It wasn’t what it was now I lived in the LES and grew up with some of the best but I have to give a huge bro hug to you Mark. i vividly remember seeing an ad of you olling something big in a ditch when you rode for vision and when Blind came out It was pure Magic to me. I wanted to skate street , vert anything and the artistic and musical part just fit the lock that lived within side me and opened up a door to let me be free . Thanks Gonzo. I guess. A lot of honks and sloppy tricks. Where is the skill and style. I have seen shop videos in 1991 with better lines. Gonz was dope. The last line was cool I guess.
@yaboi.hitmaizer2 жыл бұрын
@@robthegod1 there's beauty within everyones style you just got to mature a bit to be able to appreciate it. When I started skating ealy 00's all I cared for was Zero and every other style was non appealing to me, now a days I find beauty on everyones style. Skateboarding is rad, it's not one dimensional, techy and steezy all the time and thats lovely
@robthegod12 жыл бұрын
@@yaboi.hitmaizer I feel your thirst for inclusion has blinded you. Bonks and sloppy style has been done. It’s not new. Check 89 -91. I don’t like to relive bad shit. Folks have an issue being objective and honest. 95% of the video was sloppy and the skill set was low. If folks can admit skill and style don’t matter and people have reverted back to sloppy 1989 shit I’ll be quiet
@yaboi.hitmaizer2 жыл бұрын
@@robthegod1 All I said is you can find good in that. Not everything needs to be done perfectly steezy and technical, and if you are exclusively into that, there's videos for you too man. You can't take away people's right to appreciate sloppy styles or low skill level, maybe some older skaters relate more to it. there's a million reasons to enjoy this video, and if you don't I'm sure you'll find more suitable for you content out there 🙏
@robthegod12 жыл бұрын
@@yaboi.hitmaizer I am a older skater. I was outside as they say in 1990 and 91 when there a lot of sloppy shit going on. We moved past that. It’s just crazy to me that such low skill levels are being promoted when so many actual good skaters can’t even get free grip. It’s flat out blasphemy. Sloppy bonks and flappy noseslide slides have their place in homie videos and back in 91. If you can’t see my point go watch any shop video from the past 30 years and see all the skilled skaters with great style who got 10 buck of a deck a shirt. Celebrating shit slop again is blasphemy period.

You see, this is the thing--and, please, somebody tell me if I'm wrong. The thing about Gonz is just being around him changes you: as a person, as a skater, whatever. These kids are even doing tricks that Gonz would do. I don't know them, so maybe I'm wrong, but I would bet they weren't skating like this before linking up with Gonz. Gonz is infectious. No disrespect, but it's the reason so many of us would rather tune into a two-and-a-half minute video of Gonz riding a board shaped like the f***ing Batmobile (probably all of us wanting to buy one of those horribly unskatable things), bailing a frontside slappy to no-comply out--meanwhile, watching happily, on the edge of our seats, waiting for the make we know is coming at the end. We'd rather do that than watch most of the current top pros' Instagram uploads. We secretly believe that watching a Gonz video--listening to everything he says, trying with all our might to decipher his Gonz-wisdom--will somehow let some of the Gonz-dust rub off on us and that it'll make us better skaters/people for it (like it did for these kids). Or, maybe it's just me.
