Average people clearly don't know how to distinguish between drones and commercial airliners - the evidence is that 95% of these videos submitted by citizens are only showing regular planes. This can be proven in cases where the videos include date/time/location info. Plug that into the FlightAware FAA tracking database and surprise! They are planes seen from a distance.

The bigger question noone is zeroing in on is why aren't these things regulated requiring registration, indelible unique registration/license mark and sealed transponder with serious penalties for failure; just like other air users like private planes, ultralights, hot-air balloons? Sure there'd be cut-off a point were a lightweight low noise low speed child's toy or amateur's flying camera could be simply regiistered by the purchasing adult signing a liability understnading. These though are big, fast, heavy and pose a serious risk should they collide or drop with something or cause a noise nuisance! They've been around about twenty years'ish so why the flip haven't representatives acted on this? Why hasn't the FAA, Homeland Security, FBI, State legislators or Sheriff's departments been banging their drums drawing attention to the need for regulation? If they had, and this occured, then there would've been justifiable cause to forceably remove them from the air. So again, why aren't news desks asking these questions? Too busy whipping up fervour, increasing worry and proliferating wild irresponsible specualtion? Let's see and hear some better, more thoughtful and incise questioning!
