i have stopped watching trailers completely, but i still couldn't avoid the fact that they said this was a vampire movie. i want to go into most movies not knowing anything. it's hard to avoid things like that nowadays, but by god i am trying haha. i became a fan of Dan Stevens because of the 'Legion' tv show which never gets talked about enough.

The thing with Radio Silence is they always mess up the ending. The last time I didn't have sour taste (of wasted potential) in my mouth after watching their film was with Ready or Not. *SMALL SPOILER ALERT* The "girl power" endings in Scream 5 & 6 at least made little sense but in Abigail, no way. They completely twisted the characters. Why would Dan Stevens act that way? I'm pretty sure I am a minority here but I believe they should try new writers because as directors they have a lof of potential. Also the f*ing one-liners by Dan Stevens, why so many? Someone tried to emulate Shane Black.

I saw this twice because I enjoyed so much the first time. On the second I did see all the cons you mentioned and I also think they mis cast the guy that plays the muscle guy. I thought his acting sounded like he was reading from a cue card and that is not even close to a Quebec accent and he was a bit to effeminate for me. The rest of the cast was great especially all the female actresses.

Loved me some Dan Stevens in this. 👌🏽 The first hour I was thinking it was a disappointment because it just felt drawn out. Then - the last 45 minutes was total horror fun. ❤ I loved the synchronized dance (you know which part I’m talking about). Kathryn Newton is a gem. 💎 When it streams, I’ll skip to the last 45 minutes for sure. Great review!

I was also thinking it could have been right up there with ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ if the marketing was handled better. I get that they want to put all the best moments from the movie in the trailer to put people in seats but I think we’ve proved by now that extremely vague trailers do just as well with that and make the movie more enjoyable.

The issues people have with the new scream movies (which both have positive critics AND audience scores across the board) is that they were judged with a magnifying glass most movies aren't judged with. This movie had the same types of issues but they really aren't big deals.

Just when you think a new creative team will do something new they....just do the same thing, only worse. And my god...the plot armor. I can't get past how many time the "core four" and Gail Weathers have died. I think they actually have Jason beat. I just expected better out of Radio Silence since Ready or Not was so damn good. And yeah I have to throw this in there, Samantha tasering that frat boys balls should have landed her a felony charge.

Although not Universal, when Sixth Sense came out the advertising spoiled the twist for me. The film does't reveal what the title refers to. until the half-way point but it was all over the advertising. Therefore right after that opening scene I was like “Oh he's dead then“. You would imagine people would learn from shit like that.

I enjoyed the movie a lot Mike!! I remember only seeing the Abigail trailer once like months ago but I do remember when I first saw it I immediately said I basically just watched the entire movie. It would have been awesome if they would have saved the vampire reveal. And Dan Stevens!!!! That's all I need to say. Love him!!!! I did read an interview the other day with Radio Silence. They said that everything we saw in the movie regarding Angus Cloud's character was what he filmed. They didn't do any CGI or anything like that.

*SPOILERS INCLUDED!! AVOID IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE* I found this movie to be enjoyable - I liked it. However, there are some things that I didn't like. 1. The trailer spoiled a good portion of this film. For a second there, when people started dying, I was actually starting to believe that we may have had an outside player introduced, just because I don't like the idea of the girl slipping out of her cuffs and killing a dude before returning to the bedroom to place herself back in her restraints only to reveal herself as a vampire the next time she is confronted. Why even put on the facade instead of just disappearing and inciting fear amongst the group? Well, obviously the answer is: "because movies." 2. I didn't necessarily like the purpose behind trapping the people in the house, especially after Giancarlo Esposito reveals himself as being a vampire only to offer Frank a deal later to kill Abigail and her father to rule the criminal empire. So, when the movie switches gears and now it's Melissa Barrera and Abigail vs Frank, I started to veer away from enjoying it. 3. The cameo of Matthew Goode as the father to me just felt like a waste of time. He shows up after the action has concluded, has a few lines of dialogue that end with the corny "you better get out of here... It's almost time for dinner." And that's the extent of his character. 4. The random team up between Joey and Rickles also had no worth and left me thinking, "What was that all about? He trusts her because she can read people, which also was a random thing put in the movie just to give exposition to the characters." 5. The ending. Not to be cynical because at least these writers are established and I'm just at home working a 9-5 rather than pursuing my passion for filmmaking, but is the ending kind of a copy and paste of Ready or Not? Our blood-soaked hero emerges from a hellish nightmare, sits down, and places a cigarette/sucker in their mouth? Why was Melissa Barrera painted as a badass in this closing sequence? She got her ass kicked during the final fight, and she wasn't truly involved in any of the key fights, other than assisting Abigail in driving a stake through Frank's heart. She could've, and probably should've, died a thousand times in this movie but she leaves the movie, sucking on a sucker she's been preserving, and has the stoic badass look. She was pinned to a wall with a fire poker and she wasn't even the one to pull her free, it was the very guy who pinned her! This movie had the possibility of driving a strong 8 or a 9, but by the end it started pumping the brakes too hard and it skidded into landing a 7 out of 10 for me

I've watched this twice now, and it's quickly becoming a future top favorite of mine. It's definitely one of my favorites of the 2020s for sure. I dont like to add a newer film in my top 100 list without some time being passed that way i can see how has it aged, how do i feel about it now compared to when i first watched it and then that gives me a more genuine honest and least biased list that feels earned but Abigail was a blast. Outside of Scream VI Melissa Barrera as an actress always leaves me underwhelmed. I really like her as a person, and she seems like the sweetest and coolest person, but i always feel like she leaves a lot to be desired. Scream VI is the only performance, so far that i thought she was amazing. I do like her here much more than i do Scream (2022), but i genuinely feel she was playing the same character here. She was just completely devoid of emotion and very monotone the entire movie, and i would say that's the character, if it wasn't something i saw her do in Scream (2022) I wish you would've talked more about Alisha Weirs' performance as Abigail. I personally had no issues with Abigail talking because Alisha was able to just completely transform into what is perceived to be this sweet little innocent girl who becomes this menacing manipulative calculating monster who still shows compassion and sympathy and understanding towards ome character. Her performance sold the movie. Without her performance and dedication to really selling it and making it so believable, this film wouldn't have worked. You're one of the only reviewers that didnt praise or mention her performance. I was blown away. Alisha Weir and Julia Butters. Remember those two names because those are two young future oscar winning star actresses just beginning their careers. Dan Stevens gave the second best performance in the movie. I'll be honest, i had no idea who he was at all, but after watching him in this, now i want to go back and watch his work because he turned what could've been a very one note character into so much more and he just killed it. Angus Cloud is another actor you didn't mention. R.I.P. Angus, but he stole every scene he was in. I genuinely wish he would've been in the film more. A tremendous talent gone way too soon. Kevin Durand has always been great. This was a great showcase for him. He was a standout in Real Steel. Dudes is just an awesome character actor that i hope just continues to get more work. Kathryn Newton has found a niche, and she's becoming thee scream queen. I loved her in Freaky. She was great in Lisa Frankenstein. Here she was, good, and has a great scene towards the end. Giancarlo Esposito, i wish got more screentime, but he literally can have the smallest of screentime and make the most of it. He continues to impress. I remember seeing him in a film called Derailed, and he was a nobody at the time and even in that film he had a very rare presence and how he can deliver lines in the most calming natural way but bring so much to it. In my opinion, this is far and away, Radio Silences best film. Its their best cast. Best performances. Best direction. Best script. Was it perfect ? No! They still have some of the same flaws, but they are improving with each film they do, and i recognize that. But what a fun film. I'm mad at myself for not seeing it in theaters.

I wonder what my experience would have been like if I didn’t see the trailer. :( I ACTIVELY avoided the trailer as much as I could but every movie I saw at the theater recently showed this trailer as a preview and even with trying to look away and close my ears there was pretty much no way to avoid realizing that Abigail is a vampire with the trailer and online discourse.

Just like Scream VI, I expected a lot more but ended up disappointed mainly because of the rushed and underwhelming third act. However, I wasn’t as bothered by Abigail’s 3rd act since characters actually die and the performances by a certain character wasn’t over the top cartoonish. I give it a 3.5/5. I thought Renfield did the vampire horror comedy much better

Maybe its because im one of those people who could care less about spoilers and really kind of actively can't stand people who cry about spoilers for things that have say been out for 6 months or more, personally its not that daunting to take face out of screen and stay off the internet when it comes to avoiding them. Alot of things specifically on the internet have titles that require being clicke.. But studios don't care, they're generally trying to make a trailer that might pull the interest of everyone and anyone who might see something and say "ooh I have to go see that". They don't care about the horror fans, comic fans, sci-fi fans etc. they care about a general audience who usually could careless about spoilers

I just finished watching Abigail and holy shit this movie was awesome like I'm strongly considering wanting to watch it again very soon, this might be my favorite movie of the year so far also for me this is probably my favorite movie by Radio Silence and second is Ready or Not then Scream 6 then lastly Scream 5 but really all of Radio Silence's movies are amazing 🧛🦇🩸, my main complaint is that there wasn't enough Vampire world building I love vampires and learning lore about vampires and the movie didn't give me enough in my opinion I wanted morr worldbuilding 😂

I wish so much I hadn't known about this being a vampire ballerina movie! But it was just too hard not to hear about it somewhere. Knowing radio silence was doing a monster movie, seeing the picture of Abigail, and because I watch movie youtuber channels. It definitely got brought up multiple times by various people. It would've been awesome to really experience Abigail as a kidnapped scared little girl though. But as soon as shit starts going down it made the scenes not tense since I already knew who was doing it. Similar to when they go to check on her since I already knew and was waiting for her to turn. I am anticipating whatever other projects radio silence does though and hope Melissa does more horror and team ups with them again. It would be awesome if they did another horror movie with Melissa and Samara together in it!
