Lead guitarist Kanami Tono became one of 10 musicians on the planet who got her own signature model guitar from PRS. The only female and the only Japanese person in this elite group that includes Carlos Santana and John Mayer. A big deal indeed.

Thank you for the lovely reaction, and welcome to my fav band of the past 30 years. This is a unique band that has a large back catalog of exceptional music that's kind of all over the place genre-wise. Their songwriting is creative and fearless, and might have you wondering whether you're listening to the same band at times; this, however, allows them to make even their classic rock songs sound modern and fresh. Some of their music sounds radio-friendly, some not so much. If you want to hear a great example of their instrumental and songwriting talent, I'd recommend their instrumental "From now on" (the band includes instrumentals in their live shows to rest their vocalist). If you want something like "Alone," then I recommend "Choose Me." If you want live, then "Puzzle" or "Hate." If you want something recent and beautiful, then "Forbidden Tale." This band literally has so many songs to recommend that's it's kind of ridiculous; yes, they are that good. All of these are posted on their YT channel. I'd like to mention that Kanami Tono is the lead guitarist of the band (and the band's songwriter), and she plays PRS guitars. A week ago she became the first Japanese musician to be awarded her own signature guitar from Mr. Paul Reed Smith himself (who traveled to Japan to hand it to her). Was a terrific honor for her and the band.

I had to check it out myself, since I've seen Orianthi (Alice Cooper, M. Jackson) got one too. Seems right since she got her own LE. Since I don't see neither Kanami nor her is on the "Signature list", but only on the official list. I would guess a few guitarists get their own LE. But becoming a Signature Artist is slightly harder, and might be related to how many of the LE's are being sold. So I would guess: If the Kanami models sells out and there seems to be a demand, they might push her up to "SA" together with Santana and John Mayer?

This genius band formed in 2013. The maid attire is part of their brand and it is all about Miku, the ryhtm guitarist, lyricist and backup vocalist of the band who used to work in a maids café before creating the band. Their clothes have evolved since the time of this song and nowadays only Miku remains as the regular keeper of the maid tradition, while the other members have progressively gone more gothic like. And yes, you are darn right about Saiki the lead singer, she has such a unique voice signature that I could recognize in a second. Kanami the lead guitarist is the musical composer genius creating all the band's music since 2013 with a 130+ songs catalog up to now. Misa the bassist and Akane the drummer are doing wonders involved in the early creative process with Kanami the genius composer.

Um...ah...one small correction. The first song, ironically this one, "Alone", was the first song which was written by the Maids which Management approved, in 2016. Saiki (lead singer) says in this song..."3...2...1...GO!" and boy did they ever. And Kanami compositions with the rest of the Maids, haven't looked back since. Their latest album "Epic Narratives" is well...EPIC! Try "Forbidden Tale" OMV from this brand new album (released 9/25).

For a lot of their earlier videos, Akane (the drummer) is basically only shown doing her best imitation of Animal from the Muppets. Later they realized that her smile lights up the darkest night, and you see her a lot more clearly. I hope you'll dive deeper, it's so very worth it.

@@Abigirl_Reacts Well the most obvious example of "they only show Akane when her head is down, thrashing about" is the MV for "Real Existence," though the official live of that song is overall, I think, a more entertaining experience. People will tell you "always go for the live." That's not STRICTLY true - some of their official live videos have "just ok" to "kinda crappy" audio mixes. "Dice," "Blooming," "Rinne," and "Thrill" are probably better enjoyed via their OMVs. Make no mistake, though, BAND-MAID are tremendous live performers.

Yaaaayy! you finally got to Band Maid. You are gonna be impressed. This was their first self written release. They had to make this one more main stream to get the record company to give them more creative inputs. You are gonna be blown away by what they can do now. Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) - rhythm guitar, backing and lead vocals (2013-present) Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) - lead guitar, backing vocals (2013-present) Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) - drums, percussion (2013-present) Misa - bass, backing vocals (2013-present) Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) - lead vocals (2013-present) I recommend "Domination" live by them to get a better feel for their hard rock style as an appetizer.

Thanks for finally reacting to the greatest band in the world! The rhythm guitarist, Miku, is the second vocalist and founding member. They formed in 2013 when Miku was working at a maid cafe and had an idea to combine the maid aesthetic with a hard rock sound. She found the lead guitarist, Kanami, who is now the main composer. Kanami recommended a drummer she had played with, Akane, who recommended a bassist, Misa. They played as a four piece with Miku as lead singer, but she felt they needed a stronger vocalist so they found Saiki. Their songs do not all follow the same style, but combine elements of rock, metal, pop punk, jazz, and pop. As the Maidiacs say, Band-Maid's genre is Band-Maid. To fully grasp their talent you need to check out their live performances. Some recommendations: Live videos - Play, Domination, Freedom, Don't You Tell Me, Puzzle, and Hate? OMVs - Bubble, Dice, Daydreaming, Choose Me, Blooming, Protect You, and Shambles Honestly you could just pick any of their videos on their KZbin channel. Thanks to BM4Life for requesting our Maids.

I always try to clarify that they didn't need a stronger vocalist, but maybe a more intense vocalist. Miku has a very sweet voice, and it wasn't naturally well suited to the kind of music they wanted to make. But she's an excellent singer, and has a larger range than Saiki, able to take high and low harmonies, and sometimes she'll do both in like one phrase. I think she does that in Forbidden Tale.

Why Band Maid is the best rock band on the planet. First their music, obviously. These ladies have genius level Talent on their respective instruments and vocals. Kanami is the Einstein of Rock and Miku is the Shakespeare of lyrics. So many great bands from the beginning of Rock till now have had songs that were truly bad. Band Maid has no such thing. Second is their relationship to their fans. They truly love and appreciate their fans even writing more than a couple songs showing that. Next we have their Humanity. Each one of these ladies represents the best of the human race. They are kind and humble to their fans as well as each other. Lastly is their dedication to their craft. They put an incredible amount of attention to detail in every single one of their songs. Every member contributes to the crafting of their amazing music.

We love talking about Band-Maid the most. Kanomi is the lead guitarist and composer of their music. She has a pure heart and is a musical genius. She first writes the piece, usually evoking positive emotions. After writing everyone's parts, It's past to the other band members. Miku, the rhythm guitar/2nd vocalist/founder of the band, she puts words to how the music makes her feel. If it's related to love, then Saiki, the lead singer will assist her or write it herself. Misa, the bassist will add her spin or change it to suit her. The drummer, Akane will usually write multiple rhythms. Then after everyone's input, Kanomi decides the final piece. Of course, it's written in Japanese so there is so much meaning that's lost or doesn't translate well and it will bother a lot of westerners at first, who want to know the lyrics, but one thing is for sure, none of the emotions are lost though their music. Band-Maid are extremely talented and shine when performing live ! I would suggest " Real Existence " Official Live or a newer song "HATE?" Official Live ! These ladies have over 130 wonderful songs that are all great ! I am not sure if anyone else has commented this yet but Band-Maid did a collaboration with The Warning that came out earlier this year. They met at Aftershock festival in 2022 and were huge fans of each other. They decided they had to do something together, and it culminated with the video and doing a joint show in Japan!

Incredibly talented ladies. The lead guitarist (Kanami) is the composer of all the music. . The Rhythm guitarist is backup vocalist and lyricist. The bassist does not sing but is literally one of the greatest bassists on the planet. Saw them live twice last year on their US tour.

Now go back and listen for the bass 😆 the back instrumentalists were to be heard/felt and the front two were to absorb the light me light intially. Later videos they show more of the back trio faces as well though. A lot of the earlier fans got to hear their talents before seeing their faces. KANAMI the lead guitarist is a unique & genius guitar. The young lady get her PRS GUITAR signature model a PRS 24-08, 1st artist in Japan and she is the only one, i know who get 2 signature model with two different brands. Before she had an endorsement with ADDICTONE GUITAR she get a signature model with this brand. She switched to PRS after tasting a guitar from a guy from BAND MAID crew. She ask him to test it. She is really felt in love with PRS at the disappointed of ADDICTONE. She's around 30 years old and had 2 signature model guitar. KANAMI is the melody writer and the rhythm guitare- second vocalist MIKU is the main lyricst of BAND MAID. Now all the ladies of BAND MAID give idea to KANAMI to create their songs.

This wonderful group of ladies came together in a good old garage band kinda way. Miku (red rose & pig tails) was in an idol group with 2 other girls called Lil Cumin, they broke up after @ a year. While Miku worked in a maid cafe, she got the idea of a group of maids in cute outfits that played "cool" music. So, she got the ok from her label to form this band. Her first find was Kanami (lead guitar) from searching on the internet. Kanami then asked her friend Akane, who was a drummer she had worked with before, to join. From there, Akane recruited a bass player, MISA, from the same music school that she attended. Band Maid started out as a 4-piece playing cool songs that they picked out from songs supplied to them by the record company. They played a couple shows with Miku as the main vocalist. She realized her voice wasn't right for the music they were playing, so then a search was on for a new vocalist. They found Saiki (blue rose) through auditions of singers who were already signed by the label, though they didn't tell her about the maid costumes. The original idea was to be a dual vocalist group with Saiki carrying most the load. Then as they were defining their sound, they realized they needed a second guitar. They didn't want to add another member, so Miku decided to go guitar shopping and asked Kanami to teach her how to play it. When you watch their first ever MV for the song "Thrill", if you watch closely, you'll notice she doesn't play much except for maybe a few chords. There were times she wanted to quit the guitar, but with motivation from the other members she continued on. It had to be quite stressful learning the instrument while also touring alot, but our "little pigeon" persevered.... Miku's last name is Kobato which loosely means small pigeon. Fun fact, Miku's guitar playing had advanced to a very respectable level that in March of 2021 she was awarded her own signature model guitar from Zemaitis called the "Flappy Pigeon". It's one of the holy grails in the band's fandom, only 50 were made. As for the band, the song "Alone" was the first song fully written by the Maids and it appears on their 3rd album, Brand New Maid. 99% of the songs since then are 100% Band Maid. Kanami is the main music composer, and Miku is the main lyricist, recently Saiki has penned some of the lyrics.... as Saiki was new to the whole band thing when she first joined. It took her some time to get her footing and to get away from her shyness, she used to have the nickname "Ice Princess", but she has since thawed and is more involved and open to share her thoughts and her unique smile. If you wish to really "know" this band, I suggest watching the 7-part docu-series on each member and formation of the group from Ohrenje. He has done an excellent job on them and is ok with reactors reacting to them. You can watch them on your own or share your experience with us, maybe just give him a shout out and a thank you. 😁 I've watched a few different reactors watch them, they're fun to watch repeatedly. You'll find that the Maids normally don't mind people reacting to their MV's, especially ones off their YT channel (50+), so no water marks or things needed to prevent copyright strikes like Babymetal and others. Most of the time they have CC's. Their MV's are fun, but they excel when they play live.... The song "Domination" was the 1st "live" MV that I watched when I was 1st introduced to them, but now "Hate?" is the new go-to intro live MV for the new fan. I do believe your gonna have alot of fun falling down this "pigeon-hole". 🤘

Since my first listen to them back in November of 2022, they are literally the only band I've listened to (sprinkled with some Babymetal). I saw them with my daughter live last year a month before attending my 1st Babymetal show. We all know how much you love when Momo takes the lead on vocals, you'll get the same vibes when Miku gets her turn to shine. She is also a cool rockstar when she gets little guitar solos and her "Omajinai Time" during MC's are a hoot. You're in for the musical time of your life, strap in! 😁🤘

If hard rock jam packed with catchy hooks and riffs are your jam, Band-Maid is the band for you. Their music veers in different directions from mid-tempo ballad to thrashy prog and everything in between. But it's always Band-Maid's sound. Alone is early, so you might want to get a feel for their more recent work. Something like Forbidden Tale or Hate, two very different songs, but brilliant in their own ways.

Great reaction. Welcome to Band-Maid. You noticed it immediately -- the lead singer is an alto. It's crazy how low her natural speaking voice sounds. IMO, the smooth contrast with her more soprano backup vocalist gives Band-Maid a unique, recognizable choir sound.

The low light levels were a deliberate choice as the band has no ego and the music comes first. The second vocalist is Miku (red flower in her hair) - the rhythm guitarist, founder of the band, and writes most of the lyrics. The bassist is MISA, and if you watch more videos you will see a lot more of her, despite the fact she is extremely shy. The lead vocalist is Saiki (blue flower in her hair) whose voice has grown wonderfully over the years despite the scare and need for vocal polyp surgery. On drums is Akane, the world's happiest drummer as you will see in their live performances, not to mention one of the best drummers performing right now (and the only ones to compare all seem to be her friends). On lead guitar is Kanami who composes the music before handing it off to the others to develop their parts. They are all very good friends, put their music first, and in my opinion are one of the very best if not the best hard rock bands to have existed (and I'm old enough to have seen the likes of Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and many others of that ilk perform live)

As for lyrics, 2 sources, Google or better Reddit. Reddit also has their interviews, translated to English. The maid costumes are to create "the Gap' meaning the difference in what you are seeing, Demure Maids vs what you are hearing, Hard Rock. The "backing singer" is the lyricist and band founder Miku Kobato. Plus being the Spokes Pigeon!!

At this time the songs were written for them. Nowadays Kanami writes most of these songs. It's also notable that Miku formed the band with her being the singer in mind, but the musicians were so good that she got Saiki in to sing. At this point she was miming rhythm guitar because she couldn't play very well yet and just singing backing vocals. Her guitar playing has since got a lot better.

“Alone” was the first song written by Kanami and her mates that was approved by the label back then. Miku was maybe miming the rhythm guitar at their beginnings, but she was definitely able to play rhythm in 2016.

Abi, Band-Maid is an amazing rock band. These girls aren't afraid to experiment - just don't be surprised if you find that their songs are different sound - some so much that you get funk and then others some metal. When I first saw them in the video "Thrill", I almost wrote them off as a gimmick only, no substance - Japanese girls in sexy maid outfits. I am so happy I was so incredibly wrong on that front. What I especially think is a neat little fact about them is that there have not been any changes to their lineup - all original members, 10+ years. Very rare. I think their best live performance songs are Puzzle, and HATE? Hopefully you check those out, either as a reaction video or just on your own.

The backup singer and rhythm guitarist Miku started Band Maid in 2013. She sold a production company the idea that a bunch of gals in maid cafe outfits singing hard rock would be popular. In the course of assembling the band, she realized that her soprano voice wasn't the right sound for the music concept and had Saiki hired to replace her as lead vocalist. Also, another guitar would be better. Instead of hiring a sixth bans member, Miku had Kanami teach her guitar. Over time, the strict maid costumes ( can see in the MV "Thrill") gave way to more individual costumes. Eleven years, 130+ songs (most composed by the guitarist Kanami Tōno; with lyrics typically by Miku Kobato), many accolades and endorsements, yet the best thing about this band is each member is someone who could be a role model. Check out the seven part biographical documentary by Ohrenje to understand what I am trying to convey. Live performances are often preferred, but there are some where the music video is better. The Band Maid fans (maidiacs) will let you know.

Great reaction. Yes, this MV is pretty dark. They have a lot of other ones that are in better lighting. And you will learn to recognize them for sure. I'm sure the rest of the carrier pigeons are taking care of the details, I'll just add, it may not be helpful to try to determine 'what genre' Band-Maid plays. This song is definitely more into that post-grunge/pop-punk vibe. Since this song, they've written almost every song they've ever done themselves, and have complete creative freedom. (The guitarist is the main composer). As a lot of fans will say - they play such a wide range of music, in all different styles, 'Band-Maid is their own genre'. Over 120 songs, and they literally are all very different from each other, even if 'their sound' is familiar! Also, you will see a lot of 'Po!'. Just quick - the rhythm guitarist/background singer Miku, who was the founder of the band, has a 'character' she has identified as, which is a 810 year old pigeon. (Because the kanji of Miku Kobato means 'small pigeon'). And 'Po' is the onomatopoeia for pigeon sound - and she'll end every sentence with "Po', in speaking and her social posts. Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed! "Alone" was the first song credited to the band from start to end. It is the final song on "Brand New Road". It started them down the road :p of complete control of their music, which they fought hard for. The next album "Just Bring It" (JBI) is still one of my favorite filled with mostly self written music. I still think it is one of their best. BAND MAID is: Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) - rhythm guitar, vocals, PR (Band founder, lyricist ... our flappy pigeon, po!) Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) - lead guitar (musical composer extraordinaire - the princess) Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) - drums, percussion (see bananas ... and ramen - the gorilla) Misa - bass guitar (drinks hard liquor and performs without shoes on stage - the barefoot assassin) Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) - lead vocals ("we dance in the palm of her hand" - Domination - The Queen)

I already subbed for the awesome Ren (and Chinchilla), best of British, but since 2020 my heart belongs to these Maid Rockers. They continue to give me a fresh take on all the rock bands I've been into since the 70s...Deep Purple, Queen, Motorhead, Rush, Van Halen and more. You've had excellent suggestions from the Maidiacs...especially Live videos...and I'll suggest a couple of studio MVs; For a superb contemporary rock song there's 'Influencer' (great video location) and a beautiful song, with video tribute to the Queen Bohemian Rhapsody movie, is 'Bubble'. So talented but also goofy, humble, without ego problems...and absolutely uncanny how they put 100% effort into every song. A musician reactor commented that they're so brave, they'll put more ideas into one song than many bands put into a whole album...they don't fear running short of inspiration, mainly because Kanami is a prolific composer and she continues to push every band member to get better and be more involved in the shaping of songs. She wrote the basic song for collaboration with The Warning, as usual...pushing both main singers out of their comfort zone, then song finnessed by both bands and lyrics written by Miku and TW girls...a glorious welcome to Japan and an 8 woman supergroup of friends formed 👌🥳 Enjoy the ride 👍😁

Once they were left "Alone" by their record / management companies to create what they wanted, well, look what they did. Alone's somewhat sad, heavy, yet empowering story (topics Miku's known for writing about), against Kanami's up-tempo, complex, yet rockin' music, is quintessential Band-Maid. BAND-MAID is an important influence and contributor to the music industry with a continuous, growing worldwide fanbase. New sub here. You stand upon the precipice of either falling in love with BandMaid or getting distracted and thinking they are just another band. They're not. They are arguably the greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Hyperbole is very difficult to avoid with BandMaid so screw it. I envy you so much. There is so much wonderful music,, tears and laughter ahead of you if you keep listening. There's no way to describe here why all the things they do combine to create the music. Tons of riffs - enough to make an album for most bands in one song. More hooks than grandad's tackle box. Genre bending writing and performances. In damn near every song a sing along bit for the fans to keep us engaged. Word play between English and Japanese homophones is not uncommon. Deep collaboration between all members to allow everyone to shine. What they have done is harness their egos in service to the song. Akane Hirose and MISA are IMHO the greatest rhythm section currently active in rock music. Truly inventive bass and drumming - not over played but always interesting with unusual choices that make the songs rich. They're not just keeping a beat EVER! Magnificent composition and stellar guitar work from Kanami Tono and equally magnificent vocals from Saiki Atsumi grab us by the ears.Then There's Miku Kobato- no Miku no BandMaid. Founder, chief lyricist, vocal harmonies sung while playing rhythm guitar she is the backbone of this group. She's the lead singer who fired herself so that the lead singer would have a more rock and roll voice. She's the singer who learned to play guitar while in the band. A paid professional learning her instrument on the fly. Now she has her own signature model of Zematis electric guitar. She willed BandMaid into existence. I haven't even begun to say all I could. Come and see for yourself!

It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Can't remember what interview I read with them about it, but A lot of their earlier videos were on the darker side, with bright flashes that still hid features. It was done on purpose because they wanted people to concentrate more on the music than the looks. You should absolutely check out some of their live stuff. I got to see them in 2022, and I think they are better live than recorded.

Sorry I got in a bit late for this reaction. Keep giving them a go ... cos each one gets better an better. All accomplished musicians even tho the lead Guitarist (Kanami) taught the rythym guitarist (Miku) how to play soon after they formed. Everyone's favorite is "Hate" live and I must say, it's one of the best live performances (from any band) I have ever seen. But PLEASE, when you do it (an I'm sure you will haha), Kanami and Misa (the Bassist) steal the show, BUT, keep an ear out for Akane on the sticks - from start to finish she slays the skins. They really shine when playing live as I'm sure you will find out. They have some fantastic instrumentals as well - "Onset" live and "From Now On" MV, just to name a couple an if your after a rock ballad, they can help you out there too with "Daydreaming" with a guitar solo that will leave you breathless. But honestly, pick what you like - they do it all and they do it very, very well - no gimmicks here ... or ego's. They all have their chance to shine an it's in nearly every song. Nice on point comments. You are one of the few first time reactors to notice the great vocals of Band Maid. Most just get caught up in the music. I certainly was guilty of that and took a while to value their vocals. Lead vocal, Saiki is an alto, and has more power than Miku, 2nd vocal and 2nd guitar. But Miku has a wider range. I consider the 2 together to be one of the multiple strengths of Band Maid. A great recent example of their vocals is Corallium, live at Eggman .
