Fact is, all of India fought for British Army whether Hindus, Muslims or Sikhs. Sikhs stood tall among them in majority due to their strength and bravery so they were always first preference for British Generals. In the Battle of Saragarhi, Sikhs were fighting for British Army but eventually the battle became about saving their land from invaders and above all, the battle was about their honour. British Commanders gave them the option to escape Saragarhi but the Sikhs refused. Now say, if the Sikhs would have accepted to escape the battle (infact consider the Sikhs never ever even joined the British Army), with the control/destruction of Saragarhi, Afghanis would have easily brought down Fort Gulistan and Fort Lockhart. Aftemath would have been, loot/plunder of cities, Mandirs, rapes, kidnapping young boys and girls as slaves etc. and then Afghanis would have returned back to their lands. Because that is what all their purpose would have been as seen throughout history. Ofcourse there would have been more battles but with the entry of Afghanis in India, the battle would have already been half lost for British and the Indians. British Colonized India but India always belonged to Indians. So no matter what empire you fought for, it was always for protecting your land, your country.

Very pertinent point, AbhijitJi. Even in Australia, where I live, Indians fight with Indians all the time. They do this to seek approval from Australians or to prove that they are "the better Indians", and so on. Indians also try to distance themselves from Indian traditions just to prove that they are "modern", cosmopolitan and get with the times. Until Indians decolonize themselves, appreciate the science behind out traditions and learn to respect themselves, this will keep going for years to come. Jai Bharat! 👍🙏🕉

Sry Abhijit.. The Sikhs were not fighting for Britain but fighting the people who had committed 2 holocausts against Sikhs and desecrated the Golden Temple. @@trevorjack8542 whatever you said doesn't make any sense neither historically nor logically but I am guessing it has something to do with your prejudice against ancient mythologies, presumably Hindu, Because it's wrong on many levels Allow me to give you a free history lesson this one time (Side Note - Islam is false religion) 1 - not all Afghans converted to islam voluntarily or as you put it "by choice" infact the majority of Afghans were forcefully converted to Islam and certainly not thousands of years ago lol, the Islamization of Afghanistan started in the late 10th century which is about 1100 years ago under the Abbasid invasion of Afghanistan who brutally subjugated the local populations into converting to Islam, as a matter of fact many Afghans naturally resisted and even the ones who had converted would revert back to their original religion after escaping and retreating to unconquered regions of Afghanistan, there were frequent religious squirmishes and riots, all of which was put to an end when Ghurids and Ghaznavids started to conquer the whole of Afghanistan and made everyone a Muslim 2 - The DNA of Pashtuns though deriving from one single monolithic central asian group 6000 years ago varies vastly and it more or less matches with the North Indian populations with regional variations in them ranging from Eurasian to Harappan, the only difference between them and Indians is that they are ethnically Iranic people who speak Iranian branch of Indo European languages while North Indians speak Indo Aryan, and understandably so considering they're descended from ancient Scythian people of Central Asia who had settled down in the southern most region of Asia which is today what we know as Afghanistan and northern Pakistan. Interestingly some of these Scythians also made their way into the Indian subcontinent eventually mixing with local populations and embracing Indian religions so technically Indians and Afghans aren't that different but there certainly exists a remarkable degree of genetic dissimilarity as modern day Pashtuns also intermingled with invading Turkic populations under various Turkic invasions 3 - what indigeneity are you talking about ? Afghan are not Pashtuns only, there are Turks, Tajiks, Uzbeks, Hazaras, Gujjars, Brahui and Nuristani people living there, all of them at one point either invaded or migrated their way into the region, those lands does not belong to Pashtuns only and they're certainly not indigenous, the Harappans and ancient Hunter Gatherer populations were the first to have settled down in what's today Afghanistan, infact it's the Vedas the most ancient Hindu texts that record the habitats of these ancient populations that says the Pakhta people or the Pashtuns live in mountains of northwest, it has been cited by numerous Afghan nationalists as the proof of their claim on the lands of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the very scriptures you called 'mythologies', also Gandhar the eastern most region of modern day Afghanistan was inhabited by Hindus which is evident from the numismatic, textual and architectural evidences, it is not just the Mythology that says that, it's History too 4 - what war are you talking about ? British did conquer Afghanistan and installed their stooge Shuja Shah as the Emir of Afghanistan and spared the life of Dost Muhammad Khan Barakzai consequently exiling him to India, it was only the intra British feuds that led to the downfall of British in Afghanistan but before retreating back to India they not only avenged the Afghan culprits responsible for killing British soldiers during their expedition, they also weakened Afghanistan into a very weak nation by dividing into two halfs by Durand line wherein the KPK was merely a North Western frontier of Indian Nation. 5 - Hindus and Sikhs weren't slaves of the British, British respected us both and termed us as Martial races, keep in mind, there were Pathaans too in British Army back then and if serving the Brits falls as slavery then Muslims were as much slaves to Brits as Hindus were 6. Your Modern Warfare and Early Human remark probably was born out of your desperation to distinguish Afghans from Indians where in they should be fantasizing about Invading and Killing Hindus like you rather than link themselves and possibly sympathize with us isn't it ? 1. There is no corroboration of Saragarhi from Afghan side. How many Afghans attacked Saragarhi is only a story given by Britishers. 2. Sikhs and Punjabi Hindus had history of barbaric attacks by Afghans. For them Afghans were more evil force than Britishers.So from their PoV it was not Indian fighting Indian.

From where slaves Hindus and Sikhs regiments were attacking Afghans instead of revolting against there true Masters British. Afghans push them back and many British slave regiment were gone to dust while they tried to Invade the Afghans country. Secondly even after when British Era of colonialism ended in cold war era after WW2 Afghan were again invaded by Soviet Union rest you know the history what happened to them Victorious Afghans. Afghanistan is a barren land but had enrich minerals to sustain themselves for next thousand years small population unless like you unstable population over 1.4 billion people and deceases kill people in India more than people dying in war torn countries all around the world. I disagree on your argument of Indians fighting Indians in Saragadhi, I don't think afghans considered themselves as Indians even at that time. Rule/invasion of afghans in india was a havoc on Indians (atleast after the fall of mughal empire) and there might be a reason for Sikhs to fight against Afghans thinking that if we lose this region then afghans will become powerful and they might attack and devastate India again.

sikh empire rose to power after seeing a decline in power of mughal empire and Afghan oppression and kidnappings that they did during their expansion eastwards. in the end afghans were able to defend themselves preventing a british takeover on their land but sikh empire alongside sind and balockistan got integrated into british raj. this is the reason sikha had to fight for the british. its called a regime change. if the company you are working in chnages their boss you stil have to listen to his orders. not to be rude but they way you phrased it in this video makes the audience feel like the soldiers killed the pastuns with personal hate. its not like they had a choice. in army your primary objective is all you have to to until its done or you die. #askabhijit sir i hope you can confirm what i said is true. i would appreciate if you make a video about thia topic giving more details and more perspectives

My opinion : What you said is true sir. But what if the Afghans were allowed to enter India? They were the most brutal people in centuries. Brutal than even Aurangzeb. They had caused the two Sikh massacres earlier(Ghallugharas)(People should see the pictorial representations of these two ghallugharas). And it was not like they would stop after taking back tge Pashtun areas. They had in the past conquered western India(Pakistan) and Kashmir. No reason to believe they would not expand again. Not justifying fighting for the British here. But fighting against Afghans was necessary.

@जय अमर परशुराम In 1881, Punjab was already under the British since three 3 decades. Secondly, Jallainwala Bagh event was conducted by two regiments : Baloch regiment and Gurkha regiment. And yes, Pashtuns ARE Afghans. Pashtuns attacked India multiple times. You have basic facts wrong. And let me also tell you, Sikhs were widely over represented in the number of revolutionaries in the freedom struggle, and also over represented in the INA. And if the Sikhs were not there in the 18th and early 19th century, much of northern India would have been now Pakistan because as I said, the Afghans were the most brutal people to come in centuries. I agree with your view point harpreet!! .. If Afghan would have won then.. It would be worst and india would have faced many repercussions for that even in present times.. Obviously they would expand after that.and what they could have done other religious people is we can't even think about it. And in modern times,who knows it would had been expanding version of Pakistan, in 1947 Pakistan could have claimed those regions also if pashtun won or Afghanistan wd have claimed.!!! The Sikhs lost against the British because they were betrayed by the Hindu generals who were Dogras, ( Muslims remained loyal to the Sikhs) . Sikhs have suffered greatly at the hands of Pashtuns , who often plundered Punjab, it’s not by chance if those Sikhs were ready to die for the British. I visited those areas in 1976 when I traveled to India overland and 1977 on the way back to Europe. It was possible to travel by bus from Peshawar to Kabul , trough the Khyber pass. I can say one thing, those areas were de facto independent. Pashtuns were all carrying arms, and didn’t think of themselves as Pakistanis . I remember that every bus passenger had to pay a tax to the local tribes, before entering the Khyber pass. On the way from Kabul to Peshawar, people were selling drugs , and changing money openly. When I asked about the border security, they replied. They are here to stamp your passport, nothing else. We are in charge here . I keep listening to plenty of nonsense from many historians. Far from condoning colonisation, it’s clear that if the British were able to colonisé India , it was because it was not a country. There's a famous saying in Punjabi “Khaadha peeta lahe da baaki Ahmad Shahe da” (what belongs to you is whatever you have eaten and drunk, rest belongs to Ahmad Shah). Ahmad Shah was one of the most infamous Afghani invaders. This saying developed because of the constant invasions by Afghanis in winters every year. They plundered, looted, raped women and went back. Sikh Empire put a stop to it and for 50 years there were no invasions from Afghanis. I just mean to say Afghanis or pashtuns were never Indians. Due to the atrocities afghanis had done in the past, Sikhs never had any affinity for them. I don't agree with this video. This guy seems to have a lot of knowledge and is definitely well read. I have limited knowledge but still I am very neutral and objective in whatever I read. I have seen some of his videos and I do get a feel when it comes to videos related to Indian history he has a certain bias towards a particular segment of society. There's always some grey and nothing is white or black. If I have to trust someone at face value, I need to be sure he is neutral and giving me objective information. For instance - in one of his videos he says Ashoka had already converted to buddhism from Hinduism before he annihilated Kalinga. Reason given - he was already reading about Buddhism before that invasion. It just sounds stupid and just corroborated by belief that he has an agenda and does not provide objective information. I have read about Mughal Empire and totally agree that rulers like Jehangir, Aurangzeb were total assholes so I agree with that aspect but Akbar as far as I have read was a fairly good ruler and even started his own religion 'Dīn-i Ilāhī' which encompassed good qualities from all religion. Even Birbal adapted that religion. Been a Muslim it would totally have been blasphemous but he believed in it (This to me is an example of a good king, who cares for his people irrespective of their religion). So this is what I mean by being objective, just a small example. Just saying don't take this guy at face value and do your own research as well.

sikhs didnt help indians fight for the revolt because indians would make mughals their emperor and sikhs knew their history of persecution by mughals, and if they today help mughals become their king would they betray themselves? another thing that almost all the british seopys who revolted were purbias from bihar and bengal, who were main reason of conquering the sikhs by treachory of dogras and smart moves of taking out supplies of sikhs, and bribing sikh general. sikhs too revolted before with king of multan and bhai maharaj singh ji and also you should know about ajnala massacre, sikhs were also involved.

Sir you are incorrect . Calling pakhtun as Indians is like calling Chinese as Nepali’s . Pakhtuns have always invaded India and killed and stolen from India, many times these pakhtuns attached they took off with Hindu women who were later sold in the markets of ghazni as commodity . These pakhtoons later attached the golden temple because the Sikhs fought them while they were retreating and rescued the women . And hari singh nalwa spent his entire life fighting these tribals and till date their children are afraid of the word haria . Only the Sikhs could push back these afghans and could overpower them in their own territory.

Good analysis but there is nothing terribly tragic about Indians fighting Indians in this instance. We have done it for thousands of years. The fact that it was under the British isn't particularly more unfortunate. I don't think the Pashtun tribesmen northwest of the Durand Line considered themselves Indians even then. They probably have not for a thousand years or so. The Pashtuns southeast of the Durand Line consider themselves Indians, Pakistanis now. These are the people Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan fought for, not Afghanis. There is a political division between Pakistani (Indian) Pashtuns and Afghan Pashtuns but you cannot really know of it until you have lived in northwest Pakistan.
