I love it when drummers tell a story with their solo. Like Steve Gadd, Peter Erskine, and definitely Abe Laboriel jr.

His drumming not only sounds good but FEELS just as good. He's like meditation put to drumming if that makes any sense.

I discovered ALJ only a few years ago. I think John Bonham would have loved him...

I’m not tying to draw any comparisons here, but Abe has always reminded me of what John Bonham would sound like now. More tools, a few more chops, but still that heavy, HEAVY POCKET. For me, there are times I enjoy solos that are basically rudiments played all over the kit, but this RIGHT HERE, is what people pay a drummer to do. Be confident. Have your own sound. Have some chops. Be professional and lastly, be a great guy. This is who Abe is. End of story👊🏻❤️👊🏻

Funny. He's always reminded me of what Jeff Porcaro would've sounded like if he was about 100 pounds heavier.

Wow, he's got some really eclectic influences, but heart warming to see Jeff Pocaro was his main one. I have been doing a major Jeff binge these last couple of years. Some of my drummer mates appreciate Jeff, but don't get him like I do. They're into choppy players galore (and there's no shortage of them) But Jeff said it best for me, "You have to be able to play with your average Joe" He wasn't a soloist (and I am sure he could have been if that was his desire) but he was very much a musical drummer, a band player with an enormous groove. Abe here, defo picked up a lot of Jeff over his young years. Loved his work with McCartney. Monster player in his own right!
