Great. now I have to go to Five Below! LOL. It is so exciting just to see what the next fabric looks like. Thanks so much for doing this. 🩷🩷🩷

That was fun. Yours was completely different than mine. I had no floral or sequins. Mostly plain colors in mine. I loved using the sewn together pieces in grungy journals as ruffles on the page edges.

Same here. I didn't realize there was so much fabric bunched up in each row. The look is deceiving. xx

Hi Lynn! I'm the one who suggested taking one of these apart. Thank you so much for posting this video! I knew you would love it. Along with scissors, I used a rectangular letter opener too. That might help speed up the process for you. There are KZbin videos on how these are made. I cannot wait to see what you make! Much love! ❤

Yes!! Thank you so much!! So fun. And there are other comments that support Five Below having good rugs for this. ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Lynn, I'm just drooling over the fabric you found in the rug. I am taking apart one that is mostly light pink but none of the fabrics are printed like yours. I can see you using that fringy yarn in a journal page or outside dangles. Maybe the thread could be harvested too, wound on a spool and used to stitch your journal pages into the book. I hear your excitement as ideas surface. What a treasure!!!❤ if you ever want to sell any in a scrap bag let me know, please.😊❤😊

Im so glad you posted this Lynn. It’s a really neat idea. I had never heard or seen anyone else do it before. It’s also a great way to build up your fabric scrap collection without spend too much. I’ll have to keep my eye out for one next time I go shopping.

I really enjoyed using the rug like that. I hear there is a difference in rugs. Mine came from Five Below. You may be able to tell just by looking at them, but you want one with the silkier fabrics vs t-shirt fabric. ❤️❤️❤️

I have a ton of fabric from the one I took apart months ago. I’ve been making tassels and I used some for journal toppers when I did the DT project in December. I had gotten two rugs but I have so much fabric still from the first one that I haven’t undone the second one lol , I had a blast taking it apart. Can’t wait to see what you come up with using this. 😊

@@abitofbirdsong there were no fancy fabrics in my rug, but the colors are vibrant jewel tones. I’m thinking of a slow stitched journal cover. Thanks for your inspiration.❤️❤️

Lynn, it was fascinating to watch you unravel this rug, seeing the fabrics as they were revealed. You probably have figured this out by now, but those rugs are woven on a loom. The strings are the warp, and the fabrics are woven through it. A piece on the loom called a heddle raises and lowers the half of the threads alternately. That allows every other thread to go over the fabric on one throw of the shuttle, and under the fabric on the next one. Half are going up and half down, then they switch when the position of the heddle is changed. The warp threads hold the fabric in place so there's no need to sew the strips together. The weaver just overlaps them a bit when adding a new fabric. (I hope that made sense and wasn't too much information. I'm sure there are videos showing this process.) I think it would be so fun to take a rug like yours apart and find the beautiful fabrics like you found. I didn't know this was a thing, but now I want to try it. ;-) Like I need more fabric...but I don't have fabric like that!! Can't wait to see what your project is using the fabrics. Thanks for sharing this fun. (Sorry for the long comment.)

@@abitofbirdsong You’re welcome, Lynn. I do some weaving on a rigid heddle loom (but not in a long time). It was really interesting to me to see the deconstructed of your rug. Still think I need to get one. 😏 Have a great day.

Betty, I bet they can really vary. Several people here have said to get them from Five Below. I have some I bought at Roses a while back and they seem to have a lot of gold in them, but I have not taken one of them apart yet. xx

Never thought of taking one of these rugs apart! Looks like you got a good one…made in India? Patterns on fabric remind me of that. Too bad the fabric strips are so narrow! Anxious to see what you make and what other fabrics you uncover. I’m tempted To go to $5 store now.

OMG! I bought this rug from 5 Below about a year ago, and it didn’t work where I put it. Currently it’s sitting turned inside out folded up in our hallway. Our cat lays on it from time to time. Guess I’d better look at it more closely :)

I've almost bought these a number of times but the fabric seemed to be polyester when I was hoping for sari silk. Can you tell what kind of fabric it is?
@abitofbirdsong
@abitofbirdsong 10 ай бұрын
This fabric seems silky, but I am not sure I would qualify it as sari silk. This rug came from Five Below. I read here in the comments that rugs from other stores ended up with just polyester and things that were not that great. This is the first one I have ever tried. ❤️❤️❤️
