Lata ji had revealed in an interview with Javed Akhtar that when she was recording for the songs of this movie Jaya Bachchan used to come daily in her recording. She was confused why she was coming daily in the recording so she asked Hrikesh Mukherjee about this and she came to know that Jaya Bachchan's character in the movie was a Playback singer so due to this she came daily. After watching the movie Lata ji astonished when she saw her acting in the song "PIYA BINA PIYA BINA" because she had performed her gesture like her as she wore a big bindi on her forehead, a broad border sari and she took her anchal(sari) as Lata ji used to do. ♥️♥️💕☺️😊

Wept like a baby. I felt I received a kind of healing as I watched this movie. Everything is so real. Our fears, insecurities, our pride, stubbornness, all get in the way of our true joy. As a youngster I did not watch this movie. I was 13 then. I watched it at age 59 and I wept like a baby during most of the scene. Jaya Bachan is an incredible actress and she sacrificed everything to raise a family. That makes her an incredible woman and mother. She has already proven herself. She has nothing more to prove. But I do hope she does more movies so we can see that precious gift within her.

This movie was " "......Don't know what to fill between the quotations. Rare are the films which makes you cry..... and that emotion is a mix of both sadness and happiness at the Same time. This movie had all the emotions that a human goes through; be it greed, jealousy, love, hatred, friendship, respect, family values etc. The background score, the melodious music, heart touching lyrics(sad we don't have these type of lyrics now.....Why? Because people now want an "International feel") and the acting was out of this world. Lucky we are Indians and have the grace to witness such masterpiece not found anywhere in the whole world. This movie is close to my heart along with some others and yes they are all classics; and I can't find any movie of this generation that are so impactful and leave you with thoughts to ponder upon, with respect to your life, its philosophy and its values. Lastly these type of movies with these kind of aura will not be made in the future(we all know that). Sometimes I wish I teleport myself into these movies and feel the vibe!

This year, 2023, will be fifty years since this movie was released. I still remember watching it in the cinema when it was released in 1973. I enjoyed it then and I still enjoy it now. A story that has a meaning that is applicable even today. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri - both perfect in their roles as are Bindu and Asrani.

Watched this film, today, on the night of 12th June 2024.. it was recommended to us (students) by our college teacher who was teaching us feminism. I am in deep love with classical music so naturally I enjoyed this movie. Amitabh ji and Jaya ji 🫡👌 Now when it comes to the plot and story, this movie is a genuine masterpiece. This film was made in 1973 and shows the rising stature of women and resulting problems in their private sphere. Uma (played by Jaya Bachchan) is better at singing than her husband Sudhir (Amitabh Bachchan). Sudhir motivates a reluctant Uma to sing on her own and take contracts. However their personal relations took a blow then her success increases manifolds than her husband's. My analysis of this film: Sudhir was a modern man, he seems to be not much bothered with traditions and rituals (as also shown in the movie) and he motivated Uma to join her in his performances and later when directors approached Uma to sing solo, he was the one who convinced Uma. Uma was reluctant throughout. Multiple events operated simultaneously like Uma getting bigger contracts, awards and Sudhir was sidelined. All these resulted in Sudhir developing anger. He was himself not aware of what has happened to him. His anger first bursted on his friend (or manager) and later in Uma. Uma was really like a "Devi". Apart from getting so big contracts and more pay than Sudhir, she was perfect in performing her household duties. She was so polite and caring to her rude husband who was not even bothered to look for her during her pregnancy. Music was their life, bread and butter and everything for them. But it was Uma who was ready to sacrifice her career and singing for him, although Sudhir wanted her to continue but his tone and behaviour was what pained Uma. Later in the movie we saw that Uma lost her baby while giving birth. All this could have been avoided had she stayed with him and operated in a good hospital. All these incidents made Uma emotion-less, she was engulfed in depression. I think we all should understand what's the point of our anger. Although these things are much complicated in case of husband and wife. But both should be given equal opportunities to express themselves. And if you feel that in future there will potential clashes, better don't marry or prepare your mind accordingly. In the movie, I feel, Sudhir did right in marrying Uma, they both were made for each other and "music" was adhesive between them. But Sudhir should have excelled in his pop singing rather than starting classical singing with Uma. Fame, name, money everything will disappear with time, only love and peace will prevail and if your partner is as sweet as Uma, showering anger would a sin.

What a classic, indeed. Amitabh and Jaya both were flawless in their roles. But this film should be watched for Bindu’s role. She has few dialogues but expresses a horde of emotions by her eyes only. Alas, her potential was not fully exploited by then directors. She was wasted in cheap vampish roles.

Yogendra ji, same for Asrani. He is known as a comic actor, but here he played such an important supporting role. When Amitabh says, "mat bhulo kee ye mera ghar hai", the expression of the reply "main sach mein bhool gaya tha ye tera ghar hai" and then the phone rings he thinks of picking it but does not. Impeccable acting!
