In my trade I don’t make 100k, but pays me more than enough to invest, pay my bills, have no debt, have my weekends free, and don’t take work home with me. In university I could had been a nurse, teacher, scientist, etc… but they treated me more as piggy bank for profit purposes, and always finding all types of excuses to raise tuitions, twisting requirements to take classes that we don’t needed, many having to take more loans/debt, for jobs that don’t pay enough. Sadly, when I was attending college there were teachers whom belittle many of these trade jobs, thus students copy and pasting the same behavior and disrespect, and that is a huge problem too.

I had a college professor literally scoff at the idea of people becoming welders. I found it offensive because my dad is a welder and made decent money with it to feed his family. Some people in academia look down on trades like it's a low class lifestyle.

About time! Going to high school in the 90's, we were heavily pushed towards universities. A friend told his counselor that he planned on attending a vocational school, and was told that he was "throwing his life away". He now makes more than many others that completed college.

Colleges and universities have faltered both morally and practically by offering curricula filled with irrelevant content, charging students for courses that add little value, and failing to effectively teach the essential skills needed for success.

Colleges and universities should only be for super high learning degrees. You don't need a college art degree that says you can paint or draw.
@jackwindensky5606
@jackwindensky5606 4 ай бұрын
@@ArizonaSquatch Fair point, but my concern goes beyond just whether certain degrees should exist. The bigger issue is that colleges often don't deliver on the promises they make about the content and value of their degrees. Even within the supposedly relevant courses, they teach concepts that aren't particularly useful for their given field. For example, while it's understandable that a race car driver should learn about engines, this knowledge cannot come at the expense of omitting core racing fundamentals, especially when the goal is to become a professional driver. Worse still, devoting the majority of a degree to learning about engines instead of actual racing skills is a misallocation of focus. This was what my degree in Computer Science was like and I'm confident other degrees have this issue as well. That is, degrees are so inflated with courses that add little to no value, and the gap between what they teach and the skills needed in the real world is so vast that it borders on gross negligence. To top it off, they charge exorbitant prices to do so.

It doesn't make sense for a student to pay thousands of dollars of tuition to major in something with a low ROI. It's a major scam for top universities to charge tuition rates for a program with a low ROI compared to another with a higher ROI. I also notice counselors/career experts telling students a certain % of successful Americans obtained a degree, but it doesn't mean their degrees are the reason they are so successful. They could have a Bachelor's in Literature but eventually become successful a operations manager through time and experience.

This is the type of thing that I APPLAUD because we don't have enough plumbers, electricians, and carpenters. People are already in bad enough shape financially. Why pay to go to school only to get out in debt with no guaranteed job in the field you went to school for? Just get paid good money to learn a trade and excel in that field. And I'm happy that she's making bank with her electrician job and Tik Tok. She's spreading the word to a new generation that are starting to see that college isn't for everybody and there's absolutely no shame in that.

Yeah, but e.g. in Austria it's slightly different. Here you are allowed to start an apprenticeship at 15 after 9 years of school. You will work in a company and go to "trade school" for a couple of weeks/months per year. Usually this takes 3-4 years. Your salary ist not great, but kids usually stay with their parents. After 3-4 years you have an exam and then you are allowed to work as e.g an electrician. After that you may continue studying and become a master. But there are many different options in Austria. 5 year technical schools from 14-19 or combination of working at a company and technical school. Afterwards you could also go to university/college full or part-time.

american college is so much of a muse, now its entitled benefits are only to the extremely higher priced and prestiged, must have been changed by those who only want their exclusivity. even a masters will only guarantee a same wage as someone who went to trade school, and it costs 1000x more. when did your society' ever become such a per-verted one. now it seems youll have to pay a lot more for a degree with passing grades to even reach middleclass and thats with both partners working full time, those who decide what it becomes, are the most evil for greeds, and youve only done that, in everything you have ever done.
