I did 5 years in the Marine Corps and in that time, I learned to be thankful that while I wasn’t home with my family for thanksgiving, I was thankful I had a family that was there for me to go back to. You don’t need me to tell you that your family seems to be a great group of people, and I hope your parents have a great cruise with you in a couple weeks.

Ahhhhh, I know that show life during the holidays. Theatre runs the same way, holidays extra shows in addition to normal matinees scheduled but holiday crowds can have such a special energy too. Happy belated Thanksgiving holiday.

When I worked on ships being onboard for Thanksgiving was harder for me than Christmas because being one of the few Americans onboard as crew felt isolating on an American only holiday. The first year they had a Thanksgiving meal in the mess but the 2nd year they didn’t. I walked into the mess expecting to at least have some traditional Thanksgiving foods, and it was the same old stuff. I went back to my cabin and drank a Diet Coke and ate a bag of chips for dinner and cried. Every other holiday was fun even though it was hard to be away from family.

I sailed during Thanksgiving week on Mariner of the Seas in 2011 and Freedom of the Seas in 2016. Both times the main dining room offered a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. The Royal Promenade was decorated, but all Thanksgiving decor was gone by Friday morning in preparation for the Christmas decorations. The vlogs when your parents come visit you onboard are my favorites!

Sweet Jordan! You are always so positive and a light for us all! As a Grandmother I always try and be there for my sweet Grandbabies and I try and make our days together fun and enjoyable.
