Residents said they face major health concerns after being exposed to contaminated water. PG&E is continuing its remediation efforts to clean the Hinkley water, but experts say it will take decades.

I'm a Hinkley resident. My family lived next door to PG&E during the late 60s to 1973... mom was exposed during her pregnancies with my sister and I. My sister died at 3 months old. I survived but not unharmed... my DNA fused with cr6 and my kids are reapimg that mutation as well. The money didn't help. After the lawyers took their portion... and a lifetime of constant medical issues. We can't afford to move and others are too sick and are alone so they have no help. . . I live about 3 miles West... our well is tested regularly, but we still don't drink it. The levels are " with in government standards level"... I've lost most my family to cancers and lung issues.
@deborahblackvideoediting86973 жыл бұрын
That's so very sad. I'm so sorry. I always wondered what percentage of the settlement Hinkley residents received, but I didn't think it would be as much as it should have been. I figured if the lawyers took one third, and then the rest was split between so many people, it really wouldn't be that much money. And as you mentioned, medical costs would eat that up pretty quickly. When something like that is exposed, the government should step in and ensure the water is cleaned up and that everyone is taken care of, and also that those who did this are put in prison. But sadly, that never seems to happen.

The lawyers cut was *huge* too! Not trying to spit in old wounds but Erin was supposedly upset over not getting a big bonus off this case. I get lawyers do the footwork but the portion they demand is outrageously high! You're not doing good it sounds.....but Erin is living super large.
@kbanghart3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRandomINFJ do you know how much though, or is it hearsay? I really wonder. I mean, in the movie she got $2 million dollars, out of the entire settlement if her lawyer decided to give her that, isn't that his right? She did a lot of the work, actually most of the work. And lawyers typically get 30%. I had to retain a lawyer myself, it went about the same. Thinking that I would have gotten rich was just silly. Those residents should have taken that money and moved out asap, in fact I'll bet most of them did, we just don't really hear their stories. But if you find any other stories I would love to listen to those too.

In Erin's autobiography, she mentioned she had spent half of her $2 million on her son going in and out of various rehabs for substance abuse. There's the answer as to why she couldn't "give half her money" to the residents as some people are stating. Edit: forgot to mention Steven Soderbergh decided not to include that Erin was also affected by the toxins and hospitalized for a period of time, which undoubtedly cost money in medical bills. People need to stop acting like they know everything about someone's life by telling them what they should and should not do with their hard earned money. Remember, Erin was instrumental to this case which took many years and without her these people would have received nothing.

People get greedy .. a reason why the class lawsuit works so well is that there are high rewards in it for extremely hard working legal counsel. The plaintiffs don’t pay a cent for their legal representation in advance typically, but for the case of success they turn over a relatively large share. The remaining piece of the pie wouldn’t be there to distribute without the legal team who would have received NOTHING for years of work had the case failed. Now plaintiffs could keep all for themselves if they hired a legal team the traditional way. That s hundreds of thousands of dollars to cover before the case even goes to trial, and a risk to become liable for the Opponents legal cost. Take the risk - receive all the reward. Paying the lawyers high shares of the success is a risk mitigation strategy. Can’t have your Pie and eat it at the same time !

A lot of us who lived in Hinkley got nothing. They told us we lived too far from the contaminated water. Years later, they bought every home in our neighborhood and leveled them.

President Biden: "We now are number eight and China is number one. " We NEED infrastructure to catch up to China. "We're behind the curve" "African Americans have been put into or forced to live in areas that are polluted. So environmental racism has a lot to do with where we live and where these factories and these industries are located”, said a resident in Detroit, US. This isn't about one firm or one place , there's toxic air lead poisoning and water shutoffs across America for the last 6 decades. It's not only the air and water pollution ... the US has no high-speed trains most vehicles are powered by petrol slow internet speed it's also the bad food quality in the US hormones in beef and pork genetically modified crops, fruits and vegetables chlorinated chicken overprocessed convenience food full of chemicals

You keep leaving this comment below multiple videos about her. I'm not saying it was professional or acceptable but it doesn't seem like something Erin would do unless there was a family emergency or another very good reason. Since this happened in 2003 and it is currently 2022, I suggest you let it go?

Wait a minute, Erin gets 2 million dollars and the actual victims nothing?? That's a problem with class action lawsuits. The attorneys get paid large sums of money and the victims next to nothing!!
@karenflores49873 жыл бұрын
well, they didn't exactly say how much money the victims got. However for instance that lady who build the house in the town made a mistake. I would have moved out of that town for good. She lost her money because the prize of houses plummeted it in that area and she probably didn't get her money's worth. It also sounds like they ended up using that money for medical bills. At the end of the day we don't know how they invested their money.
@kbanghart3 жыл бұрын
@@karenflores4987 right, and honestly I don't know if Erin should get all the blame, or it could be that the judge had ruled how much each family got. In these cases, just because they announced a judgment doesn't mean each individual family gets that set amount. And it doesn't mean that she isn't owed that 2 million, I mean she worked her butt off and got the judgment done.

about 150 thousand per person tax free. Not alot but that's assuming that there are 1100 plaintiffs in the case. Class action is always good for the attorneys. That's just the way it is.
