Peter Dutton this week confirmed he'll go to the election without a 2030 climate target. He says the government's 43 per cent target is unachievable, and he'll only work out an alternative 2030 goal once in government.
This means voters won't know at the election how much - or how little - the Coalition would do to reduce emissions over the next 10 years.
It's certainly a gamble. Peter Dutton is betting voters care more about immediate hip pocket concerns.

Much of the focus this week has centred on how this will play politically, but the science of climate change is often overlooked when politicians debate the cost of Australia's net zero transition and emission reduction targets.
David Speers dives deep into the science with one of the world's leading experts on climate change and its impacts on Australia and our region - Dr Joëlle Gergis.
Gergis has just published a Quarterly Essay and the title 'Highway to Hell - Climate Change and Australia's Future' gives you a fair idea of her level of concern.
