ChatGPT; Describe Media Watch: ABC Media Watch is an Australian television program that critiques and analyzes media coverage of news events and other matters of public interest. It aims to hold the media accountable for their reporting, to help improve the accuracy and fairness of media coverage, and to promote public understanding of the media's role in shaping public opinion. The show focuses on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), but also discusses other media outlets, including commercial television and radio, print media, and online news sites.

I generally like Media Watch, but I think the coverage of ChatGPT was a bit slack. If you read the company's website it makes it clear that at present it is not attached to the web and uses information that stops at 2021. It apparently has done this purposefully as it is experimental technology at this stage and needs some guard rails. So gleefully announcing that it could not comment on events of last week is no discovery at all, and somewhat unfair. A bit like criticising a book on World War 1 for not mentioning the Invasion of Normandy.

The power of ChatGPT isn't that it does all the work for you, it's that it does the heavy lifting for you. As you said, 'garbage in, garbage out' , so provide it with facts instead of garbage. By providing basic facts of the news, ChatGPT will write up a full article for you. Like all AI tools, it's only as good as the information you provide it. It won't replace journalism, but it will replace journalists as it cuts down the time needed to write articles, thereby cutting down on the number of journalists required to keep the current 'quota' of articles met. The following is based on about a paragraph of information I found about the Clarke scandal in about 5 minutes of searching. I don't follow this kind of garbage news normally, and I'm not putting in more than 5 minutes looking for information on a topic so unsavoury, so YMMV on how current it is. But I challenge any journalist to research and write better in under 10 minutes. Former Australian Cricket Test Captain Michael Clarke was seen sporting bruises following the Noosa video scandal. The altercation involving his girlfriend, Jade Yarbrough, which was captured on video, is continuing to make headlines. Despite the public interest in the matter, Clarke had remained tight-lipped until last Wednesday, when he broke his silence and apologised for the drama in a statement to The Daily Telegraph. In his apology, Clarke stated: "I accept full responsibility for this altercation and am shattered by my actions." This was the former cricket captain's first public statement on the matter and has generated further media attention. Clarke was also heard making comments on the radio, representing his first public statements since the apology. The exact circumstances of the altercation remain unclear, but reports suggest that Clarke and Yarbrough were involved in a physical fight, which resulted in bruises for the former cricket captain. The Noosa video scandal has sparked much discussion among sports fans and the general public, with many expressing their concern for Clarke and Yarbrough. Despite his apology, the fallout from this incident continues to create headlines and it remains to be seen how it will impact Clarke's reputation and future endeavors. The public continues to wait for further information or a statement from either Clarke or Yarbrough, as the controversy surrounding the Noosa video scandal continues to unfold.

ergh, ChatGPT is NOT AI, it is ML (machine learning), there are very big differences between AI and ML. ML is essentially a neural network using statistical methodology to associate data. It is not self-directed. And it doesn't provide complex code, trust me, I have tried to use it, you always need to either modify it or the code just doesn't work, it's good to get a quick reference to get an idea how to do something, but it's not a solution.
