I've seen a lot of Gregor vids, but NEVER have I heard him so excited as when he figured out the ARA, drag and drop from Ableton to Studio One. Pretty sure he tried it outta sheer frustration, and, WOW, totally worth the try. I got a little excited myself. Almost as excited as when I first did an 'Import Audio Data' from an older song to a newer one and everything I needed on the previous tracks dropped precisely where (and when) I needed. I haven't used ProTools since their introductory 8-channel freebie years ago. I did Reason for about five years. And I poked around in in Ableton, FL, Cubase, Reaper and a couple of others. It's gonna take something literally earth shattering to move me away from the Presonus product. Don't lemme down guys! I've eaten loads of words and...they don't taste so good.

For those wondering - if you come across a note like that (at 3:50) then rather slice it into 2 notes. It's a very quick slide and that's why just shifting it up won't work. Make the slide a separate note and then adjust the actual note to the correct pitch. That will sound much more natural. Hope that helps someone :)

this is coming SO CLUTCH right now! dear god! i don't really use Ableton for mixing but sometimes when i produce the beat for the client, it's easier to keep it all in the ableton session to continue working on the produciton, but damn vocals were always a nightmare if i needed to use Melodyne! this solves sooooo many issues! crazy how you even figured htis out!

I moved from cakewalk to Studio One. Loved it but have since gone fully Ableton Live. I love it but working on vocals for the first time now and I’m hating Live’s flow to the point of not bothering with melodyne anymore (despite being an average singer) but then I saw this and it’s brilliant! Means I’ve not wasted money on the Studio One licence either. If this is all I use it for it makes it worth it. Thank you!!!!

Another simpler way to do this just incase if you dont have or own studio one will be to Transfer the entire vocals completely to melodyne on ableton. Just once. And then finish with the pitch correction. And after that freeze the track and then flatten the track. And there you go. You have a pitch corrected track with melodyne corrections written to the audio file itself that can be edited, trimmed or you could do whatever you want.

tried that way and it sucks. If I have 30 audio clips on a track in Ableton I am not sure what to do after editing in Melodyne. there is no COMMIT or SAVE button or anything like that. After I edit1st clip I need to go and edit the 2nd and unsure what's the workflow ? Draggin and dropping from Abe to S1 is limited to unedited clips. Once you consolidate the clip it is not working anymore (unless there is something I am missing here...)

Ok I just tried to use this trick but I don't see the option to turn off "rewire" inside of Studio One?! I was able to drag an audio clip from Ableton into Studio One and then I used Melodyne. I couldn't drag the tuned vocal back into Ableton. Any help/advice would be appreciated :) (I've got Studio One 6 with monthly Presonus Sphere subscription.)

TL;DW: use a different DAW for vocal processing. You also can set Melodyne as your external sampler in Ableton, and in the "Sample" pane on the audio clip, you can click "edit", it'll load melodyne as a stand alone plugin. You can edit the vocals there and click on replace audio in Melodyne, and it'll automatically replace the clip in Ableton. Neither of these solutions are hardly ideal though.

TRied to follow this and there is no REWIRE option in the settings :-( what am I missing ? There seems to be a big problem as well with importing files. When I have a track in Ableton with non-edited clip the copying it into S1 works, but the moment a cut a piece of that clip and Consolidate it I can no longer copy it. I get an error message "This file is not supported). This basically destroys big part of your idea. I wish there is some kind of solution this this. BTW - Melodyne interface is really, really bad.... :-(

Great tip. The round-tripping is defiantly bearable with drag and drop. Studio One pro is my go-to DAW (my background is with Ableton), but for those who don’t want to spend hundreds on vocal alignment, check out Vocal Sync in Cakewalk by Band Labs. CBL is free - no strings attached. It may even have ara support. I need to test. Presonus should really make vocalign a LOT cheaper than it is or just bundle it with the Pro version of S1.

@@mclevit around a year ago presonus was selling it on their site for something line US$280. Now it’s $197AUD reduced to $137AUD on a sale. If it was maybe US$30 I’d buy it just to save round-tripping to cakewalk. But I don’t use this feature very often so it’s not really worth more than that to me. Everyone’s situation is different I guess. Cakewalk has been making a lot of improvements this year as has S1. Good to see this free tool give the heavy hitters a run for their money. I recommend it for n00bs. If studio one artist didn’t cripple 3rd party plugin support, I’d recommend that instead.

Thanks for the video- im trying to find how to use Studio One as a monitoring software and use ableton Live as my main daw, the sound keeps cutting when i open the two and rewire doesnt come up in the instrument list in S1 when Ableton is open....is there a way to do this??? I'm new to studio one. Why is it that when I render into the browser it boosts my audio's gain and clips heavy? Dragging it back into ableton, the final audio is very clearly clipping everywhere.

when you close studio one it asks if you want to keep any created files…simply select no and the only files will be in ableton 💪

Absolutely HUGE. Also, Ableton doesn't any facility to do takes and comping either, so you can record takes and comp with Studio One, then transfer the comp to Ableton. But does it have to be Ableton? What if I want to use Bitwig instead of Ableton?

Hi deanc2000, that's absolutely right! You can use the exact same technique to, essentially, add comping to your Ableton Live setup! :) So far, I wasn't able to drag and drop files like I'm showing here between other DAWs...but it's possible that it would work with Bitwig also. Gregor, you could just use a resampling function in Ableton, right after using Melodyne.

That resampling always has to happen in real-time; and if you want to make a change afterwards, you have to resample again. The workflow I’m presenting here mitigates that. -GBY

Schade, scheint wohl nur auf OSX zu funktionieren. Studio One sagt beim Drag'n'Drop das es dieses Dateiformat nicht unterstützt. Wenn die Datei konsolidiert wird und im Projektordner dann gespeichert ist, erst dann klappt der Transfer. Dazu kommt dann noch das dann bei der Bearbeitung in Studio lauter Crackles im Hintergrund sind .. aber das hängt damit zusammen das beide DAWs versuchen auf das Interface ansteuern zu wollen, und das bei Windows ja generell komplizierter ist als bei CoreAudio.

Hi James, thanks so much for your kind words! Please ensure that you didn't hide any of your plugins...you can double check that by heading to the "Home" Tab of Studio One's Browser. From there,. click "Plugin Manager" -> "Vendor -> PreSonus" -> "Show All". The Tuner plugin should show up in your Effects list now. Alternatively, you can also find a really powerful tuner nested inside of the brand new Ampire plugin. Hope this helps! -GBY

stopped to think....that would be a 'first time' experience only.......once ti's set to off then the 'state of play' remains as it is .....and you don't get asked again unless you want to engage rewire......and it's a game changer working in ableton adn using melodyne...which is 'painfully slow' have to 'render the file into memory'....great tip and fun to do ......both great software packages...delight to have both

There is a MUCH MUCH MUCH easier more efficient way of Melodyning in Ableton. Set Melodyne editor as your main editor. Click on the audio, hit the edit button. BOOM. Then hit control+command+S to render. Discard the changes, and it's done. Lightning quick.

Two things that could make Studio One more interesting: 1 To be able to use the computer keyboard as a controller you have to select the Keyboard and it is floating on the screen, and this is very bad. Why not create a Button on the Interface like Ableton Live and FL Studio, this makes everything much more practical. 2 Why don't you create a Slice Plugin to be able to work with Sample, a Slicer Plugin has a range of possibilities.

Even the world's greatest vocalists do not hit every single note clean right in the middle every time. As Gregor showed, he only made some minor corrections to an already overall good performance. Additionally, a little piece of trivia - Paul McCartney, back in the Beatles days, regularly sings a hair sharp. But back in those "good old days", you could not fix it. Now..... you can.

You’ll couldn’t get the older generation from Pro Tools and came up with the ideal of going after the younger demographic. You guys were heading on the right track and then you’ll got stuck in between and start digging a hole that will ultimately be considered the Rabit Hole. Also, beware of Luna!!!
