I write this comment out of tremendous respect for unfortunately now deceased SSG Ronald J. Shurer II, a soldier, a son, a husband and a father taken from his family, friends and country far too soon but one whose memory shall live on in all Medal of Honor recipients and all those who answer the call to service and duty and whom wear the sacred cloth of our U.S. military! As we recall that fateful day in 2008 some 12 years ago we recall a soldier who despite overwhelming enemy fire fought with outstanding honor, courage, bravery, gallantry and valor to help tend to the soldiers whose lives he helped save as a senior medical sergeant! SSG Shurer sir you did your country proud both in service to our U.S. Army and the Secret Service, Rest In Peace sir, I salute you!

Corrie Henning After the mission, 10 silver stars were awarded to those involved in the battle. Staff Sergeant Shurer received one of the stars. Years later, the military looked over awards given since 9/11 and decided that he deserved the Congressional Medal of Honor.
@coles2688

Corrie Henning Like Sue said, there was a major review of every valorous award given to every branch, that’s why this took 8 years to get. It’s also why it took 16 years for TSgt. John Chapman to get the Medal of Honor.
