@ yes. There is a study that shows that the wind breaks caused by trees, can actually help slow down the spread of fire from blowing embers. However, there is a caveat, the amount of flammable fuel under the trees. Eucalyptus with years of dry and dead leaves, barks, flowers, pollen etc can be the source of maintaining the fire but also of new burning embers. You are also right that bone dry house materials can be easily ignited, but again, this is why boxed in eves, asphalt shingles, and hagen vents are so important. I thing one of the biggest threats to homes are the wooden fences that have been drying and aging often for decades. especially when these fences come up under the eves of the houses.

You don’t see any of them helping. It’s sad. I pray for the everyday people who may not be able to rebuild and are suffering a devastating loss. What exactly do you want them to do? Some have lost everything just like anyone else in this situation. They can't get back in to the areas to do anything yet. Some of those areas are totally gone. No homes. No infrastructure. No shops, schools etc. Many of these people donate every time there is a disaster like this whether it affects them or not. They're not all the same. Maybe they are actually trying to arrange insurance claims etc for their own homes right now. Can you even begin to understand how widespread and how many people are affected? No! It depends on the positiong of the "fuel" trees, brush, homes. Also there are canyons, you know valleys between mountains, western hollers. The vegetation is dry, very very dry, like no rain for 3 months. It is not a humid climate. The Santa Ana winds are hot and dry. They come every year some years several times. They are always powerful 30-40+ miles an hour but at one point this week they were around 80 - so much so the helicopters with water were grounded for several crucial hours. So any type of spark landing wherever the winds blow them....

Pray is not the word I would use. I saw this back in the 90s. Saw fires then. Heard about how the climate's change will lead to fires like this. I don't really feel bad for them, or celebratory either. I don't enjoy the masscares in the middle east, or really the ukrainian-russian war. Not hugely for or against anyone right now. I'm reminded of when Black Wallstreet was wiped off the map, back in the 20s, or the trail of tears, or the mexican war. Can't say I enjoyed any of them either. Suppose we'll see more people arguing hearts and prayers and nothing actually being done, so those ten thousand families are fucked. There's always next year for people to pretend they care, I guess. You're due twenty more fires like this over the next decade, at least. Get used to disappointment. I don't think your gov is going to help anyone anymore.
