a lot of activities that required a liability waiver. Sometimes activities that could potentially be harmful and other times not so much. It's because the US is a litigious country that everyone makes you sign a waiver. I'm sure if it were practical to do, we'd make participants sign a waiver to use playground structures in public parks.

@@ch4z_bucks You should re-read padmepotters comments he or she is only insinuating that the father be mainly to blame (besides the people responsible in creating the slide in the first place which should take all the blame from there negligence and stupidity), the mother should be allowed to see her son even in that state as to see the terror of her and more greatly the fathers actions of letting them go on such a dangerous ride. Also the lack of effort from the father and to some degree the mother to help and support the father to pass legislation to prevent or lay to rest what has transpired so further “accidents” like this don’t occur through corporate negligence in the coming future. I remember taking a business law class a long time ago. I remember the lawyer teaching us. He said it does not matter if you sign a waiver or there is a sign saying dangerous, ride at your own risk, if you can prove there was a problem, and they knew about it, and did not fix it, then they are at fault. Like going to a baseball game, if you get hurt by a baseball hitting you, that is a known risk. You get hurt by sitting on the bleachers and they fall apart because it wasn't maintained properly, the owners are at fault because its not a known risk. I'm not a lawyer and I could be wrong, because laws can be different in different areas and they can change over time.

It is normal for a rollercoaster that your effective "gravity" is so reduced at the top a hump, that you FEEL like you might leave your seat. In fact, rollercoasters generally do not want the rider to actually be pushed up against the harness (zero or negative g) because the number of people who would vomit would be offputting. That park chain was so unsafe. I had a coworker that said that her husband did construction at one in south Texas, when a resort hotel was added to it. Apparently, a teen worker was doing work he wasn’t supposed to be doing, and was fatally electrocuted. When I visited, my child flew out of our double tube. There were no lifeguards in that area. The water was rough rapids and I was scraped along the bottom as I tried to get to her. Still have scars on my knee and elbow.

I’m no engineer, but a flimsy air tube, high speed downward trajectory with a second crested climb stands to reason it would shoot off into air on the second crest. Weigh the risks when giving someone control of your life.

I agree. It is not like a rollercoaster which has wheels on top undearneath and beside the track to keep it from flying off the track even if they made the second hill a little bit taller the boat might not go airborne but then again the boat might not even make it over the second hill according to how much weight is in the boat.

100% truth here...the very first time I saw this ride, I said to my partner, "THAT SECOND HILL IS NOT HIGH ENOUGH! Those rafts are going to come down the first hill and go airborne because the second hump is too low." Surely enough, that is exactly what happened and they had to redo the second hill. I have taken no physics courses, this was simple common sense, yet these ENGINEERS did not have the foresight to see that this was a crappy design. Even with the revamp, it still was unsafe. If you have to put a cage on something to keep people from flying out...that's French for CRAPPY DESIGN!

Any engineer with half a brain could have told you that this water slide was going to be a death trap one day. A vehicle that is not held and lead by rails going down a ramp with a bump in between where it relies solely on gravity and working breaks to stay inside the slide accompanied by an overhead net that is supposed to keep people from falling out. Just need one occasion where the breaks don't work properly before reaching that bump to make the vehicle lift off and start grating the passengers heads on that "safety net". They should have at least made sure that even without working breaks, that thing would not be able reach enough speed to lift off on the bumpy part off the water slide.

The crazy thing is the netting. What kind of scenario exists where a designer/engineer would say, "Well if the craft leaves the track, the net will keep it from falling. Problem solved." And then someone else doesn't say, "Well, what'll happen to people's bodies when they get thrown into the net at 50 mph?"

“Decapitated”. I don’t think they are referring to the head coming off like you see in films. Medically speaking a decapitation is when the atlanto occipital joint is severed. Essentially the skull is disconnected from the spine but does not mean the surrounding skin and soft tissue were also torn completely allowing the head to detach.
