Although I would argue that less is more when you hear Doug Gilmour playing guitar for Pink Floyd in Shine On You Crazy Diamond where he is playing about four notes.

Yeah those people are just jealous. Imagine critisisng a guy THIS good... I mean c'mon. Hes inspired his style from classic music, Bach in particular. You say bach has no "feel"? Also the dude is literally orgasming while he's playing, and you tell me no feel? Get out of here. Hes got so much feel that he expressing it with his whole body.

@@Fenar_ Different as night and day. Gilbert's like a superior lyrebird. He can play any song. Yngwie BLEEDS harmonic minor and bach. Better, no. But there's definitely still potential for Gilbert to blow someone's mind even after they've heard Petrucci, Vai, and Malmsteen. Not Shawn Lane, tho. Once you grokk Shawn Lane, you just mourn him and nod knowingly at other guitarists.

Here are a few fun facts about Yngwie: 1.) He taught himself how to play guitar by watching his older sister play violin. 2.) As a teenager, he absolutely adored classical music and lists some of the titans of classical as an influence along with Jimi Hendrix and Richie Blackmore.By far, his favorite classical composer is violin virtuoso Niccolo Paganini. 3.) He currently resides in Miami, Florida and you can follow a trail of guitar picks (ala Hansel & Gretel) to his house. 4.) He is a die-hard Ferrari enthusiast and has mentioned a few that he's owned. Yngwie was the man who really got me into the neoclassical style of playing and the first guitar I ever bought was modeled after his. My guitar teacher (and friend Jon) had a friend who built a replica of Yngwie's signature Stratocaster in his (the friend's) garage and Jon bought it from the friend. Jon then offered me the guitar for $100. Seven years later, and I still have that guitar and absolutely love it, and named it after a very good friend of mine. I also added a few stickers to the body, one for D'Addario strings and the Super Smash Brothers logo.

Well, you obviously picked the wrong video here. Far Beyond the Sun was on Yngwie's first album "Rising Force" which released in 1984. Back then he played it looking like a slinky rock god. It blew my tiny little mind when I heard/saw it in 1989 or so (I lived in a podunk little town in Oregon and had no idea that any sort of rock was happening in 1984). He wasn't wearing all the jewelry back then and he was a bit ... um ... slimmer -like all of us were 30+ years ago. When I first began playing the guitar, it was because I wanted to play this song specifically. I never reached that level. But I did use another of his songs, "Eclipse", for warmup. There's a section in "Eclipse" from about 1:25-1:52 that you can start to play slowly and build until you match his speed. That was a game-changer for me. It's not technically complex, you just have to repeat it until you can go fast as hell.

Malmsteen is crazy talented. He is one of the few shredders I don't get tired of listening to after 5 minutes or so. His phrasing is so clean. And you can hear the emotion in his playing. Anyone that says otherwise is tone deaf. The one thing he is lacking is a song writing ability. He could have been more popular back in the 80's if someone had teamed him up with a decent writer and singer.

There is never any slop, never any mud, never any mistake made. He's very crafty and technical with his notes. Luckily I got to meet him one night in Orlando after a small-venue concert (with the great Tommy Aldridge on drums!!) back in the late 90's, and he was very amicable and talkative...and good Lord his wife was smokin' hot. Anyway, the dude is just a master and his style of music is a kick in the nuts to listen to. Play on!!

Yngwie idolized Hendrix and is classically trained. He was actually in a car accident once and went into a coma, and when he came out of it, he was afraid that he didnt have his guitar skills anymore, but he recovered and still jams hardcore.

When you said, what did he just do? Seems to me like it was "Tongue Strummin'". Guess it can be done on a guitar too...😏 Great reaction, as always Hef. He's another guitar-playin 👽Alien. 🔥🔥🔥This guy's shredding has always blown my mind, must be the greatest classical rock guitarist of all time so far...☮️. to all.

Welcome to Neoclassical shred! It was about time, guitar licks (literally) and all. :) :) ;p Yngwie has a deep back catalogue, including numerous hits with vocals (the guy WAS prolific, and he had some pretty strong vocalists on his side back in the day), so at his least extravagant he still produced catchy and coherent songs. But really, as you said, such guitar music (while admittedly being a matter of taste) can stand or fall on its own. :) Thanks for he react!

Wow looking at you now comparing you to before you started listening to metal, you have CHANGED! You are a new person, full of confidence! It is beautiful bro! Rock on! Say hello to my fellow Swede little friend! lol Also, know that Yngwie really wrote and recorded all of the other stuff too, except the drums. He only let other musicians in later at the recording phase, but he did all of it.

If I tried to play my fingers would get tied up in knots like a cartoon!!! 😂 My son listens to Angel Vivaldi which is also an instrumental music band, my son also plays the guitar. Awesome video I dont think I would have listened to this on my own, so thank you for this!!! Oh and have you heard about the "Death metal grandma"? I came across her video yesterday posted by The Atlantic, her name is Inge Ginsberg and is also a Holocaust survivor. Had to share that with you. 🤟🤟🖤🖤🤘🤘
