Great video showing why you shouldn't let a couple of knuckleheads mess with a high dollar exhaust.

also what size rivets did you use?
@thomasfaulkner26974 жыл бұрын
Did mine in 15 minutes. Drill the center of the rivet out ,and then use a left hand drill bit and drill the rest of the rivet out. Hold on to the baffle with vice grips, put a screwdriver through the grips and hit the exhaust with a plastic head hammer.

thomas faulkner where were you when we needed you. To be fair this sounds pretty similar to what Jon was telling me. He just rocked up and I said I had all the tools he’d need. So really he was working with his hands tied behind his back.
@thomasfaulkner26974 жыл бұрын
He did a good job with the tools he had. Forgot to say I also heated the outlet on the exhaust with a blowlamp for about 15 seconds. With the expansion the baffle just popped out. Keep the videos coming. One of the best sites on You Tube.

I had length of 8 mm threaded stud. Put one 8mm nut on one end and put it into the DB killer. The other end I slid a spark plug socket over the stud and a large washer and another 8mm nut after. Then i simply slid the socket up and down forcibly and drifted it out ! Simples.

@@thomasfaulkner2697 Well, I wish mine would do just that. I've been at it like King Kong for over an hour and no blowtorch makes this thing move ... Gosh, that's tiiiight fit.
@bsebesty4 жыл бұрын
OK. Done. Took me about 4 hours ... The trick was to get an M10 threaded rod of 0.5m long, ran double nuts on it on both end, one end getting two large washers. Got one end with no washers inside, hooked it up at the end of the battle and hammered on the old to pull it out. Still wasn't easy, but got it done. :-) Thanks for the inspiration, Steve! As always! Cheers!

I done the same to the Akrapovic on my 17 KTM Super Adventure T, and to avoid having to drill each time to take out the Carbon end piece to refit the baffles, I used lock wire through the holes on the pipe end through the baffles, it is holding great with no issues

More stealthy if you had cut down the baffles and reinstall them. In this way there would be no visible evidence of the modification (hence no tickets).

Hello, I've got the same rally GSA in white and blue as you whith the whole Akrapovich exhaust line and the K&N air filter, and it sounds grrreat! I kept the DB killers in place and believe me when the motor is in full load it is very, very noisy, the aluminium panniers making some kind of drum effect. If you go out for a few hundreds km ride using the maximum tork of the bike you need some earplugs.

When you remove the baffles, I read it spoils the fueling and the pipes and can run too hot, causing the bike to eventually run unevenly? Does your exhaust 'expert' have a view on it?
@dimosk73893 жыл бұрын
i think it depends on the bike and possible other mods you might have. i got a Wings exhaust on my 1290, which comes with 2 db killers (big and small). according to them, if the bike is stock, you can use it anyway you like, with or without a db killer. the factory maps can compensate. but if you even have a KN panel filter, they suggest a remap (or something like a PCV)

@Starnzee3 жыл бұрын
Yes, very expensive crap IMO and I can say this because I the same Akra. They'll never get any more of my money. Any company that makes it this intensive and hard to remove their baffles doesn't deserve anyone's hard earned money. None of the other brands that make a can for my bike do this, Arrow, Wings, Leo Vince, SC Projects all have rubber bungs and removable screws and baffles that just slip in and out easily. But not so Akrapovic....
@dimosk73893 жыл бұрын
@@Starnzee agree. I have wings on my bike. Almost half the price, amazing quality and much better sound
@liberty1933 жыл бұрын
I think it’s that way because of government regulations. Akro are usually sold as factory accessories which could prevent them from having removable baffles. (My USA r1200gs runs full akro exhaust no cat/ baffles)
@dimosk73893 жыл бұрын
@@liberty193 100% correct. if they didnt weld the db killers, they wouldnt be able to sell them as OEM with a new bike, or get certifications on the side of the exhaust that makes you legal.
@Pyrrho_3 жыл бұрын
@@dimosk7389 Exactly this. There are sound requirements for manufacturers that stipulate how loud their bikes can get with normal use and maintenance. Allowing for (easily) owner-removable baffles would defeat that and perhaps even require they meet sound limits with the baffles removed. BMW contracts w/Akrapovič to make BMW-branded exhausts to be sold with the bike that need to be modification-restricted (w/BMW paying for development & testing), and Akrapovič gets to sell a non-BMW-branded version using the same design. I suspect if Akra wanted a differently designed baffle removal system on the non-BMW-branded exhaust they'd have to design a whole new exhaust, so to save costs they just did this.

You might find the heat from the exhaust will, after a couple of long journeys, delaminate the right hand edge of the number plate.
@ABIKETHING4 жыл бұрын
Les Bonney good call! So maybe some heat reflecting tape would be a good idea?
@lpbonney4 жыл бұрын
@@ABIKETHING Worth trying. The challenge is protecting the edge where the laminate layers are exposed and dealing with the water and crud the wheel throws at it. In my view the ideal solution is a metal (aluminium) backing plate, particularly if it is in effect a tray in which the number plate sits. You can get them for German plates but I have not found such a thing for UK plates.
@trophyian4 жыл бұрын
This is exact what happens to the number plate on my Tiger 1200 with an Akrapovic installed! I wondered why the right hand edge was deforming. Solution - I fitted a slightly narrower replacement plate !!
@lpbonney4 жыл бұрын
Ian Rodie I made a aluminium tray for the number plate and used a liquid gasket paste between the plate and the tray for added heat protection. Works well. No problems since I did this.
