Great video, I especially like how you organize the stems. This is very helpful thanks ! One thing I added so I wouldn't lose the FX on my sends was to route their audio back into the stem channel I was bouncing. So for example: if I'm doing synths, I'll change the audio output on my returns to "Synth" and then bounce that stem track individually. It's a little more work but that way your tracks aren't dry. **make sure you solo the stem tracks before you export that way you don't get the fx for all the other channels mixed in**

Okay can you explain this a little more? i understand the concept im just fuckin up the execution. I realized the effects don't stay with the stems in a new set. (specifically sidechain and compressors and i feel like reconfiguring each one individually will take too much time or maybe im just lazy)

You do however sometimes use a vocal and a lead at the same time, you would use sidechain compression to enable that, example: "Noisecontrollers - Down Down" (second climax)

Yup! I add a 9th channel for situations like this. but it's definitely less common.

Great video - super helpful! I have Ableton Live Lite though, which only allows for a maximum of 8 tracks in total, so I wouldn't be able to create as many tracks as you have... Hopefully I can still make it work. Thanks for sharing Julian!

Big Question! What if I want to play mastered tracks and stems from my mixdowns sound bad along side master versions of other tracks of mine? This is the one reason I have not yet given this stem method a go yet... Thanks for your quality videos btw. Very inspiring.
@JulianGrayMedia
@JulianGrayMedia 6 жыл бұрын
You must be using a lot of mastering effects then. Perhaps use your mastering chain in live with the unmastered stems when you play.
@maxforster1850

I mean what if you just make a group with all of your hubs and put your master effects on it? that should work !!

If there is a lot of automation in your track will that mess with your live set?? If you want to loop a section I’m realizing the automation would become a problem.

How did you get your talking head to overlay against the screen recording? It's very smooth compared to a separate window. Very nicely done!

this is definitely a stupid question, idk how to word this right so nothing's coming up online. ok so what am i doing wrong if within the output dropdown the bus i want to send it to doesn't show up? on the bus the in/out/auto boxes are greyed out. i got some to work, but it just seems like specific ones are grey. all the other settings are the same for all the buses.

Are those 8 tracks you made as KICK CLAP etc.. return tracks?
@resofactor
@resofactor 5 жыл бұрын
Those 8 Channels, are those going to Send/Return Channels, or their own sub-buss routing via the Track Output of those Channels?

so whats your mastering process, are these stems raw or how does that work
@JulianGrayMedia
@JulianGrayMedia 6 жыл бұрын
raw stems, I run them through a basic mastering chain live
@nickieisensee
@nickieisensee 6 жыл бұрын
So you need to have kind of a good mix before rendering the 8 tracks ... and better do not have a mastering chain on your project while preparing the Stems ... easy to fool yourself ... Stems are not mastered

Means I want to have different sounds in the original clip and on the copied one. please help
@JulianGrayMedia
@JulianGrayMedia 6 жыл бұрын
you have to use another channel for it.

Thank you for your answer . Yes I tried that starting new MIDI column past in it, but still its the same when I change the copied clip it changes the original as well.
