Logic has some midi options you might have missed that allow for controlled randomness on a variety of parameters. With the notes of your choice highlighted in the piano roll, press CMD+9 to access the midi transform window. Live 11 definitely still takes the cake in that category, but you’d be surprised how robust that feature actually is in Logic. It’s worth checking out if you haven’t used it before.

One thing that’s great in Logic is that everything can be pulled to be its own window (like the Mixer or the Piano Roll) which is really great if using multiple screens. In Ableton all “windows” are always glued together

By default this is an unfair comparison. You’re comparing $700 software to a $200 one, which comes with FREE single version updates. Bought Logic X back in 2013 and I’m still getting updates to this day. Even the ‘mid tier’ version of Ableton with its incomplete set of tools is STILL more expensive than Logic. The yearly Ableton updates costs the same cost of Logic itself. So ridiculous.

Logic is incredibly cheap. The reason for that is you have to buy Apple hardware to use it. Back in the days, Logic 8 and 9 were $500, which was still way cheaper that its competitors. However, apple computers are not cheap…

@NoizeLondon11 ай бұрын

I agree with you but Logic has MusicTechHelpGuy. He has the single BEST YT channel on music production in Logic by far. Even if you don't use Logic there are a lot of cool things that you can learn from his videos and use in other DAWs or even plugins. A lot of people who do content videos or how-to guides may be experts at what they do (although a lot of them clearly aren't), but with MusicTechHelpGuy not only do you have someone who actually knows how to teach and is a college-level educator, but also provides entire courses and FOR FREE, right here on YT. I spent years in both Ableton and Logic, and I have now been in just Logic for over 5 years. I have kept updating Ableton until v11 but now that Rewire is gone I will not be updating or going back to Ableton. And most of that is due to MusicTechHelpGuy.

@@teemad Fair enough. I wasn't actually talking about how-to/tutorials about the DAW itself and how to do things in it. I meant strictly production. Something like this for example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2KVd4uro9-Kl7c That guy doesn't teach you how to do Ableton related stuff. The focus is on how to make "that". Whatever that happens to be. So yeah you can apply that to Logic sure but there will be a little extra work required to translate that. I think that was the crux of my point. Do you want to add that bit of extra work to your day? Or would you rather just follow along in the beginning?

One of the craziest features about logic that doesn't get enough attention imo. The quick sampler: when you add a pitched percussion sample to quick sampler in the normal mode. Then you right click the waveform. Click retune. Now you have the pitch of your perc sample. for melodic percussion of any kind this is incredible. Even if you use ableton I highly recommend having a few mornings where you set 30-60 minutes aside with the coffee and slowly label your perc samples with their root pitch. for me personally it gets it right 19/20 times. As someone who owns saturn and spectra shout out to roar its incredible and takes the crown. The modulation is super easy in roar and its super easy to just turn one of the boxes with a number and just double click to reset it if you dont like your change. As someone whos had 12 beta since a few days after it was announced I'm personally sticking with logic pro which actually sucks bc i live in a city where everyone uses ableton. I will say with the changes to 12 there is only 1 thing keeping me from switching. It sounds so dumb. but when you force close a plugin with escape or closing it out you have to press the little wrench in ableton to open it back up. also the command in 12 for the mixer is option+command+m for the mixer if i understood your question.

I've used Studio One, Reaper, Ableton Live and Garageband (which is like a cut-down version of Logic) I can definitely see the advantages of using Ableton Live as a production tool and for arrangements. The session view in Live makes it really easy to record sections and move them around, and plus the sound design and sample library and range of instruments, and integration with controllers makes it really easy to work with for production. I also love the warp functionality in Live, and how it works with clips, makes it easy to move audio around, fix pitch and timing issues, and consolidate a final track. For mixing and (simple) mastering, I would rather bounce down my stems from Live and then use something like Reaper (I'm also looking at Logic for this step) - Especially if you're trying to co-ordinate a lot of different stems and master a lot of different versions or rough mixes, the interfaces and functionality in Reaper and Logic fit this workflow nicely.

There’s no rules to which is better. I’ve used ableton, logic, protools, cubase, fl studio etc. the only 2 things it comes down to is this. Can you make the music you like ie are all the tools laid out how you like them or do you need to do 10 steps to do one thing that another daw does in 2 steps? And the last is can you finish your song in it ie mixing / mastering? Music production needs to be looked at like a trade. You need many tools to build a house. You can’t just build and finish it with a hammer. For me personally my go to for editing, mixing and recording vocals is protools. Hands down can’t be beat. For producing protools is shit. 😂. For a long time I used logic however I’ve now switched to ableton and it’s only due to it having niche tools that logic needs 14 step workarounds to do like bass glides etc. The BIGGEST one though is this. I work in 24bit /48khz. Most samples are in 44.1khz. So logic DUPLICATES the sample within your sample folder as it creates a new version but at 48khz. 🤯 so now your sample library’s are doubling and getting messy. Ableton has a feature that you can turn this off in the settings so it doesn’t do it. It stores it within the session and not the original sample folder. Logic is a nice all in one daw and you can easily start and finish projects within it but silly things like not being able to move AUX tracks within the mix window is just silly. If I’m being honest though there’s another daw that isn’t getting any love and it’s Luna. Luna has the protools experience, like for like key commands and just has an amazing warm sound to it. But the save function is completely bonkers. There’s no save as. It’s called revisions if I remember correctly and it’s awful. Should they change it to save as….. I could be tempted 😂

I am a logic users for 2 years now, and a beginner producer. I'm thinking of switch to Live essentially because of the midi features (because I think I perform bad at my keyboard) and the samples 'find similar'. On logic currently, for those 2 features, I find logic to be basic but functional midi featured, and browsing from the builtin finder is a hassle : samples often miss to play when clicking twice on them, and almost all the time with a tiny little annoying lag after being selected (I have a mac mini m1 1to 16go). Also, in the builtin finder, you don't have a 'go to upper folder' but a 'back' button, which I don't dig :D. I have to agree also with one the viewer here : I find logic to be quite "prettier" and usable (shortcuts, overall layout) than Live. That the thing keeping me on Logic. For mixing, Logic is also very nice. I love the overall layout when color coding and grouping my tracks, having colored markers, and as said Fabio, you feel like a true music engineer before their good looking mixing console. And you can see the plugin on each tracks easily, manage sends quite easily, automate easily enough too. Thanks for the video. the sample browser in logic is a mess. by far the worst compared to other daws in the market. Apple fix this pls!

Ableton or Bitwig. I bounce back and forth But the new 12 is fkn fire 🔥 No need to go into logic for mixdown. They are all 32bit float

"The majority of producers are working from a laptop" ... I highly doubt this. I'd think most producers have kind of a studio with synths, recording gear, mixer etc. so a powerful computer and one or more big monitors make much more sense.

I think that would be nice... but even the pros are doing everything in the box these days

Ableton is superior in almost everything, but Logic is more intuitive and has banger legacy samples and plugins ( drums, guitars, horns) also the aesthetic of Logic is really nice to me.

Hello everyone, First of all, I want to point out that Logic Pro has been treated unfairly in this comparison video. Such a biased approach is neither objective nor professional. The lack of neutrality in this evaluation is quite evident. Additionally, it’s important to mention that Logic Pro costs around $220 and offers lifetime updates without charging a single cent-this is a significant advantage that should not be overlooked. As a friendly suggestion, I recommend taking a more balanced and thoughtful approach in your future evaluations. Keep in mind that there are people in the comments section who may have more expertise in music production than you-this is something worth considering. Wishing you all the best and good luck!

I'm amazed by how defensive people get when talking about the mixer in Ableton. Let's face it, the mixer view in Ableton is an utter joke. You see at most 10-ish channels at the same time, rendered as a ridiculous awkward lumps of rectangles. How can you do any fine mixing when struggling to find your tracks to make adjustments? It's such a bummer as otherwise Ableton could be the best DAW. Even FL Studio has a fantastic standar mixer view with small crisp channel strip, logical sends and ability to actually let you do the mixing without getting into the way.

Yes.... well DAW wars are a thing haha. Ableton is a fantastic creative tool, it doesn't have the slick interface needed for mixing but it's still great.

Ableton take a great jump with 12. But I don't like it. I don't like the look n feel. I don't like the ignorance of Ableton in some cases where users wait year by year. Apple has a natural ignorance - I guess it is part of apple philosophy (and im a Apple User btw.) Piano roll in Ableton and the midi features are awesome and useful. The similar finder is great too... Sounddesign ... both far behind Bitwig - and that's the reason why I go with Bitwig...
@watchboombox7 ай бұрын
Interesting... tell us more about bitwig please and what makes it so good
@colognialist19647 ай бұрын
Bitwig is based on a fundamental modulation base. All ican be modulate incl. 3rd Party instruments by a bunch of modulators. Not only LFO‘s. Randomizers, stepModulators, segments and you can use the output of tracks as modulation too. And Bitwig has the „Grid“. Three types of grid allows you to create sound in way to create customized synths from scratch. In the noteGrid you creates notes or infects incoming notes and the fxGrid lets you create fx in a freely way with tons of modulations and logical behaviors. You can automate modulations, you can modulate automations and of course you can modulate modulations … Just take a Quick Look to „Polarity“ great YT Have a nice day.
