Marina, I know you are busy but my student would love for you to film a 4th grade flip through for her to see what is coming up next year. She really enjoys your perspective on the books and materials.

Will you be doing a similar video for 4th grade? We’re about to finish up 3rd and soon to be ordering 4th grade curriculum, I’d love to see a flip through or a way to organize that specific grade!

Thanks for this video, I am starting third grade with my son this year and 9th with my daughter. I have our books but havnt unboxed yet. I’m excited and a bit nervous both! I did abeka as a child in our missionary school, but havnt done it with my kids yet. I’m enjoying your videos!

Thank you! ...to be honest I am nervous about the third grade too...we did few lessons already & there seem to be a lot of work and more subjects per day. But i am sure we'll be able to make it work for us.

Receive a warm greeting! I am fascinated with your videos. I was looking forward to finding someone to share their experience with the Abeka material. I would like to know which kits you bought, why do I see a lot of books? Did you buy the most expensive kits or did you buy all the kits that appear according to the year of your children?

Love watching your videos! Can you comment on how you organize your 3rd year Abeka curriculum please? Do you tear out the pages and organize them by daily lessons, or do you keep all the books intact? I am new to homeschooling this year, so any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you for your time!

I simply pull out the pages for 10 lessons at a time so that I don't have to handle the books every day. I find it overwhelming to do all of it in one sitting
@ms.anonymousinformer2424 жыл бұрын
@@TheEllaTB I do that too (But I am not currently using that curriculum) . I keep a binder of all the subjects organized by tab and each tab is a course where it has about 10 worksheets for each subject/coursework. For same reason, so I am not handling tearing out pages daily. Doing it once every month or two is easier. I can move them to the completed work binder (or trash after taking a digital image of it,for documentation).

Do you have a video on how you prep for the year as in do you rip apart the text books and plan out the whole year by week, or do you take it day by day?
@KeikiPlayTime4 жыл бұрын
We did just take it day by day with ripping the pages out for the last 3 years, but this year I am doing something different, at least for my third grader. I will be mentioning it in my next video ;-)

we will be starting 3rd grade in August. I don't think my son will be ready for this math. Can I edit the math level?

We found it a bit too ambitious to complete one lesson in a day, so I made the goal to complete at least 6 subjects a day or about 3/4 of a lesson a day. Then we worked on weekends too so we weren't homeschooling all year. It was definitely grueling, but still an excellent curriculum. No way the kids do that much work in public school.
@KeikiPlayTime4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Are you talking about the thrird grade or Abeka in general? There are so many assignments in general 😳 and I see that the third grade will definitely take more time than the second.
@whiskersredwood4 жыл бұрын
The third grade. That's the only grade we have done abeka. Before that my son was in public school. I don't know how miss heindel did it, managing all those kids and teaching them all that material each day. She was there for all 170 lessons too. No substitute. Wish I had her energy.
@KeikiPlayTime4 жыл бұрын
@@whiskersredwood Yes, Mrs Heindel seems like a very nice teacher...so far I have been impressed with all of their teachers from K5 to 3rd grade.

Whiskers Redwood, this will be my sons first year homeschooling and I’ve heard Abeka is ahead compared to public school. How did you’re son adapt? My concern is with Math as they have yet to get into multiplication at the end of 2nd grade. The cursive hand writing as well they don’t teach that in public school here anymore.
@whiskersredwood4 жыл бұрын
@@CEcreations with the cursive writing, it's all about practice. His cursive was pretty atrocious at the beginning but it got better and better with practice. It took a bit of brute force at the beginning to make sure he followed the right path to make the letter. As they say in abeka, practice to perfection. With the math, he was able to keep up. I made sure of that. It took a lot of time and patience as I think it does learning math in general. He was doing common core math in public school in 2nd grade. I didn't think it was too much of a step up going to abeka 3rd grade math. We found that math and reading were by far most time consuming subjects of the lesson.

Do they try and relate subjects to each other? IE, reading about pilgrims in the literature class while they learn about them in history?
@KeikiPlayTime4 жыл бұрын
they do. Also all the holidays and season throughout the year are related to each lesson.
@ms.anonymousinformer2424 жыл бұрын
@@KeikiPlayTime Oh thanks for mention that. I was almost sold on considering buying this kit. But if they incorporate holidays into their leasons, that is far too religious as not everyone celebrates holidays. But some people may still want a scripture/bible based course. The holidays do not align with the bible as for what God wants from us, so that is why I say religion..as those holidays are church man made doctrines, and also are forms of worshipping the devil.

Hi! We just started homeschooling our 3rd grader using the video accredited program & it seems to be taking us about 6-7 hours a day to complete each days work. This seems like a lot to me. Is this a normal amount of time? How long is it taking others to complete a days work? Help very much appreciated! :)
@KeikiPlayTime4 жыл бұрын
3rd grade it tough especially if you are starting Abeka for the first time! But it should get better as you continue. Find somethings you can skip maybe break the days up in the beginning. Like do two days in one day. Don’t do all the seat work... I think it takes us 4-5 hrs...but we started Abeka in K5 and I think that helps. But don’t get discouraged. Keep going, it will get better 😊

I had my son do 1st grade reading(though he was in 2nd grade) to build up his speed, confidence and fluency, then in the middle of the year i started him on 2nd grade ,I would have him read 2 pages in the morning and evening .That has helped him greatly.He is now just about to start 3rd grade reading.
