Just back from the X7 Coastrider after 13 hours on the buses FULLY based on the KZbin above. The 0700 bus from Paisley, 0740 direct bus from Glasgow to Aberdeen, the 1105 X7 to Dundee, a short bus to St Andrews and X60 to Edinburgh and the usual buses back to Glasgow and Paisley again. I agree with everything in this KZbin. If based in the central belt, I would add on the St Andrews and the X60 bus. Excellent addition and I am sure Vloggers will give this route the attention it deserves. Thanx to the KZbin video for making this such a great day.

I was on the X7 yesterday. Most of the old vehicles have now gone and been replaced with standard inter urban double deck coaches of exactly the same type as Stagecoach contribute to the pool for the Megabus/City link ABZ to GLA and EDI service. But note that both yesterday and today at least one single deck bus was on an all day diagram. I let that go to travel on the next decker duty.

As a driver down here in Plymouth, that bus/coach you caught, they are lovely to drive. Aside from that, looked a good trip and some places I need to explore soon. As for the Leeds Whitby journey, (strangely couldn't make a comment on the actual video itself) Whitby is a lovely place that I want to spend more time in as well as exploring Harry Potter and Heartbeat land. Me and the missus and my daughters now want to take this journey probably from York. Looks stunning, on our to-do list and the quality of the bus is better than some I drive. Cheers Mark for the great videos. Looking forward to catching up with the rest of them now.

The Stagecoach East Scotland dayrider (just about a fiver more than the single) is INSANE value for money; unlimited travel on a full network with express routes all operated by coaches (including the X7 in its entirety) connecting many towns and cities. Yes, you can travel from Aberdeen to Glasgow or Edinburgh (change at Halbeath P&R) and back, exploring the towns and cities along the way, for just that £15 day ticket bought from the driver!

Working for Stagecoach in Manchester..luckily get free travel nationwide on Stagecoach services & other major operators in the UK too. Have done the X7 a fair few times whilst travelling up north. Lovely trip Mark. I have never travelled the route by bus but often the slow route is the more scenic. CityLink / WestCoastMotors service Glasgow to Campbeltown is a scenic route. A return journey could be flying back to Glasgow. Steve Marsh has a video of that. Or you could get the CalMac ferry back to Ardrossan (Summer only). Arbroath has interesting Abbey ruins and is associated with the Declaration of Arbroath, written there in 1320 before being sent off to Pope John XXII.

I have a confession to make Mark. Like those who protest about the misuse of apostrophes, I protest about folk misusing the place names Glen Coe and Glencoe. Glen Coe is the name of the valley. Glencoe is the name of the village near the foot of Glen Coe. No matter what you see elsewhere, trust me. I am sure that you will not make any such mistakes next month if travelling that way to Fort William. Enjoy the magnificent scenery in Glen Coe 🤣🏴.

The viaduct seen before Montrose as already pointed out is the "North Water" viaduct of the Bervie (Inverbervie) railway, a 12 mile coastal light railway opened in 1869, closed to passengers in 1951, and freight in 1966. On the road from Inverbervie to Montrose remains of the railway can be spotted easily on the left hand side of the road (It is worth getting off at St Cyrus for the magnificent long beach there). The history of the railway is complicated and was seen as a potential route to Aberdeen by the North British. The railway from Bervie later terminated at Montrose station. The portion from Montrose to just before St Cyrus is part of a pathway/national cycle route and is recommended. 🙂

Montrose is nowadays home to fellow travel KZbinr, Steve Marsh. The train option is if anything more scenic and a lot quicker. I think few take it for a longer journey and I wasn't surprised the front two got off at Stonehaven. You are correct Arbroath is a dump now. I was born & grew up there from 1949 & with a few years moving around with the RAF have ended up back here. The town's hay days were from the 1950s to the 1970s after that the place just died. There used to be a lot of medium industry with Mills & Factories & 2 very busy boat yards. We had a massive outdoor swimming pool just past Gayfield & yes it is the nearest football ground to the sea it's also the windiest & coldest. We're also famous for the Abbey where King Robert the Bruce & his nobles signed the Scottish Declaration of Independence. If you want to learn more just let me know. I've travelled that road from Aberdeen to Arbroath many many times over the years. I've enjoyed my afternoon with you journeying around Scotland & lucky enough to have visited everywhere you've been & then some as well as a lot of places in England & Wales. As a stagecoach mechanic (not up north) the issue with the usb is there is no indicators when inspecting to see if they’re functional or not, and there isn’t the time, or equipment to test each one individually. Not great on a journey like this, more of a minor annoyance while around town

Is the £2 bus fare not included in Scotland?

Why no concession travel.

No what I meant Alan was my ticket was a standard adult single with no concessions used. I’m sure if you qualified you could get a reduced fare. 😊👍

The middle seat at the back of the coach has a 3 point seat belt because these are exposed seats. Nothing to stop you rolling down the aisle if the driver has to brake hard

Yep, thought as much. There were a couple on the seats at the top of the stairs too 👍

@Let’s Make a Trip! The funny thing is, though, I have driven plaxton interdeckers, and stagecoach seems to be the only company that specifies 3 + 1 seats at the front.
