You should live a little survival backpack for posterity. Fire starter kit,lantern, batteries, kettle, cups, food, tarp, coffee, tea, surgar, etc, just in case a poor soul gets stranded there some day.

I love watching campers do this kind of content! Nothing beats freezing your rear end off only to be rewarded with your own cozy shelter at the end. Just be wary of super strong winds in the mountains, especially when you're exposed to the elements like that. But your kit seems to resemble a lot of what other campers do in the same situation, so good on you for that.

🎉🎉 the beauty of the Allak in the rain is that you can pack yourself, your stuff and the inner tent in your backpack inside the outer tent while dry and then get in the raingear and go outside and strap the fly and poles on top❤

This is much more the tramping style of camp that I'm used to. I find it very interesting to see how modern equipment really works in these conditions. Yes to trying out different tents and equipment - always intriguing. The Zen Biv for example is something I once contemplated trying to DIY something similar - so seeing a fully sorted product in action is really good. And congrats on the first child - a whole new adventure in your future. FWIW my wife and I did manage a number of multiday tramps in the North Is (mainly around Te Urewera) with our first baby. The longest was 5 nights. It can be done - although it was a humungous pack I was carrying.

I always bring more food than i need just in case i get stranded in a storm like you almost did, because everyone regrets having to go out in it to tear down camp when its easier to wait till it passes.
