Wildlife OVER human livelihood is insanity, but just consider the raw material and production needed to rebuild. Drilling, fracking, burning, mining, cutting, smelting, smoking, generating, chemicals, planting, watering, fertilizing, harvesting, transporting... I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it would be to see my house and all of my family memories burn to the ground. No saved baby clothes or artwork from my children. How unsafe my children would feel knowing that a fire took away their comfort blanket/stuffie. I ran those things may seem minor, and people can say ‘those are just material things’ but they are our comforts and part of our memory. And it’s not easy to rebuild from scratch. Insurance isn’t going to cover everything that these people lost. This is life changing. They are survivors. It will not be an easy journey for any of them

Okay...apparently people don't understand that there is an ENTIRE genre of walk around videos. It's content based on first person views of walking - through parks neighborhoods, shopping centers/malls, abandoned homes/ghost cities, tours of homes, tours of cities...it's literally just people walking around. There is nothing suspicious about it. There are people who eat that content up. I guarantee you that this isn't the first time someone has filmed a place got destroyed and probably isn't the first video of a before and after route.
@AbsentWithoutLeaving15 күн бұрын
No one seems to notice that this video was posted by ABC. Someone did a deal and no doubt made a bunch of money by duplicating a walk-around video from 8 months ago after the fire and splicing together the before and after video we're looking at. But this is 2025, and people want DRAMA, so of course, it's a massive conspiracy. I think we all know who we have to thank for turning our world view into nothing more than a "reality" TV farce.

I live in southern California, and there have always been seasonal Santa Ana winds, but they are becoming more frequent and much more powerful in recent years. It's my understanding that the worst winds in the past few days here reached over 100 mph, and the criteria for a hurricane is 70 mph. I have heard much baseless criticism of our fire management practices from people outside the state, and they have no concept of a 100-plus firestorm and how quickly it can move and overwhelm. They also criticize that air drops weren't used sooner, but all fire aircraft cannot fly at wind speeds of over 30 mph due to safety concerns. I sincerely doubt any area in our nation could stop firestorms in exces of 100 mph. Our firefighters are doing their best and crews from all over the western US, Canada and Mexico are here too on the fire lines. Thanks to all of them and my condolences to people who have lost their homes and families who lost loved ones.

Take note of the structure around 7:00. Very little vegetation near the structure, lots of concrete surrounding it, steel garage door and a stucco exterior. The style may not be particularly appealing, but this is how homes should be built in California. I'm a 62 year resident who was born and raised in SoCal and remember being 12 years old, standing on the roof of our home with a garden hose putting out embers and firebrands as they landed on our SHAKE roof. We live with a legacy of homes not built for the environment, but built to a style or price-point. Blaming Newsome is foolish. Might as well blame Pat Brown, Ronald Reagan and Pete Wilson.

Hey everybody commenting here with suspicions of this video, like how did they “know” where to film before, like there’s a conspiracy. Just stop. Neighborhood walking videos are very common. I often make them for myself when I’m visiting Europe. Someone did this once here months ago and then replicated their walk after the fire. Please focus on the tremendous destruction and the tragedy and heartbreak of the loss for the people affected. That’s this video’s purpose.
@peaceloveharmony721315 күн бұрын
Why do people do that? Why do you do it? I can understand recording a nature walk or recording an area to show friends later but a lengthy walk like that pointing your camera at private home after home after home… Seems very strange. Do people really want to watch videos of somebody’s walk thru a residential neighborhood? Is it for the walker’s own viewing pleasure? I’d be asking what the heck they were doing filming mine and my neighbors’ homes if I lived there.
@soyyoroaldo15 күн бұрын
@@peaceloveharmony7213 Really? You don’t understand? One of the main things homeowners like to do is fix up their homes for their own pleasure and the pleasure of others. A tremendous amount of thought and creativity, often very personal, is devoted to this, many as projects ongoing for years. And Los Angeles is one of the best cities in America to see this homeowner ingenuity and pride on display. I’ve walked many of these neighborhoods myself and it is a nearly constant stream of marvel and joy as you pass by house by house by house. If you go to newsstands you’ll find a whole magazine section devoted to home improvement and design. Architectural Digest, Home and Garden, House Beautiful, etc. Stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s largely exist for the homeowner who wants to fix up their own property as they see it in their mind’s eye. Many of those Palisades homeowners WANT you to look at their houses! It’s a kind of gift. It’s celebrating life. They are wonderful to find on KZbin, as are countless neighborhood walks through Assisi, Mont Saint Michel, Ljubljana, Dublin and Racine. All of this makes it so heartbreaking to see these homes, built and cared for with love by their owners, taken away in an instant by fire and completely destroyed.

In 2018 the Paradise, California Camp Fire killed 85 people and destroyed thousands of homes. Shortly thereafter, the ‘This Old House’ program on PBS dedicated a brief season to that community as the show helped rebuild one of the local residents’ homes. In one of the episodes of that short season, the show’s hosts carefully explained many simple steps that homeowners can take to dramatically reduce the likelihood of their homes being destroyed by a flash fire. Their advice included such things as closing in the eaves of the house so that sparks can’t get into the attic, installing fire resistant window glass and fire-retardant roof shingles, as well as not having wood structures or piles of firewood stored near the house, nor bushes grown against the house. Aerial footage of the Paradise, California community in the aftermath showed acres of homes destroyed, yet well-protected homes right in the middle of the fire’s path remained intact. When I now look at some of the aerial footage of the communities devastated by this week’s fires in California, I can’t help but notice how many neighborhood trees survived while the surrounding homes were destroyed. Apparently, even the trees can resist fire better than the matchstick homes that were built in those neighborhoods. The bottom line is that nothing was learned from the Camp Fire tragedy. I have great sympathy for those who died, were injured, or who lost loved ones. However, to paraphrase an old adage: “You can lead Californians to water, but you can’t make them think!”

If it was homeowners insurance that canceled on me during the summer, I would’ve immediately put my house up for sale and lowered the price enough to get out of there, pocket my money and walk away if they can’t continue to insure me it isn’t wise to hold on to it.

But what if that also happens in your future home?

@@DrAmber2004 if that comment is referring to me, my family is in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California. last year they’ve got the notice that their insurance if your State Farm will be ending or you will pay up to four times the amount of annual insurance for your home because your area is now rated as a fire risk city even though there’s been no fire in their area that is what I’m referring to so if they canceled their insurance six months ago, they should’ve done everything possible. I’m not saying it will always work for everyone but efforts to try and get out of there if there was no other insurance company to take them on would have been best. And if the worst happens, it helps not to stock pile your luxuries in the home diversify and have your assets in other places. That’s all I’m saying, prepare for the worst. My statements do not excuse what the governor and leaders of California are doing to the people it is demonic and wrong.

@ but you are victim blaming. The people aren’t to blame either. I would pay that burden on the insurance companies who decided to drop them. Plus we don’t know the reasons provided. We don’t know the stipulations given. We don’t know the time frame of these decisions. And we don’t know their financial situations. If they wanted or could move. The steps they took after finding out the notice. We know nothing really. So why even make this statement?

Heartbreaking and hard to comprehend even seeing it. Excellent job capturing it exactly as it once was filmed before all the devastation.

Truly heartbreaking. I hope lessons will be learnt when rebuilding. Nearly all these houses are built almost entirely from wood, and there is so much vegetation right alongside them . At 7:22 we see a horse almost untouched, which I don't think is simply luckk, it appears to be brick/block built. Concrete roof tiles, all block construction, metal roller shutter, no vegetation nearby etc. All these things (+ earthquake proof too) must become the norm here or this will happen again.

Why was the reservoir above Pacific palisades bone Dry?

I think the cover was being repaired from a rip. Without the cover it was contaminated water or something. Was set to reopen in February I think

💰💰💰💲💸💸💲💲When government officials allow people to build a community closed to mountain with trees in California, which is a desert land, "multiple reservoirs" with homes being built should be required and charge the owners of the community a management fee (HOA) on maintaining functioning reservoirs to use effectively in case of fire. Every time when the Santa Ana winds blow, there will be damage to the forest animals in your neighborhood, and home insurance premiums will go up every year, and coverage will decrease. . . . It seems that no one tries to fix the barn even after losing the cow !!! The government officials keep evading responsibility every year by saying "global warming" "natural disasters caused by dry weather” Or Do they have in-laws in the construction business ??? 💰💰💰💰💰💸💸💸💲💲💲

They refuse to get rid of the underbrush that adds fuel to these fires, and the governor is an idiot who diverted water to save a few fish!!!

Are you kidding meee????! 90% of prop insurance companies like State Farm, Allstate, etc. cancelled all coverages just B4 the fires because they got tipped that DEW hell was coming soon !!! Only way to survive there is every house must have a swimming pool with generators and hoses !!!

I noticed that commercial building (storefront?) toward the beginning that was gutted, but the big terra cotta planters all along the streetside wall were just fine! (Not so much the vegetation planted in them, that's toast, but the planters don't even appear to have a crack. Pretty durable stuff, I'd say.

Oh my goodness, the devastation is complete. The houses are gone, even the stucco are burned completely. Like N. CA a few years ago & Maui there is nothing left of the houses & cars. Peace to all the people who lost houses & people in this apocalyptic destuction.
