When you ride your horse on paving or cobblestones (typically in St. Denis), no matter your speed, the cores of your steed will drain faster. This illustrates that this type of surface is not very suitable for horse's articulations and their musculoskeletal system in general.

When looting horses, they are less likely to kick you when their body is relaxed, head down and not swishing their tails. This mechanic is one of my favourites. You can pat the horss and see its head drop as it relaxes. Looting horses is one of my favourite activities just because I enjoy watching and reading their body language.

One thing I noticed today was that usually my horse, Spoon, stays where I leave him if I am wandering about on foot, but today when riding we came across a pretty gruesome scene, I got off to investigate and Spoon didn't stay put, he followed me until we had left the site behind. It reminded me of how pets sometimes look to their owners for comfort/protection in frightening situations.

You actually missed a very important one! I don't know online, but when playing history-mode, as long as you bond with the horse if you pet him while galloping him, his running out energy will increase and it will last a longer time. It'll be a little bit if you're in a low-level bond, but it'll increase notably if you're in high or full-level bond, acting as the respect that horse has for the player and how it wants to please them. I find this one a very beautiful one. ~

@mochimacaroon400
@mochimacaroon400 2 жыл бұрын
When you do this bareback the sweat will form all across the horses back too. If I remember correctly, the area a saddle coveres won't have sweat even if you take the saddle off. Downright insane the amount of detail they have added for the horses alone.

Someone's probably brought this up but I expected the fact that horses actually have realistic body language to be mentioned because its super cool and is an actual useful and practical mechanic. If you want to loot a stranger's horse, especially bounty hunter horses, you can watch their ears and head and they'll actually start tossing their heads and moving their ears back as they get more and more agitated. They'll also do those little agitated steps like they're trying to move away.

If you gallop a horse consonantly (say Rhodes to Valentine, I think was when I figured this out) they will lather and sweat, this can be seen barely under the saddle, without a saddle, or even in their stalls at the stable, I think it’s a cool little detail :)

Another detail about the personalities me and my friends noticed with our horses is that when stationary some are more fidgety than others and the way they fidget can vary! Some will kick the ground or shake their head more etc. Also the mechanic for walking backwards is the same to riding backwards on a real horse, pulling on the reins and kicking, another amazing attention to detail!

One of the I think directors in charge of essentially making the horses come to life in RDR2 was married to a horsewoman and had a daughter who loves horses - i think it really shows that this game had input from real horse people! They’d ask people with horses to send them videos of horses galloping uphill to hear how they sounded, like how their breathing was laboured etc! It’s amazing

Theres this one detail that is my absolute favorite, i think its for collector role, at first if you want to pick flowers or any plant off the ground you'd have to pick it up yourself, BUT with the collector role as your leveling up, your horse can pick up any plant off the ground while you are mounting it instead of you getting off the horse and picking it up yourself, its just a cute little detail!

Additional small fun fact about player owned horses for both Singleplayer and Multiplayer: there's chance for players horse to lay down on it's own while being idle, for example when player is using or relaxing at wilderness camp or even simply being idle while off the horse Sadly as far as I know there's no way to trigger this faster, you'll have to wait for this one btw very nice video showing the details, keep up the good work and as somewhat veteran player (just only about 1k hours in this game overall... give or take) there was nothing new to learn for me

I knew all of them, as I love red dead and I love horses even more- one of my favorite things is Arthur’s ability to do a flying lead change x’D he’s incredible at it! Also, as you bond with your horse, you can do little trick gates. My favorite one is “horse drifting “, which is just essentially having the horse walk sideways like the walking horses do In shows. Pretty cool! Also! I had a suspicion about the horses and their personality’s but I had no idea it was true! My thoroughbred Calypso is very antsy, and refuses jumps pretty often (although I’ve been practicing with her and surprisingly she’s getting better). Very scared of predators and gunfire. My American standardbred is a lot more brave and level headed, and she’s a natural at jumping. Super cool.

RDR2 is my favourite game out of all the games I have played in my life. The attention to detail (not only to horses) is just breathtaking. One thing I didn't see in this video is the fact that you can see the horses' muscles working. Especially on the hind legs (I htink there is a shot in your vid where it's visible). And it gets more pronounced when the horse is malnourished. Also, you can see the spine and ribcage more clearly when you don't feed it regularly and the hindlegs/hips look less round (looking from behind). Horses also get nervous when the game weather turns stormy with thunder and lightning. And leaving your horse dirty for a long time will negatively affect the health bar. This game is just fascinating

I really wonder how many floats the developers put into these horses. As in how many values go up with specific interactions. I know bonding plays a big role even in how close your horse approaches you when you whistle. Level 1 horses tend to just stand put a little further away while Level 4 horses come a lot closer. One of my horses in online was super skittish around bears and wolves, bucking me off pretty fast if I didn‘t spam pat it and move away. Today it really doesn‘t care anymore, I can get in really close without much of a problem. The thing is this had nothing to do with the Level of bonding, because it was still the same at Level 4. I really wonder if there are some kind of hidden mechanics happening with just positive reenforcement or if I‘m imagining things.

All my life I've grown up around horses, I've been rolled on, stomped on, bit, kicked, had a horse deliberately stand on my foot refusing to move, crushed between a stall and a horse, with intent from the horse 😂 and finally yes I've stepped in it 😂‼️ when I see this in Rd2 and NPCS being dumb around horses I find it hilarious, thank you for another wonderful gift, Semper Fidelis, Oorah Carry On and Beyond ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😂😀💥💥💥💯💯💯‼️‼️‼️

6:22 when I figured this out I found out it’s a decent method for stabling 2 horses at once it can get a little frustrating at times since the temporary horse feature gets in the way a little but it still has helped me get a few of my horses

couple years late but one of my favourite details is how the horses get foamy around the saddle after you really push them in a gallop for a while :-)

i absolutely love that horses have personalities. racehorses are usually more skittish but my beloved blood bay thoroughbred Blaze once brushed flanks with a grizzly and didn't toss me.

one thing i have so far found to be true for all horses in the game is that they hate uncontrolled fires. shoot out a lantern and the structure it was on catching fire will lead to a panicked flight reaction (unless you're riding it, then it will just show its discomfort). same goes for burning bodies and pretty much any fire that isn'ta camp fire or lamp. also, you don't need to lasso a temporary horse to lead it. simply whistle for it and it will stay on your heels. it's a great help to make hunting trips more lucrative, as you can now carry two big game pelts. it usually makes more sense to ride the temporary horse and have your main horse follow though, as your main horse is usually faster and like that you don't risk accidentally taking off and leaving the other horse behind. also, every step riding a horse helps bonding with it.

I love how in some areas in the early mornings, steam will come off the horse’s body’s. I love this game!

Another thing I noticed is that if you gallop for an extended period of time while covering long distances on the map, your horse will actually produce lather. This is especially visible in darker horses and will disappear as they dry off or if you brush them 😁 I love this game so much!

Horses drink too! Its not easy to see it but sometimes if you stop near water theyll go and drink. I saw horses in Valentine in the paddocks drink and mine too when i was hunting near a river

I can confirm that the horses have personalities! I got a turkoman and i got it to level 4 bonding but it was a very skittish horse especially near gunshots and wildlife! With the smallest threat it was throwing me to the ground! So i decided to get another one just to try! I bought the same horse, same coat and both are females! The 2nd horse now at lv 3 bonding is fearless compared to the first! I was standing next to a bear and it didn't throw me down! Same with the wolves! :) i really find this fascinating

I knew all of then besides the stallion's bits shrinking in the cold! I don't usually pay attention to the genders of the horses I get since I usually just get them because they are pretty and I want a nice horse (and usually end up sticking with that horse for months at a time), so I've never noticed it!

One very interesting detail is that when riding at full speed for a long time, there will be salt build up around the saddle from all the sweat that was under the saddle.

I remember once I had just tamed a wild Mustang and a pack of wolves attacked us, the Mustang bucked me off but my dear and loyal Paula did not flinch and I could mount and scape while shooting them off. Had she been more flinchy I would have been killed for sure.
