Why is everyone so offended the mention of Erin being a single mother? It's only to highlight the fact that she accomplished all she did for the people of Hinkley while simultaneously raising children on her own. That's impressive and she deserves credit for it. Theres nothing offensive about it

I grew up in Hinkley and spent a lot of time in the hospital (Victor Valley Hospital) as a child. The doctor couldn't understand why a 9 year old boy was having "health problems that only old men have." We moved out of Hinkley when I was 12. I started getting better but still have health problems to this day. We never knew about the hexavalent chromium in the water. Then, one day, my sister called me and said, "You have to go rent the movie, "Erin Brockavich" right now and watch it." I asked why? She said, "You'll know why when you see it." So I did. It left me in tears. I finally understood why I've had so many health problems. I've had two different cancers, disks in my spine blowing out, and severe spinal stenosis. I actually called the attorneys and asked if I was eligible for some of the settlement money. They took my info and sent me a reply letter telling me we lived too far from the "contaminated aquifer." Years later, I found out that PG&E had bought almost all of the homes in our neighborhood and leveled them. 😢

$333 million settlement for 400 plaintiffs. That's $832,500 for each plaintiff, if divided evenly. Oh wait, according to the movie, Masry's firm got 40% of the $333 million which would be $133.2 million, leaving $199.8 million to be divided up among 400 plaintiffs. That would be about $500 grand per plaintiff before taxes. Doesn't seem like enough considering their suffering and losses.
@warplanner8852 Жыл бұрын
You make and excellent point and I agree it seems unfair. However, would Mr Masry and Ms Brockovich and Ed's firm have fought the case pro bono? Also, one wonders who pays the salaries and consultants and the other research fees to fight the case? Did the judgment include any consideration for those who legal fees?

Something I like to consider is the fact that the company didn't just get away with it. I have personal experience with big companies being allowed to do horrible things to the environment without being held accountable. Of course, that amount of money doesn't even being to deal with the fact that someone'a health is horribly effected!
@mareikerickmeyer177815 күн бұрын
Even worse, there was an additional 10 million for "fees" deducted by the firm, and it took them 6 months to hand out their plaintiffs' money. However, they money for each plaintiff was vastly different, supposedly according to each medical history. However, many were handed out only ten thousands despite their heavy medical histories. There was a 10 day cruise organized by the law firm though, with several judges and PG&E arbitrators in attendance.

I am with others on the constant "single mother" thing that is brought up in every post/youtube video and it drove me nuts in the movie too! Ok great you are a single mother who is smart, took care of her kids and ended up having a great career, I do applaud her for that. Throughout the movie she is constantly trying to make people feel bad because she is the single mom of 3 kids! There are millions of single moms out there taking care of their kids on their own. It's not anyone else's fault that she chose to hookup with losers and she wasn't forced to have any kids. I think she did fantastic work and I love the movie other than the constant single mom thing, I actually own it. It's not something that makes her special though!

You cannot just stick a suction pipe in and turn on a pump, (Nestle already tried that for their bottled water!). Lake Michigan could be an option, but I think Flint should have first dibs, don't you? I have already stated that the entirety of Ontario and Michigan and other northern provinces and U.S. States could be making better use of this natural resource. Leaving southern waterways, tributaries, and groundwater wells to supply those geographic areas. Also, we would have to manage the flow, so said southern tributaries wouldn't be adversely affected by directly using the Great Lakes for northern areas.
