Emotive video of a time my parents would have reconised, if we only had people with wisdom in charge of our city our beach could be the same again. Cheers for the emotional trip.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to make these videos. Your video during the 60's part brought back memories of when my mum would take me to the beach during the summer hols. back then it always seemed to be sunny and warm, even wading into the sea, it didn't feel that cold! I can still recall going to the Beach Ballroom on a Saturday evening with my friends, that was when parents didn't worry about their underage teens going out, as long as you were home by 10pm. Again thanks for bringing back wonderful memories.

Lin Joy I wish I had those memories. I grew up here in Texas. We never got a chance to go to the beach much. My family would spend the summer barbecuing, and us kids playing water games with the garden hose and going to the drive-in movies on the weekends. When it was really hot we'd hang out in the mall all day.

Thank you. I can't imagine how someone from Texas has ended up watching 'a trip down memory lane ' in Aberdeen? But if you liked what you've seen have a look out for "Fittie" called 'Footed' it's at the end of the Aberdeen beach and was the first social housing in Aberdeen right the way back to the early 1800's. The BBC did a program about it called "The Fittie Squares" everyone there knew everyone else, most were related. The main source of employment was fishing or the boatbuilding yard. My mother was born and brought up there with her sister, The families there were nearly all called BAXTER, my grandfather had 8 brothers who all fished, he was a Customs and Excise Officer. My grandmother was told by her brother that "IF" she went ahead and married the man destined to be my Grandfather the family would disown her!! for marrying as they thought beneath their social class!! Her family were The HALL part of Hall Russell Shipbuilders, in Aberdeen. My mum was born in 1916 and my gran in 1882 !! my mum was well into her 40's when I was born, how times change! my fathers side of the family came from Inverness and before that Garrabost beside Stornaway, Lewis and further back to Usit both are the outer hebrides ! On my dad's side they are all MacLeod's (the same as Donald Trump's mother who came from Stornaway ! There is a tiny chance we could be related? who knows. I do know they are both of "The Wee Free Church" my dad's parents, were married in 1905 and were born 1868! Sorry I sort of got carried away there!! forgive me. If you do find any video's on KZbin about Fittie Aberdeen, you'll see how quaint looking the fishing houses are, they didn't look like that when mum would take me visiting family there as these were really poor hard working people who lived here, but since the advent the Offshore Oil Industry when money was king these small houses sold for vast sums of money, they are something to look at now and people come from all over to visit them and other ancient sites in Aberdeen. May I ask what caught your eye about watching this video? please. I have been very lucky and travelled extensively worldwide and encountered some extreme temperatures like 56 deg celsius! at Abu symbol in Egypt. Even in the great pyramid Cheops in Cairo in the "burial chamber" the heat is exhausting .

Lin Joy I would love to visit one day. Annie Lennox was born there and is my favorite singer who has stopped singing and is out saving the world. She campaigns for human rights and equal rights for women. How did she know I want equal pay, not more, just equal. she's my hero for doing what she does. Her dad worked in the fishing industry, according to an interview. BTW, I love Scotland. My vacation there was the best vacation I've ever had. I visited Edinburgh.

Edinburgh is a much 'prettier' city than Aberdeen, There they build with Sandstone, here we build with granite it's grey or pink in colour(Peterhead Granite - it's just about 30 min drive from Aberdeen) with spec's of slica which makes it sparkle in the sunshine. So it's also called "The Silver City" A fishing term you'd also here here is "a silver darling" that's a herring. Yes, I know Annie Lennox was born here but lived in Inverurie about 15-20 min drive out of the city. the BBC did a programme called "Who do You Think You Are?" which features famous people and traces their family history back as far as they can go. Annie was featured and some of her family came from Banff 40 miles north of here. I missed the programme, it may be on KZbin. I used to work with her cousin he's a Trauma Orthopaedic Surgeon, I was a scrub nurse at the time before I became an anaesthetic nurse. I hope you get to visit as it's always good to travel, how long ago did you visit? There is so much to visit in Scotland, but it all depends on what you want to see. In Grampian, that's the region Aberdeen is in we have more castles than anywhere else, for some reason? there isn't anything worth stealing! Further North is Inverness not far from where the famous Battle of Culloden was fought April 1746. The Duke of Cumberland who was in charge of the government troops stayed in Aberdeen for 6 weeks before the battle. Then headed north to Banff where my great uncle x5 was whittling on a stick at the river Devron, when spotted it was thought he was counting the number of troops, he was taken before the Duke (aka The Butcher Cumberland) and ordered my relative to be hanged from the nearest tree, this was 2/3 days before the battle. If you manage to get to the west coast the trip from Inverness to Ullapool is my favourite. I love driving down the west coast it's rugged, on the east coast it'd more picture on a tin of biscuits scenery! I'd love to visit New Orleans, Louisville as I think that's got some old history to it? And if your interested The Romans made 3 campaigns into Scotland, and even got as far as Cawdor, just a few miles from Inverness! Most Scottish people think that we were never invaded as The Picts stopped them! we also have lots of stone circles in the North East Scotland curtsy of the Picts, and lots of Viking connections too!

Lin Joy I visited Edinburgh with my sister and 3 friends. I loved visiting Edinburgh but would have liked to visit Aberdeen and Glasgow too. Part of us took the Highland tour and I'm so glad I did. It was the most beautiful country side I have ever seen. I thought WE had beautiful scenery but Scotland is truly awesome! I will visit Aberdeen though, hopefully next year, but it always takes me two years to save up to go and it's worth every penny. Y'all come to Texas when you get a chance.

That brought back memories. I learned to swim at the Beach Baths and went there several times a week. It was so sad when it closed. The "Uptowns" just didn't have the same atmosphere. Many a happy evening my friends and myself spent in Codonas (the carnival) on the Waltzers and other amusements during the school summer holidays. The other place we frequented was Donald's Ice Rink in Spring Gardens. Happy days gone forever. I left Aberdeen almost 30 years ago. My brother who still lives there says I wouldn't recognise it now. From what I've seen from recent pics and videos, Aberdeen has been completely ruined and the latest abomination is the "revamped" Union Terrace Gardens.
