Had a 'discussion' with someone a few months ago about Alex Ferguson being the best ever. He disagreed and said. "He can only do it with money and a big team, unlike Brian Clough." All I said to them was, "Aberdeen 1983 - beat Bayern Munich in the quarters and Real Madrid in the final. Who did Forest beat? Malmo?" : )

No one matches up to Ferguson for me, and I'm not a United or Aberdeen supporter. 13 league titles, 2 Champions Leagues and a handful of FA Cups at United. Built at least four great sides at United over 26 years and kept pace (and was still top dog) when the game was drastically changing more than it ever had before. Saw off challenger after challenger at different stages, and United were hardly world beaters when he took the job. Add to that what he did at Aberdeen beforehand, breaking the Old Firm dominance is Scotland seems genuinely impossible nowadays, and to then conquer Europe with them as well? He is the greatest manager of all time, not a doubt in my mind. Stein, Busby, Clough and Shankly would probably make up my top 5. Paisley it's more difficult to say because you could argue the foundations were laid for him, but then again 6 league titles and 3 European Cups in nine years is an unbelievable record for anybody.

It’s like comparing Ronaldo and Messi as far as I’m concerned. Both incredible leaders of men and they’re in their own category along with Bill Shankly

2-1 down listening to the radio at the Youth Club aged 14 and devastated that we were basically out, at least as far as most were concerned - I ran home as the final minutes ticked away. Radio on when I got home and it was 3-2 Aberdeen … I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! I can remember the goals and commentators remarks and tone to this day - I must have watched the TV highlights that evening. Unbelievable.

I often fight with myself to argue, what was Fergie's greatest achievement in football. Was it the 1983 season when Aberdeen won the ECWC, Scottish Cup and only lost the league title by one point, or the 1999 Treble winning season with Manchester United? The 1999 season was incredible, no doubt. The teams they beat to get to the final in Barcelona, and the challenge of Arsenal at home were an enormous challenge. Then look at a small scottish team, with a fairly small 1st team squad that in the end lost two great players towards the end of the season due to injury, and on the way beat arguably the two biggest European football sides of that time - Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Take squads, budgets... take everything into account, and I'll still put my money on the 1983 season being his greatest achievement

Ferguson winning the league with Phil Jones in the back is more impressive than winning the treble with legendary players. That United Squad would go on to finish 7th with a very good manager in David Moyes

another big disappointment. I'm the "normal" person. I have always respected Sir Alex Ferguson. He was the most popular football manager. Now it's just Alec Ferguson - the mind reader. This planet stinks. Everything is fake.
