Someone I know who is a Haitian national who now lives here. He tried to open up a small business in Port-au-Prince with the idea of employing people and providing them with an honorable income. Unfortunately, that business did not last more than a couple of years before the gangs took over and got my friend arrested on false charges. I know for a fact that my friend is an honorable human being, which makes it all the more infuriating.

@dianakidd4219 The problem is Haitians don't want to feel like anyone else can do anything in their country. Once you leave Haiti, even if you come back later, you are no longer part of the community. They feel as if nobody else can do anything. All countries should stop all support for Haiti and let it die out in a couple of years. No ships coming in or leaving. The ones that learn to farm will survive. Parts of haiti with no inhabitants that have plenty of trees will become the new cleaner cities.

Poor decisions by Haitian leaders share the bigger blame. After winning independence, Haitian Leaders opted for blood instead of statebuilding, invading Spanish Hispanola to stick it to the Spanish and killing all the whites (including those sympathetic to their cause) in Haiti that could have helped with statebuilding. But regardless of who's to blame, pointing the finger at France is pointless when it comes to fixing Haiti cuz there's nothing France can do to undo their mistakes. Reparations? That will do nothing but line the pockets of Haitian gangs and the politicians on their payroll. Statebuilding? The U.S tried that and it only made the situation in Haiti worse. Take over entirely? It's quite amusing how we find ourselves engaged in a distant war while a conflict is unfolding right in our vicinity, yet we seem to be turning a blind eye. Let's face the reality here: If all the nations of NATO were to unite and extend their collective efforts towards Haiti, they could likely resolve the situation there more swiftly than the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Given that the gangs in Haiti are fragmented, we could systematically address the issue by sweeping through the country, segment by segment, and simultaneously provide employment opportunities to the local populace along the way.

The solution to the problems in Haiti. Is not for everyone to leave Haiti. Let's focus on the real issues. Start with Haitian democratic elections. (They will need official Identification to vote) Stop promoting Illegal migration. Stop financing Gang leaders. Stop sending Firearms and ammunition. Stop the Open airfields for drug cartels and weapons traffic. Stop the Open seaports for drug cartels and weapons traffic. Stop Open borders for contraband and human traffic. Stop ONG's corruption. the solution to the problem in Haiti is not for everyone to move to the Dominican Republic. ONG's , NGO's and the international community should help them rebuild their country, Infrastructure, sanitary ,food production, public safety and above all a democratic elected government. This requires official identification document for Haitian voters. Let’s promote legalization in the country of origin first. Not illegal migration.

I hate to use the term “failed state” but…yeah. Best thing to do is for the rest of us to welcome the scared, hard-working people fleeing with open arms. All they want is a chance to live and work in peace and anyone in their right mind would flee all of this suffering.

It's a humanitarian issue for sure, but the whole world is in one. We need to look at helping nations become fruitful again. We cannot support the entire impoverished nations on our soil. With mindful policy and support, we can help other nations become self sufficient.

@@Mossi_x black market of course. There is no shortage of places wanting to sell guns drugs and ammo I'm sure! I'm more suspicious of these gangs taking that international Haitian aid money. $13 billion in relief aid sent there in the last 10 years.
