I love to learn about nuclear science, the technology, the benefits, the risks and the history so I was excited to see "Inside Fukushima: Beyond the 'No Go' Zone" come up in recommendations. That is until I saw it was American "ABC News". Get ready for exaggeration, drama, emotional drivel...with very little education value or science.

@Joey A -- You're not getting it, are you? It's the fact that you should feel and appreciate what you see for what it is. Not to force you into it. If something is worth appreciating, it's worth appreciating without post-processing effects. @Radocruz
@Radocruz 6 жыл бұрын
As I said, "Other places have journalism organizations that do work just like this one," I guess how some news organizations work, even ones all across the globe, represent the culture, nature, aptitude and intelligence of a continent? If you go about judging continents this way, then everyone is, "uncultured, childish, ignorant and rather idiotic." Unless you meant the United States of America if you are not trying to bottle up the whole continent which many people end up indirectly doing because of ignorance.

Lesson 2 on nuclear reactors, don't put diesel generators used in the event of power failure and cold shutdown water circulation pump power at emergency times at ground level right next to the sea, up on the roof or big hill much better, the plant would still be ok if it were not for these generators litterally flooding when the Tsunami struck.

They shut down any farms affected long ago and in the area surrounding the disaster zone the streets and trees have been cleaned and contaminated topsoil has been collected for safe storage. Any news on the notion that the Olympics, its foreign visitors, and athletes are at risk of health risks is simply poor journalism and fuel for the continuous societal fear-mongering. Many US media companies have financial ties to coal, oil and gas giants.

1:47 ....inside the damaged reactor - there are no damaged reactors - they are DESTROYED. Nice try... 3:25 ....thousands of bags........actually there are tens of millions (could be as high as 31 million). Nice try.... 4:04 .....looking for contamination with a Geiger counter. Many isotopes can't be detected and each Geiger counter is only "sniffing" one isotope. In addition they do not detect internal radiation, so if you breath it in or swallow it, the thing is useless 7:20 ....1500 fuel rods. No, it is actually 1500 assemblies containing on average around 70 fuel rods each. Nice try.... In addition, building 4 got completely destroyed and dismantled - how can one be in such a building?

What’s worse Chernobyl or Fukushima
@hishouha
@hishouha 5 жыл бұрын
Right now maybe Fukushima, since it’s recent. But decontamination progress are fast and population was protected and handled quickly. There were faults in the plant for sure and right now the sea is still getting polluted. Chernobyl, on the other hand, because of lack of technology and knowledge (mostly), a big part of the population were irradiated without even knowing because the government wouldn’t act quickly enough. Hundreds of brave men had to go on top of the roof, directly above the explosion, to clean it up, and thus with barely any equipment, resulting in lots of deaths and ills. Finally, the incident of Chernobyl was cause by human negligence while Fukushima was mostly caused by a nature catastrophe. So I guess you can have an idea which is worse, but both are still terrible tragedies that could’ve been avoided..
@hishouha
@hishouha 5 жыл бұрын
nymfe1 We can’t know for sure what’s going on with the decontamination process, but already Fukushima’s habitants can start to come back in certain areas. But the big difference for me is that Chernobyl’s tragedy was caused by human neglect during the daily testing process while Fukushima, even though there were definitely flaws in the construction, was nature caused. And then you can also compare the difference in fatalities which are enormous. Yeah, Chernobyl is definitely older, but what happened was still really terrible and still leave an impact even though it’s been decades

@johnnyhoffmann1367
@johnnyhoffmann1367 4 жыл бұрын
The radiation detector is going off because the Gamma Radiation emitted from some of the radioactive particles is penetrating the protective plastic. Gamma rays can pass through almost anything as the object is not too thick, and also they spread out as you go further away from the gamma source.

They seem to be suffering from similar problems that the Chernobyl liquidation squads ran into with regards to water contamination and lack of transparency. They had pieces of the core in the surrounding water. They drained the area and removed the material at the bottom. The pieces in the ocean are obviously problematic. Japan is an advanced society but it doesn’t want to panic people. The lesson that’s missing is that an informed public is a safer people. The backlash from information suppression is bad for everyone.
