As a child, now over 50, I saw these buffalo catchers with the arm on a 4wd. My dream job. Thanks great article.

Just a couple of comments, goats, on my experience will eat vegetation down to about 6-8 inches (150-200 mm) and move on, returning when it has grown. Secondly the secret of virus diseases is to select for resistance to prawn white spot disease. In any population there will be animals with higher resistance than others couple that with reduced stocking rates so they are not under stress. These people have the experience to turn industries around. I paid $36/kg for lamb last week at the W store, that values an average 33kg top priced ($4.50/kg) live lamb at about $594 dressed, a difference of $446, where does the money go? A breakdown would be helpful, Pip. Good show Pip and ABC.

Australians should realise they are no longer in Europe. The majority of Australian land and climate don't suit cattle and sheep. Here we have unpredictable weather that can get very harsh and dry. That's why the farmers of these animals suffer. We should look into the animals that are suitable for this climate, such as those that went feral there and feel very much at home. We should raise goats and even camels instead of sheep and cattle. What's wrong with goat and camel? Have you tried them? They are actually very nice. And in no time people get used to them; certainly better than the vegemite. There is even a better international market and less competition for them.

Why don’t they investigate the RBA and it’s actions from two years ago at the behest of the prime minister of the time when investigating where high prices come from. You can’t create hundreds of billions of dollars out of thin air to pay for debt that funded people to stay home, and not expect inflation to follow.

Yes we need more indigenous Rangers. So start using them and paying their true worth. People trained in proper burning off methods so we don’t have all these horrible bush fires. Responsible management of Goats and other feral creatures could be an absolute winner for Australia. Don’t forget responsible management of our borders and marine areas that need protection.
