Are they also paying into their employees pension plans and fully maxing out the payment for their health care on a monthly basis?

You can also make good money and be home daily in food service but you will destroy your body in the process. I'm making $35 an hour at US Foods at the moment, my road test with ABF is next Monday, for a road driver position. I've been there for 5 years, and Im sick of digging for cases all day and walking 28 miles a week.

Thank you for your presentation. I think it is better going local! 90% of the time you have work all year round. Road drivers have to deal with so many issues like .. not steady work (working 2 days during the week during the winter season nov-april), you have to deal with snow storms, ice, fog, freezing fog, wind storms, blowing snow with zero visibility, break downs, you name it. You better save for at least 3 months during the good months in the summer or you will be broke or delinquent in your bills for the winter, due to not steady runs why? because of weather related issues. Local is most of the time paid by the hour. You will probably average 10 hours per day during the summer. Overtime after 8 hours. You are working in the city, if you break down they can rescue you pretty quickly instead of being in the wilderness waiting to be rescued for hours, it is nightmare during the winter, it is not pleasant. The big disadvantage (very subjective though) is dealing with customers and traffic. It is not perfect it has its issues, but I would rather be home everyday and work 90% of the time and be safer. Thank you for your point of you and stay safe!

Us teamsters need to remember if we keep asking for more we will lose contracts I've seen it happen. I've known concrete mixer drivers lose jobs because the company sold off ready mix trucks to another company but kept the plants that make the concrete and re hired at a different pay scale. The teamsters kept pushing more money and it caused a shake up.

Call ABF road drivers make 120 to 130 K a year in our pay is going up next year. Also we get the free healthcare nothing out-of-pocket also we get the pension. You got a remember all of that man plus we have job security. 110 K will barely even cover a normal life anymore

Dang what local are y'all at that's in California paying almost 9 an hour to the pension. I'm on the east coast in a much cheaper city. Thank God it's a low of 11 and a high of almost 16 depending on the local. Oddly enough the one that pays 16 is in an area with a bunch of small cheap towns. But ppl don't include the pension and medical care into their hourly salary for some reason which is a bonehead move. People who go to the doctors a lot are getting paid more than anyone else per hour in the industry.

I work for odfl and I love it. But they are hiring at abf in Atlanta for part time linehaul is it worth the risk to try to get on as a part time employee? What is the guarantee I will become full-time and if so how long if you had to guess would it take? I dont mind staying at odfl its an amazing company but I really want union pay to get ahead and pay my debt off and truly know I can retire from trucking.. I know freight is slow every where at this moment so idk if it's a wise decision to jump I have to be able to pay my bills and unfortunately not sure part time I'll be able to pay my bills.. also id like free health insurance for life thats a huge perk..

@MrByTheMile I agree 👍 💯.. Biden messed this economy up so badly I know freight is gunna operate differently this year in a way nobody is used to or understands how to predict it. It's going to he a weird odd year for freight. I think companies normal slow seasons it's gunna be slightly busier and there heavy season is gunna be slower then projected. Basically the way everyone is used to freight operating the complete opposite is going to happen confusing everyone. We shall see but I know its not going to be anyone's best year in the freight industry this year everyone is feeling and sharing the pain of bidenomics now..

I am glad that your happy about ABF, but I can tell you that when another NON -Union company puts towards your pension, plus has a Roth 401K plan and makes over 100k-130k a year , I would take that then a pension because when I retire I will not be taxed to high hog heaven when I retire. Pensions are taxed and on top of that u have your Social security which will get taxed high when you go over your marginal rate when I retire. The key to retire is to look poor on paper and have a Roth IRA and a Roth 401K. To each as own. Plus when your making a lot more you can have more cash stashed in the bank as well.

These days, people think union workers are either lazy, disrespectful, or entitled. People who want to be union think that they can do what they want, feel untouchable, and still have the nerve to demand for higher wages. Union used to mean a higher quality of workers providing a more professional service compared to scabs or cheap labor. Now, a union organization can't even organize the likes of Walmart or Amazon because you got all these shitheads thinking they're super union badass and they get what they want. At the end of the day, a business is still that. It needs to profit and it needs to do more than just stay afloat. Working the bare minimum and having no pride in your occupation are what holds businesses back from becoming bigger and better especially when you got a bunch of Hoffa wannabes running around asking for more and working less. Then they wonder why the gates close when they show up to work one day.
