Abduction

Bride-kidnapping is a crime and should be eliminated! UNDP together with UNICEF and British Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic has produced a short film that talkes about how the kyrgyz society could stop this.

I don’t know if anybody noticed or I’m just thinking way too much about it, but when the older woman laid down and threatened that they will experience no happiness if they step over her, the man willingly carried the young girl and stepped over the lady himself. Maybe this was somehow his way of saying, « I’ve lived a long life so I don’t care, but this girl still has much more years to live. »

Whatever it meant, it was badass 😎. Mainly because this is sadly how many kidnapped brides end up, pressured by those around them telling them it counts as a sin to leave the groom's home once you're there, and you'll get shamed by everyone if you don't consent.

It's very fruitless for the elder lady lying on the ground to say that the girl will not experience happiness if she, her mother, and friend stepped over her. The girl was kidnapped and she did not know the kidnapper's family at all. How could they know what makes her happy?

Those policemen are interfering but they're trying to do it without escalating the conflict that's why they're greeting those men (whom they know very well for years living together in a small village). At the same time they're distracting them from those three, giving time to escape, I guess. I also think policemen might be unarmed.
